WWE Monday Night Raw Review: 24/03

John Cena Starts the Show, Jey Uso and ? VS A-Town Down Under

Monday Night Raw kicked off this week the same way it did last week as John Cena came out to a chorus of boos as the 16-time World Champion called out the fans for enjoying seeing a little kid get heartbroken! Cena then talked about how he knows what the fans hate, and that’s why he’s going to use that to ruin Wrestling! John said he’s going to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania and then leave with it, meaning whichever Champion comes next will be holding a toy belt! This brought out Cody Rhodes who was clearly livid at this, saying this was a far worse move than anything that happened at the Elimination Chamber, but Cena didn’t care so he just left! I thought John Cena was really good here, especially his line about the kid from last week!

Jey Uso was out next for a Tag Team match against A-Town Down Under, and his mystery partner was revealed to be none other than Jimmy Uso! To be honest, that was a little disappointing, and you could sense that with the crowd, too! Anyway, the match itself was fine, both The Usos and A-Town Down Under are good Tag Teams, and Jimmy and Jey were simply too good for Theory and Waller as they got the win following a 1D! After the match, Gunther arrived and chucked Jimmy out of the ring as he started to brawl with Jey, and interestingly, this year’s Men’s Royal Rumble Winner slipped whilst trying to go for a Spear, allowing The Ring General to drop him! All of a sudden, WWE seems to be going down the path of Jey Uso making mistakes, and that’s a very odd one!

Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Lyra Valkyria VS Raquel Rodriguez, Adam Pearce Gets Interrupted, Dragon Lee VS El Grande Americano, CM Punk Speaks

After Liv Morgan convinced Dominik Mysterio to go and talk to Penta despite Finn Balor’s objections, we got an amazing video package showcasing the star name that is “El Grande Americano”! This annoyed The LWO who watched on as a “sick” Chad Gable walked in with a doctor’s note, meaning his match with Dragon Lee could no longer go ahead! However, Gable did suggest that Lee face El Grande instead! It was then time for the first Title defense of the night as Lyra Valkyria put her Women’s Intercontinental Championship on the line against Raquel Rodriguez! Raquel was mostly in control here as her size and power advantage was too much for Lyra, but the Women’s IC Champ was able to fight back with her agility and quickness! Liv Morgan was also being a nuisance on the outside as she consistently got involved in the proceedings, but despite this, Valkyria was able to retain her Title following a surprise roll-up on Rodriguez! After the match, Liv and Raquel went to beat up Lyra, but Bayley ran down to make the save!

Jimmy Uso told Jey Uso that the way he’s going, he can’t beat Gunther, and the only guy that can is The Right-Hand Man, “Main Event” Jey Uso! Jimmy also found Gunther and slapped him after challenging the World Heavyweight Champion to a match for next week before Adam Pearce came out to the ring to address what’s happening with the Women’s World Championship Match at WrestleMania! Pearce said that whilst Rhea Ripley is owed a rematch, Bianca Belair earnt her spot at WrestleMania, but it was Iyo Sky who came out and said she wants to face them both! This annoyed Bianca who interrupted and said that Rhea doesn’t deserve it before Ripley arrived and said she just wants her Women’s World Championship back! In the end, Adam Pearce booked a rematch between Iyo and Rhea for next week’s Raw, with the winner facing Belair at WrestleMania! That’s not finishing clean!

Dominik Mysterio made a good suggestion as to why Penta should join The Judgment Day before The War Raiders got a video package! This led to The New Day demanding a shot at the World Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania which Adam Pearce rejected before Pearce also booked Bianca Belair as the Special Guest Referee for next week’s Women’s World Championship match! It was then time for the WWE in-ring debut of El Grande Americano as he went one-on-one with Dragon Lee! The more I see of this guy, the more I’m convinced that it is in fact Chad Gable, but the positive to that is it means that El Grande is a great professional wrestler! This was the match of the night for me, I found it to be really enjoyable, and amazingly, Americano pulled off the mask of Dragon Lee before he locked in an Ankle Lock, forcing Lee to tap whilst also covering his face up! That’s pretty good Heel work if you ask me!

Grade: B

CM Punk was out next as The Best in the World wanted to address what happened at the end of last week’s Friday Night SmackDown! Punk called Seth “Freakin” Rollins a cry-baby, and he told Roman Reigns that his Wiseman isn’t just a Wiseman! Punk also said that there’s going to be a contract signing on Friday, but he had to come to Glasgow to remind everyone that he truly is The Best in the World! This very much felt like a way to just get CM Punk on the show, he really didn’t add much to the story!

Intercontinental Championship: Bron Breakker VS Penta

And in the Main Event of this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw, Live from Glasgow, Scotland, Bron Breakker faced one of his biggest tests yet as he put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Penta! This was a good match, it was pretty evenly matched, and the fact that both guys barely lose (I mean, Penta hasn’t lost yet) made this for an interesting watch. The Judgment Day also arrived at ringside as Carlito and Dominik Mysterio were impressed by Penta’s arsenal, but for some reason, Dominik decided to attack Bron from behind, causing the DQ finish! Finn Balor then arrived with a chair as him and the rest of The JD went in on Breakker, but Penta rejected their offer to join as he kicked Dom right in the face! However, Balor was able to take him down with the steel chair before Finn hit a Coup de Grace to end the show standing tall! It feels like it’s been a while since I’ve said that to end an article!
