WWE Monday Night Raw Review: 23/09

Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio Start the Show, Ludwig Kaiser VS Sami Zayn

Monday Night Raw kicked off this week with Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman brawling through the back as Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio arrived at the arena. Liv talked about how great her and Dominik are, and that The Liv Morgan Revenge Tour is going perfectly! Rhea Ripley then arrived to say that she will be taking her Women’s World Championship back at Bad Blood before she announced that in that match, Dominik Mysterio will be hanging above the ring in a shark cage! Mysterio clearly wasn’t a fan of this, and Ripley then floored Morgan with a headbutt to end the segment!

We then went straight into the first match of the night as Sami Zayn clashed with Ludwig Kaiser. Unfortunately for me, the audio was bugged during this contest, and that really took away from everything. I mean, the action was decent, but I couldn’t focus on it because the audio coming before the action was honestly too distracting. In the end, Sami picked up a win with a Helluva Kick before Gunther arrived to tease a World Heavyweight Championship match, only for The Ring General to once again say no.

Carlito VS Dragon Lee, Bronson Reed VS The Miz, Drew McIntyre Promo

The New Day were talking backstage before American Made came up to them and mocked them. Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio were then furious with Adam Pearce before The Judgment Day had another interesting interaction with Ilja Dragunov. Carlito then headed to the ring for a singles match with Dragon Lee, and this was pretty simple stuff. Rey Mysterio arrived to take out the interfering JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio whilst Dragon Lee showed off his athletic ability to ultimately win with Operation Dragon. There’s really not much else to say other than it’s nice to see Dragon Lee back on Tele!

Karrion Kross got into the ear of The Miz about how monsters come in all shapes and sizes before Sheamus talked about how he’s not at all finished with Pete Dunne (aka Butch)! Bronson Reed was then heading down to the ring to go one-on-one with The Miz, but Braun Strowman attacked him before the match could start, and The Miz wasn’t at all happy. Miz was then wiped out by a Bronson Reed suicide dive before the two monsters continued to brawl in the ring, and beat up security guards in the process! This was wild, and it was eventually broken up, but these two are doing great work at the minute!

Straight after all of that mess, Drew McIntyre arrived to cut a promo about how he doesn’t want to go back inside Hell in a Cell, but he simply has no other choice. Drew made it clear that he’s going to make CM Punk hurt like he’s never hurt before, and that Punk calling himself the Devil is fitting given this has always been about “Good VS Evil”! This was a really short promo from McIntyre, there isn’t a lot to say about it, but McIntyre’s constant belief that he’s the good guy in this situation is brilliant!

Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn VS Damage CTRL, American Made VS The New Day

Adam Pearce announced that Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman will face off next week in a “Last Monster Standing” Match before Pete Dunne once again attacked Sheamus with a cricket bat! Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill then talked nonsense to Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane as it was time for Damage CTRL to clash with Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn. This match actually got a decent amount of time, unfortunately, it was a bit scrappy. Everyone here is talented, three of these women are extremely good, and some of the best NXT Women’s Champions in recent history. But for some reason, it just didn’t click here. Despite The Unholy Union’s best efforts, an Over the Moonsault from Iyo Sky was enough for DC to get the W!

Bron Breakker cut a promo about how it’s not the right time for Jey Uso to be challenging for the Intercontinental Championship before we got a shield on the screen, potentially a teaser for the returning Viking Raiders? Sami Zayn then wished Jey Uso luck for his big Main Event Match before American Made clashed with The New Day. These are two good Tag Teams so they were able to have a decent match that also got a good amount of time! I think another positive to this match was neither team could really afford to lose which meant the story became more important. See, after Chad Gable tried to get involved, Xavier Woods snapped and absolutely destroyed The Master, but this just opened the door for The Creed Brothers to hit their finisher to score the win. Not only was this a great plan from Chad Gable, but it also furthered Woods’ ongoing struggles.

Damian Priest had a great video promo where he talked about how Finn Balor was his brother, but now he’s going to end this once and for all at Bad Blood. Honestly, Priest is once again having a great year! The Wyatt Sick6 then had a video of their own before The Pure Fusion Collective also got a video package! To be fair, this was actually pretty cool! Xavier Woods then got annoyed at The LWO and Rey Mysterio for disrespecting him, and again, this was another sign of Woods clearly losing it! Oh, and we then got an incredible video to hype us up for next week’s “Last Monster Standing” Match!

Intercontinental Championship: Bron Breakker VS Jey Uso

And in the Main Event, Bron Breakker put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against “Main Event” Jey Uso! This match was built up as a big deal, and the crowd were fully invested in it! Bron Breakker is really good, I don’t think anyone can have doubts about that, and Jey Uso is so unbelievably over it’s insane! After Jey kicked out of a Military Press Powerslam, Bron floored him on the outside with a devastating Spear! However, when they got back into the ring, Uso hit a Spear of his own followed by an Uso Splash for a terrific near-fall! The two then went back to ringside as Jey reversed Breakker’s Spear this time before Uso delivered another Spear to send The Badass crashing through the barricade! Jey Uso then got back into the ring to hit another Spear followed by a second Uso Splash to pin Bron Breakker and become the new Intercontinental Champion! This was a great moment for Jey, he’s worked very hard for this, and this was actually a bit of a surprise, but I don’t think it will effect Bron Breakker too much cause he’s already established himself as a major player!
