WWE Friday Night SmackDown Review: 20/12

Solo Sikoa Starts the Show, The Bloodline VS LA Knight, Andrade, and Apollo Crews

Credit: Spazio Wrestling

Friday Night SmackDown kicked off this week with The Bloodline coming down to the ring as Solo Sikoa asked for Acknowledgement (like always)! Solo then agreed to face Roman Reigns at the Raw premiere on Netflix before Drew McIntyre interrupted to say he’s torn as to whether he should wipe Sikoa out or let him be! Ultimately, Drew decided that he’d let Solo take out Roman for good, but once that’s done, they’d have to settle their issues! Jimmy Uso then arrived to start a brawl with McIntyre before LA Knight, Andrade, and Apollo Crews ran down to kick off the opening match of the night! This was a bog-standard 6-Man Tag Team match with a few nice dives, but mostly just normal action! Jacob Fatu and Andrade are particularly fun to watch which gave this match at least something, but in the end, after Shinsuke Nakamura took out LA Knight, it was Solo Sikoa who picked up a much-needed victory following a Samoan Spike to Apollo Crews!

The Grayson Waller Effect (Featuring Braun Strowman), Braun Strowman VS Carmelo Hayes, Johnny Gargano VS Alex Shelley

Alex Shelley told Chris Sabin that he has to face Johnny Gargano alone before we got a fun celebratory promo from Chelsea Green! Kevin Owens then said what he’s done is nothing compared to what he could do before The Grayson Waller Effect returned as A-Town Down Under welcomed their guest, Braun Strowman! Waller and Theory thought it would be great if Braun aligned himself with them, but Strowman was fed up of this nonsense before Carmelo Hayes arrived to say he wanted to face Braun again after not being prepared for him last week! We then got this match, and it was a bit of a mess! I cannot understand why Carmelo Hayes isn’t just being allowed to wrestle classic matches like he did both in NXT and against Andrade, like all of this seems like a massive waste! However, the ending was at least somewhat creative as Melo managed to pick up the victory after outsmarting Strowman to win by count-out! Just don’t do this again, please!

Braun Strowman threatened Santos Escobar backstage as Angel Garza pointed in Carmelo Hayes’ direction before a question from Pretty Deadly allowed Melo to sneak from behind and whack Strowman with a Steel Chair! It was then time for two former buddies to square off as Johnny Gargano went one-on-one with Alex Shelley! I have no doubt in my mind that these two men could pull off a great Wrestling match, but I don’t feel like they were ever given the opportunity to do so here! The crowd was pretty flat which didn’t help matters, but it was just another standard contest! Tommaso Ciampa eventually showed up to distract Shelley which allowed Gargano to sneak away with the roll-up victory!

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill VS Nia Jax and Candice LeRae

After a recap of the Netflix Kickoff Show, the Main Event of this week’s Friday Night SmackDown saw Bianca Belair and Naomi put their WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships on the line against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae! This was another standard Tag Team match, there really wasn’t much to it, I thought Nia and Candice worked well together, but it was another missable contest! Towards the end of the match, Tiffany Stratton came down to try and cheer on her “friends”, but this only cost Nia Jax who was taken out by Bianca Belair before Naomi delivered her Split-Legged Moonsault onto LeRae to get the victory! Okay!
