WWE Friday Night SmackDown Review: 06/10

The Bloodline interrupt LA Knight, Damage CTRL VS Asuka and Charlotte Flair

LA Knight arrived to kick off this week’s Friday Night SmackDown, but he was straight away interrupted by The Bloodline as Paul Heyman put Knight over as the “next big thing” in the industry. However, because of that, The Bloodline need to take care of him, but before they could attack The Megastar, John Cena ran down to make the save before Jimmy Uso accepted LA Knight’s challenge for a match later in the show. Paul Heyman was not pleased about this one bit. This was a fine opening segment, there was nothing wrong with it, but it also didn’t further the feud that much.

Grade: C

The Judgment Day then arrived with all of their Championship gold before it was time for Asuka and Charlotte Flair to team up to take on Damage CTRL. All four women in this match are top-tier competitors, but the problem is I’ve seen either Asuka or Charlotte Flair take on Damage CTRL like 65 times now and nothing ever changes. Bayley and the WWE Women’s Champion Iyo Sky have a bit of descension before Charlotte pins The Role Model. Funnily enough, that’s exactly what happened here and the only thing to note is Flair accidentally booted Asuka off the apron. Why Damage Control aren’t allowed to win matches I’ll never know!

Rey Mysterio VS Bobby Lashley, Austin Theory VS Dragon Lee

As The Bloodline walked to their locker room, they noticed the door was open and when they entered the room, they came across The Judgment Day who wanted to have a “little chat”. When we came back from the ad break, the members of the factions were just staring at each other for some reason before Rhea Ripley said she wanted to speak with Paul Heyman alone. Before we saw that conversation, the United States Champion Rey Mysterio went one-on-one with Bobby Lashley. This match was alright, it was nice to see Bobby doing his thing in the ring again, but I also struggled to focus fully on the match as Angelo Dawkins kept putting me off with his stupid trash-talking. Near the end of the match, Bobby Lashley decided to just throw Santos Escobar into the timekeepers' area for some reason before The Street Profits beat up Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde. Whilst Rey Mysterio was able to take Ford and Dawkins out, the United States Champion got back into the ring and got met with a devastating Spear from Lashley which was enough for The All Mighty to pick up the victory.

Grade: C

Rhea Ripley and Paul Heyman agreed that The Judgment Day and The Bloodline are stronger together before Heyman said he needed to call Roman Reigns to get all of this “authorised.” However, the Women’s World Champion fired back at The Wiseman by saying “Acknowledge Me” in a super line before Ripley threatened Heyman about what would happen if things aren’t “authorised.” We then saw Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn getting very excited about a new spell before it was time for a match between Austin Theory and Dragon Lee. Austin Theory cut a promo beforehand saying he was better than everybody, but he needed quite a bit of help from Grayson Waller to keep Dragon Lee down. However, when The Arrogant Aussie was whipped out by Cameron Grimes (of all people), Lee rolled up Theory to pick up the biggest victory of his WWE career so far. Whilst I’m happy to see Cameron Grimes involved in all of this, I really don’t want to see a Tag Team match between these four guys as A-Town Down Under must stay undefeated at all costs whilst it would be a shame to see the former Million Dollar Champion get pinned again.

Grade: C+

Jimmy Uso VS LA Knight

After Rey Mysterio said he was going to make a phone call due to both Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde being ruled out of action for Fastlane, it was Main Event time as “The Megastar” LA Knight took on Jimmy Uso. If I’m being honest, I can’t really tell you anything about this match because it was only here to build to the end of the show. What I mean by that is Solo Sikoa arrived and started attacking Knight (causing the DQ) before John Cena ran down to make the save like he did earlier in the night. However, the difference here was The Judgment Day’s music hit and they stormed their way down to the ring holding a total of 6 Championship Titles as well as the Money in the Bank Briefcase. Paul Heyman and Rhea Ripley then shook hands before the six male competitors (Balor, Priest, Mysterio, Uso, Sikoa, and McDonagh) all jumped onto the apron. However, “Main Event” Jey Uso’s music then hit before Cody Rhodes’ followed as we got a really cool standoff. We then got a massive brawl between the Babyfaces and the Heels before it ended with all the good guys hitting their finishing moves onto JD McDonagh (I felt sorry for the guy). This was by far the best thing on the show mainly because it was the only thing that (felt like it) mattered. Also, if this is leading to a War Games match at Survivor Series, we may as well do 8-VS-8 because there are more than enough people involved in this storyline.

Grade: B- (Match and Post-Match Angle Combined)
