WWE Friday Night SmackDown Review: 06/09

Cody Rhodes Starts the Show, Bayley VS Tiffany Stratton

Friday Night SmackDown kicked off this week with Cody Rhodes as the Undisputed WWE Champion talked about his victory over Kevin Owens at Bash in Berlin. Cody then offered out a welcoming to The Bloodline which is when Solo Sikoa and the rest of the gang arrived as Solo laid his claim to another shot at the World Title. Rhodes actually seemed to feel like Jacob Fatu deserved the opportunity more, but Solo and Cody eventually agreed to fight before Nick Aldis confirmed that that match will be contested inside of a Steel Cage! This was a pretty basic segment, but it did its job effectively.

Pretty Deadly were helping Tiffany Stratton get ready before Nia Jax came in and asked Tiffany some questions regarding her Money in the Bank Briefcase. This was good timing as Tiffany competed against Bayley next in the opening match of the night! This was a decent contest between two super-talented competitors, and it was cool to see two people I like a lot going at it! Interestingly, as previously teased, Nia Jax did make her way down to ringside, but she got met with a suicide dive for her troubles. Queen Nia then jumped onto the apron and ultimately cost Stratton a roll-up win before Bayley dropped Tiffany with the Rose Plant to score the victory!

Apollo Crews VS Giovanni Vinci, Austin Theory VS Kevin Owens VS Grayson Waller, LA Knight Promo, Chelsea Green VS Michin

Kevin Owens called A-Town Down Under a bunch of idiots whilst also booking a Triple Threat match with them before Legado Del Fantasma talked about what success really looks like. Speaking of success, Giovanni Vinci was out next for his long-awaited debut against Apollo Crews. However, the debut only lasted 10 seconds as after the referee stupidly rang the bell early, Crews rolled up Vinci for the 3 count to win in about 6-to-7 seconds! On the one hand, this was absolutely terrible and was pretty stupid. On the other hand, it might just work down the line, but that’s a big might!

Nick Aldis got fed up of Chelsea Green’s antics so he booked Chelsea in a match with Michin before Kevin Owens clashed with A-Town Down Under in what was actually a Triple Threat Match! Now, what this meant is even though Austin Theory and Grayson Waller worked together, only one of them could get the victory which is why Theory wouldn’t allow Waller to pin Kevin Owens. This actually just allowed KO to take advantage and win following a superb Stunner to Austin Theory, but it was A-Town Down Under who stood tall after the match after both guys hit their finishers!

We got a video package highlighting some of SmackDown’s best moments on FOX before LA Knight arrived to cut a promo about how great of a United States Champion he already is. This was soon interrupted by Carmelo Hayes who laid claim to the fact that he’s the rightful Number 1 Contender before Andrade arrived to throw his name into the hat too. This ultimately led to a brawl that saw The Megastar stand tall, but I’m telling you, a Triple Threat between these three could be money!

A-Town Down Under requested a Tag Team match against Kevin Owens and a partner of his choice for next week (it definetly won’t be Randy Orton) before Chelsea Green arrived to go one-on-one with Michin. This match probably only went 3 or so minutes, but it was fine for what it was. Michin continued to sell a rib injury throughout the contest, and after more stupid refereeing from the same guy that did the Vinci match (he should be fired), Piper Niven was able to get involved by crushing Mia Yim’s ribs with a massive running senton. Chelsea Green then delivered the UnprettiHer to score the W!

The Bloodline VS The Street Profits and DIY

Credit: Wrestling Noticias

After a backstage promo, it was Main Event time as The Street Profits and DIY teamed up to take on The Bloodline! Tommaso Ciampa was the guy used in this match to get worked over before Angelo Dawkins and Johnny Gargano became the “hot tag kings”. Tama Tonga was his usual crazy self whilst Jacob Fatu continues to be the best thing about the group. In the end, though, it was Solo Sikoa who picked up some much-needed momentum following 2 Samoan Spikes to Montez Ford! This was a decent Main Event, it was cool that The Bloodline stood tall in the final SmackDown episode on FOX, but it wasn’t must-see action either!
