WWE Friday Night SmackDown Review: 01/11

Nia Jax Starts the Show, Liv Morgan VS Tiffany Stratton

Friday Night SmackDown kicked off with Nia Jax as the WWE Women’s Champion talked about how she’s going to destroy Liv Morgan and be crowned the inaugural Women’s Crown Jewel Champion! This is when Liv arrived to say that it’s going to be her that walks out of Crown Jewel as the victor before Tiffany Stratton appeared as she teased cashing in her Money in the Bank Briefcase on either women! Tiffany then made a comment about Dominik Mysterio which angered Liv to the point that the two Blondes had a match. The match was actually very scrappy, it was a bit of a mess unfortunately. It felt almost way too overbooked, and the chemistry was just not there! In the end, a roll-up from Morgan saw her pin Stratton before Nia Jax wrecked the Women’s World Champion to stand tall!

Pretty Deadly VS The Street Profits, Bayley and Naomi VS Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell

Kevin Owens was clearly very upset with how Randy Orton has recently treated him before it was time for some Tag Team action as Pretty Deadly took on The Street Profits! Firstly, Pretty Deadly giving “Pretty Deadly: The Musical” scripts to Lin-Manuel Miranda was brilliant, and the action itself  was decent enough! Kit Wilson and Elton Prince were pretty dominant for most of this contest, but as soon as Angelo Dawkins made the hot-tag, The Profits started to run wild! B-Fab also got involved to take out Prince (which seemed rather unfair), and this led to The Street Profits hitting their Tag Team finisher to get the win!

Tiffany Stratton was explaining to Nia Jax about her plan to cash-in her Money in the Bank Briefcase before Naomi made it clear that she wants the WWE Women’s Championship! This then led into a Tag Team match as Bayley and Naomi teamed up to take on Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell. The action itself was alright, there was a stupid bit with the referee, but otherwise it was fine. However, the main thing of note was we already knew in advance that this was going to be Indi Hartwell’s last match in the company, which sucks because I’ve been a big fan of Indi for years now! In the end, it was Naomi who scored the win after pinning LeRae.

Jey Uso Comes Out to Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair VS Iyo Sky VS Lash Legend VS Piper Niven

Roman Reigns was out next along with Jimmy Uso as The Head of the Table wanted to talk about the upcoming 6-Man Tag Team match that takes place at Crown Jewel. However, it was Jimmy who did a lot of the talking as he told Roman that he needs to fix his issue with Jey Uso before Jey arrived to make it clear to Roman that he’s only doing this match to get back at Solo, and because it’s what Family does! What I liked about this is Jey made it clear that he hasn’t forgotten all the damage his cousin put him through, and you could tell these words affected Roman Reigns. In the end, though, all 3 men agreed to keep it civil as they raised their ones to the sky!

The Motor City Machine Guns were invited to be guests on “The Grayson Waller Effect” by A-Town Down Under before Bianca Belair, Iyo Sky, Lash Legend, and Piper Niven clashed in a Fatal 4-Way ahead of the upcoming Fatal 4-Way Tag Team clash for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships! This was actually a fun match, Iyo Sky is amazing, Bianca Belair is a veteran nowadays, Piper Niven is very underrated, and Lash Legend is a star for the future! The funny thing about these matches is you never want to win them because it tends to mean you won’t walk out the following show as the Champions! For this match, it was Iyo Sky who took advantage of a K.O.D. from The EST to pin Legend for the victory!

Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton VS Imperium

Credit: Forbes

After a video package hyping up tonight’s United States Championship Match and a great promo from Solo Sikoa, it was very much Main Event time as Cody Rhodes teamed up with Randy Orton to take on Imperium! This was back to the standard SmackDown Main Event where the good guys were able to run wild on Ludwig Kaiser in what was sort of a House Show-style match! Of course, Kaiser is very good so he never felt out of place in this match, but he was obviously going to get pinned from a Cross Rhodes from the Undisputed WWE Champion! Interestingly though, after the match, Kevin Owens arrived and attacked Randy Orton with a steel chair before Gunther choked out Cody Rhodes to end the show. That honestly surprised me a bit!
