WrestleMania 39 Night 2 Review

Brock Lesnar VS Omos

In what I thought was quite a surprise, Brock Lesnar VS Omos kicked off night two of WrestleMania 39. Omos was in control of this match for the most part until Brock Lesnar delivered a German Suplex. The Beast then hit two more Germans before he impressively picked up the Nigerian Giant and delivered an F5 to get the win. This match was short and was what I expected. However, it would’ve been nice to see Omos kick out of one F5.

Women’s Showcase Match: Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez VS Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler VS Natalya and Shotzi VS Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green

I’ll be honest, this was probably the match I was least looking forward to going into WrestleMania weekend. I actually thought it was alright though; Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez looked great, Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green put on a show and it’s the best both Shotzi and Natalya have looked in a long time. Natalya’s Sharpshooter on both Chelsea and Sonya at the same time was great. However, the ending saw Ronda Rousey tag herself in and she made Shotzi tap in the armbar. Rousey literally didn’t hit a single move or get hit by a single move before this ending. It was a terrible end to what had been a decent match and it clearly showed that WWE only cared about one person in this match. What happened to Rousey saying she wanted to put younger talent over?

Intercontinental Championship: Gunther VS Drew McIntyre VS Sheamus

The Intercontinental Championship was the first belt to be defended on the night as Gunther put his championship on the line against Drew McIntyre and Sheamus. I just have to say that having Ludwig Kaiser do the into for Gunther was a really cool touch. I thought this match was excellent, it was probably my favourite match over the two nights. This was just a hard-hitting war between 3 bruisers and we got lots of close near falls. Drew kicked out of Gunther’s Powerbomb, Drew kicked out of Sheamus’ Brogue and Sheamus kicked out of Drew’s Claymore. In the end, Sheamus thought he had the win when he delivered another Brogue Kick to McIntyre, but Gunther hit a splash on both of them before he Powerbombed the Celtic Warrior onto the back of the Scottish Warrior. The Ring General then delivered another Powerbomb to Drew McIntyre to get the victory. Massive thumbs up from me, this was excellent.

Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair VS Asuka

Both Bianca Belair and Asuka got special WrestleMania entrances and I thought the EST's was particularly good. The match itself was decent, both women looked good even though it wasn’t anywhere near as good as the other women’s championship match from yesterday. However, the ending was bad. Asuka failed in her attempt to spit mist into Belair’s face and after Bianca got out of the armbar, the EST picked up the victory after she delivered the K.O.D. I found this really disappointing. Asuka’s looked awesome in the run between the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber, but this really hurts her. Also, Bianca Belair’s title run has been stale for a long time so this is pretty bad. You could say this summarises the feud itself.

The Miz VS Shane McMahon/Snoop Dogg

The Miz and Snoop Dogg announced that tonight’s attendance was 81,347 so higher than yesterday. However, Snoop Dogg said The Miz should have another match and out came Shane McMahon. At this point, I thought this show couldn’t get any worse, but it did as the bell rang and Shane hit his awful punches. He then fell over as he did his knee in before Snoop Dogg came in and knocked out the Miz. He then hit a version of the People’s Elbow before he pinned the Miz and got a WrestleMania victory. This was a complete and utter mess. I have no idea how or why WWE thought bringing Shane McMahon back would be a good thing. However, fair play to both Snoop Dogg and The Miz for improvising.

Edge VS “The Demon” Finn Balor: Hell in a Cell

Both Edge and “the Demon” Finn Balor came out with awesome entrances. The match itself was not awesome. The two fought inside Hell in a Cell and whilst it was decent, they were some ify moments including Finn Balor being busted open after Edge through a ladder at his face. This actually resulted in medical personnel having to walk in and attend to Balor whilst Edge walked around looking for weapons. When the match got back going, Balor went for a Coup de Grace, but Edge moved and the Demon went through the table. Balor did then kick out of the Spear, but he wasn’t able to kick out after the Rated-R Superstar hit Finn with the con-chair-to meaning the Demon lost again. I think this sums up this feud perfectly. Balor and the Judgment Day look cool, but they always lose to Edge who was supposed to come back and put new talent over. Another bad ending to a pretty decent match.

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns VS Cody Rhodes

The Main Event of WrestleMania 39 saw Roman Reigns put his 945-day championship reign on the line against Cody Rhodes who was looking to finish his story. Roman Reigns’ entrance was awesome as it involved piano’s and it went on for just under 7 and a half minutes (I timed it). Every time Cody Rhodes got on top, Solo Sikoa interfered, but finally, the referee sent Solo to the back. Roman was then put through a table and he came close to picking up the victory after he delivered the Cross Rhodes. Roman also delivered a Spear which the American Nightmare kicked out at 2. The referee then got knocked down by an accidental kick from Rhodes and this allowed the Usos to show up and hit the 1D to Cody. However, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn showed up and they took out the Usos before the Undisputed Tag Team Champions hit their finishers onto Roman Reigns. Cody Rhodes then covered Reigns, but the Tribal Chief just barely kicked out. It then actually looked as if the American Nightmare was going to finish his story as he delivered another two Cross Rhodes to the Champion. However, Paul Heyman distracted the referee whilst Cody attempted his finisher for the third time in a row and Solo Sikoa returned and hit the Samoan Spike on Cody. Roman then hit Rhodes with the Spear to retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. I thought this match was excellent, it felt like a main event match on the biggest show of the year (which it was) and the near falls were really good. I also love Roman Reigns as World Champion so I’m happy that he won. However, the crowd did go quiet afterwards and looking at the reaction online, people were not happy about this ending.
