The first Race of 2025 saw a Safety Car change everything in the Mexico City E-Prix!

Winner: Oliver Rowland

Of course, we start with the first winner of 2025, Oliver Rowland! Oliver Rowland was running P3 for a lot of the early stages of the Race, but he sort of dropped away and looked set for a P4 finish. However, after activating his Attack Mode, a Safety Car came out almost immediately after meaning Rowland was able to bunch up to the Top 3. And with a minute and a bit to go left of his Attack Mode, the Safety Car came in and this is where Ollie Rowland pounced to pass Jake Dennis and the 2 TAG Heuer Porsche’s to take a shock victory in Mexico City! This very much came out of nowhere, but you could argue that Ollie Rowland definitely deserved it after being unlucky back in Sao Paulo!

Loser: Mitch Evans

After staring in Sao Paulo a month ago, Mexico City was not the weekend that Mitch Evans had planned! Qualifying was decent for Mitch as he took P5 after being the fastest loser in the Quarter-Final stage of the Duels! However, the Race pace just wasn’t there for Jaguar and it resulted in Evans being in the lower end of the points, but still, points are points! However, on Lap 32, following a Safety Car restart, Mitch drove into the back of the Andretti of Nico Muller meaning the Kiwi came away from the weekend empty-handed! To be fair, Mitch Evans is still third in the Championship at this very early stage of the year, but any weekend without points could prove costly come the end.

Winners: DS Penske

The Mexico City E-Prix Weekend should be seen as a starting point for DS Penske to build on. After only coming away with 2 points from Sao Paulo, DS looked much more on the pace this weekend with both Jean-Eric Vergne and Maximilian Gunther making it into the Duels! In the Race, whilst DS Penske might not have been quite as efficient as the Porsche Powertrained cars, they ultimately came away with 18 points as JEV finished 5th whilst Max Gunther finished 6th! To have two cars in the Top 6 in Formula E is a really positive result, and DS will be hoping that this is the start of a strong campaign!

Loser: Nick Cassidy

Whilst teammate Mitch Evans didn’t have a good weekend, Nick Cassidy’s weekend really didn’t go to plan! Despite looking quick, a technical infringement forced Nick to start all the way at the back of the Grid, but that’s actually not the biggest disaster in Formula E as Cassidy has made a habit of overtaking people for fun! However, that didn’t happen here as Nick really struggled to make ground on the field and ended up finishing down in 12th! This means that Nick Cassidy is still yet to get a point on the board, and that’s simply not good enough for the Kiwi!

Winners and Losers: TAG Heuer Porsche

TAG Heuer Porsche will have very mixed feelings about the weekend they just had in Mexico City! Things started so great for the team with Pascal Wehrlein beating Antonio Felix da Costa in an all-Porsche Final, and for a lot of the Race, Porsche looked to be in control with Pascal leading to begin with whilst Antonio found himself in front towards the end of the Race. However, as we all know, a Safety Car changed all of that and resulted in Oliver Rowland passing both cars to take the win, and whilst a double Podium is a great result, this will definitely feel like a win that got away for the German manufacturer!

Losers: NEOM McLaren

Sao Paulo was a weekend of celebration for NEOM McLaren, with Taylor Barnard becoming the youngest Podium sitter in Formula E history whilst the team left the weekend leading the Teams’ Championship! However, Mexico City was anything but that as neither car made it into the Duels before Sam Bird had a really tough Race, finishing all the way down in 18th! To be fair, Taylor Barnard had a good E-Prix to make it back into the points, but a post-Race penalty resulted in the young Brit dropping down to 14th meaning McLaren came away from the weekend no better than when they entered it!

Winners and Losers: Andretti Formula E

Sao Paulo was not the start to Season 11 that Andretti Formula E were hoping for, but the positive was that they at least had some pace in the car. In Mexico City, Qualifying went okay, but it was the middle part of the Race that really came alive for them. See, Nico Muller was having a strong afternoon and this allowed Andretti to use him to help Jake Dennis take the lead. The important part about this is this is something that Andretti haven’t been able to do the past few years due to their second driver being off the pace. However, the E-Prix ultimately didn’t quite end up as they would’ve hoped as Dennis lost out on the Podium to a charging Oliver Rowland whilst Muller somehow ended up finishing down in 9th. Again, there are both positives and negatives to take from this weekend if you’re Andretti Formula E, and they’ll be looking to get right back at it in Jeddah next time out!
