With two Races taking place in Misano this weekend, it means some drivers had two great days, some drivers had two bad days, and others had a mixture. Let’s go through them, shall we?!
Winner: Pascal Wehrlein
In fairness, Pascal Wehrlein had a weekend of two halves. Yesterday, Pascal was doing okay before he made a silly misjudgement which ultimately forced him to pit for a new wing which in Formula E means you’re out of contention for anything meaningful. However, today was a very different story as Wehrlein drove a really great Race, and with some great strategy on the energy front, the TAG Heuer Porsche driver was able to take his second win of the year (the first driver to do that in Season 10) and Pascal now leads the Championship as a result. So yeah, whilst it’s not been the perfect weekend for Pascal Wehrlein by any stretch, the fact that Wehrlein is now the leader of the pack makes him a winner in my book!
Loser: Antonio Felix da Costa
Unfortunately, Antonio Felix da Costa has to go in this category this weekend. Now firstly, we will talk about how great Antonio drove yesterday on his way to crossing the finish line first. However, da Costa was given a post-race disqualification, and even though it does seem very harsh, it still happened so the Tag Heuer Porsche driver once again scored 0 points. As for today, if Antonio was aiming for redemption today, he failed miserably as the Season 6 Champion was forced to pit for damage after a small misjudgement into Turn 1, and it means Antonio Felix da Costa leaves this weekend 14th in the Drivers’ Championship after adding no points to his overall tally!
Winners: ERT and ABT CUPRA
Turning are attention towards the back of the Teams’ Championship Standings, ERT and ABT CUPRA have not had the best of starts to the year. However, they will both leave this weekend feeling very happy about their big points hauls. Firstly, Dan Ticktum came home in a brilliant P4 for ERT yesterday whilst Nico Muller replicated that result for ABT today. Also, Sergio Sette Camara managed a P6 finish in the second Race of the weekend whilst Lucas di Grassi scored 1 point yesterday. So yeah, congratulations to both of these teams on a really great weekend!
Losers: Envision Racing
Yikes, this was not the weekend that Envision Racing had “Envisioned” happening! They didn’t have a great day yesterday, with Sebastien Buemi coming home 12th whilst Robin Frijns finished P17, but that was nothing compared to today as they suffered a double DNF as both Frijns and Buemi got involved in incidents. Envision currently find themselves 8th in the Teams’ Championship, and they’re actually closer to ERT in 9th than NEOM McLaren in 7th which is very worrying for the reigning Teams’ Champions!
Winner and Loser: Oliver Rowland
Oliver Rowland has definitely been the surprise package of Season 10 of ABB FIA Formula E. After no points in the first two Races of the year, Rowland bounced back with 3 consecutive Podiums and he made it 4-in-a-row in style yesterday! Also, due to a post-race disqualification, Rowland won yesterday’s Misano E-Prix meaning he started today as the Championship leader. In Round 7’s E-Prix, Rowland was looking strong pace-wise, but he was clearly lacking in energy. In the end, Ollie went a little too far with his pace and it cost him dearly, running out of energy on the Final Lap which ultimately saw him DNF! So whilst Oliver Rowland did win yesterday, and he is still third in the Championship, today was a mistake he and Nissan can’t afford to make again if they want to become World Champions in London.
Loser: Sam Bird
Sam Bird’s weekend started alright, with him leading yesterday’s Misano E-Prix at points. However, Sam ultimately had to retire from the E-Prix after picking up a puncture as a result of a collision with a certain Maserati MSG driver before things didn’t get much better for him today as he made a few too many mistakes, including spinning on his own at Turn 7. Amazingly, Bird managed to cross the line in 11th place, but a weekend with no points has already put him a long way behind the Championship leaders.
Winner: Jake Dennis
I often say that in Formula E, consistency wins Championships. And in Formula E, there’s no one that’s as consistently good as Jake Dennis. Jake drove a super Race yesterday, climbing all the way from P17 to ultimately finish second before he replicated that same result today with another smart and mature drive. It’s worth mentioning that Dennis only won 2 Races last year, but it was his consistency that brought him a World Title, and his consistency this year currently has him level on points with Pascal Wehrlein for the lead of the Championship.
