Reacting to My 2024 NFL Season Predictions

Linus O'Howell

Back on August 23rd, 2023, I made my Predictions for the upcoming 2024 NFL Season! Well, we’ve officially arrived post Super Bowl LIX which is why it’s now time to go over those Predictions which is certainly going to be something! So, buckle up, and let’s see how bad I truly did!

In my Power Rankings, I had the Buffalo Bills 10th, the Miami Dolphins 6th, the New York Jets 3rd, and the New England Patriots 26th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the New York Jets to win the AFC East with a massive 15-2 record, and all I can say is this is a great start as The Jets finished third with a 5-12 record! In second, I had the Miami Dolphins to finish with a record of 13-4, and whilst Miami did manage to finish second, they only won 8 games! I then had the Buffalo Bills to end up third with a 9-8 record, but that was also completely wrong as The Bills won the Division with a 13-4 record! And finally, I had the New England Patriots to finish bottom of the AFC East with a record of just 2-15, and to be fair, I wasn’t too far off as The Patriots only won 4 games all year! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the New York Jets as the Number 2 seed, the Miami Dolphins as the Number 5 seed, and the Buffalo Bills as the Number 7 seed! What actually happened is The Jets and The Dolphins didn’t make the Playoffs whilst The Bills took the Number 2 seed!

In my Power Rankings, I had the Baltimore Ravens 5th, the Cleveland Browns 12th, the Pittsburgh Steelers 13th, and the Cincinnati Bengals 9th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC North with a 13-4 record, and I was pretty close with this one as The Ravens ended up winning 1 less game (but still winning the Division)! In second, I had the Cincinnati Bengals to finish with a record of 12-5, but neither of those things happened as The Bengals finished third with a record of 9-8! I then had the Pittsburgh Steelers to end up third with an 8-9 record, and that too didn’t happen as The Steelers won 10 games on their way to second place! And finally, I had the Cleveland Browns to finish bottom of the AFC North with a record of 7-10, and that was actually too high as The Browns only won 3 games all year round! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the Baltimore Ravens as the Number 4 seed and the Cincinnati Bengals as the Number 6 seed! What actually happened is The Ravens took the Number 3 seed, The Bengals didn’t get into the Playoffs whist The Steelers got in as the Number 6 seed!

AFC South

In my Power Rankings, I had the Houston Texans 8th, the Jacksonville Jaguars 17th, the Indianapolis Colts 23rd, and the Tennessee Titans 29th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the Houston Texans to easily win the AFC South with a 13-4 record! Whilst The Texans did end up as Division Champions, it was only with a 10-7 record! In second, I had the Jacksonville Jaguars to finish with a record of 7-10, and The Jags actually did worse than this, finishing third with just a 4-13 record! I then had the Indianapolis Colts to finish third with a 5-12 record, and to be fair to The Colts, they did better than this as they ended up going 8-9 to finish second! And finally, I had the Tennessee Titans to finish bottom of the AFC South with a terrible record of just 2-15, and I was so close here as The Titans won 1 game more! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the Houston Texans to take the Number 3 seed, and they instead took the Number 4 seed!

AFC West

In my Power Rankings, I had the Kansas City Chiefs 1st, the Las Vegas Raiders 19th, the Denver Broncos 30th, and the Los Angeles Chargers 20th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the Kansas City Chiefs to dominantly win the AFC West with a 16-1 record! I was super close here, but The Chiefs actually lost 2 games! In second, I had the Los Angeles Chargers to finish with a record of 8-9, and whilst they did finish second, The Chargers did it with a record of 11-6! I then had the Las Vegas Raiders to finish third with a 7-10 record, and they did worse than this as The Raiders finished last with a 4-13 record! And finally, I had the Denver Broncos to finish bottom of the AFC West with a shambolic record of 1-16! This is really bad, especially given the fact that The Broncos won 10 games (and we’ll get to the other reason in a second)! N TERMS OF THE Playoffs, I had the Kansas City Chiefs to take the Number 1 seed! To be fair, that happened, but The Chargers also got in with the Number 5 seed whilst The Broncos got in at Number 7!

In my Power Rankings, I had the Dallas Cowboys 4th, the Philadelphia Eagles 14th, the New York Giants 31st, and the Washington Commanders 28th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East with a 16-1 record, and this is probably one of my worst Predictions of all as The Cowboys finished third with a 7-10 record! Yikes! In second, I had the Philadelphia Eagles to finish with a record of 12-5, but they actually managed to do better than this as The Eagles won 14 games on their way to the Division Title! I then had the Washington Commanders to finish third with a 3-14 record, and this is also pretty abysmal as The Commanders won 12 games! And finally, I had the New York Giants to finish bottom of the NFC East with a record of 2-15, and this was close as The Giants managed just the 3 wins! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the Dallas Cowboys as the Number 2 seed and the Philadelphia Eagles as the Number 6 seed! What actually happened is The Cowboys didn’t make the Playoffs, The Eagles took the Number 2 seed, and The Commanders got in as the Number 6 seed!

In my Power Rankings, I had the Detroit Lions 7th, the Green Bay Packers 11th, the Minnesota Vikings 27th, and the Chicago Bears 22nd! In terms of my Predictions, I actually had the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC North with a 14-3 record! The Packers didn’t nearly do this well in the end, with an 11-6 record only being good enough for third in the Division! In second, I had the Detroit Lions to finish with a record of 13-4, and this was also wrong as The Lions won 15 games on their way to the Division Title! I then had the Chicago Bears to finish third with an 8-9 record, and I definitely overestimated The Bears as they finished bottom of their Division with a 5-12 record! And finally, I had the Minnesota Vikings to finish bottom of the NFC North with a record of just 3-14! This is a horrendous Prediction, with The Vikings record being flipped at 14-3! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the Green Bay Packers as the Number 3 seed and the Detroit Lions as the Number 5 seed! What actually happened was The Packers took the Number 7 seed, The Lions earnt the Number 1 seed, and The Vikings got in as the Number 5 seed!

In my Power Rankings, I had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 25th, the New Orleans Saints 16th, the Atlanta Falcons 15th, and the Carolina Panthers 32nd! In terms of my Predictions, I had the New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South with a 12-5 record! I was completely and utterly wrong here as The Saints finished bottom of the Division with a 5-12 record! In second, I had the Atlanta Falcons to also finish with a record of 12-5, and whilst The Falcons did finish second, they only won 8 games! I then had the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in third with a 5-12 record, and The Bucs’ 10-7 record that saw them win the NFC South would tell me they did far better than I predicted! And finally, I had the Carolina Panthers to finish bottom of the NFC South with a shambolic record of 1-16! To be fair to Carolina, they did better than this as they won 5 games and finished third as a result! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the New Orleans Saints as the Number 4 seed and the Atlanta Falcons as the Number 7 seed! What actually happened is neither of those teams made the Playoffs whilst The Buccaneers got in as the Number 3 seed!

In my Power Rankings, I had the San Francisco 49ers 2nd, the Los Angeles Rams 21st, the Seattle Seahawks 18th, and the Arizona Cardinals 24th! In terms of my Predictions, I had the San Francisco 49ers to win the NFC West with a dominant 16-1 record, and this is another terrible Prediction as The 49ers went 6-11 and finished last! In second, I had the Seattle Seahawks to finish with a record of 7-10, and whilst they did finish second, The Seahawks’ record was flipped! I then had the Arizona Cardinals to finish third with a 6-11 record, and again, whilst The Cardinals did finish third, they won 2 games more! And finally, I had the Los Angeles Rams to finish bottom of the NFC West with a record of 4-13, and yeah, this is another bad one as The Rams actually won 10 games and the Division itself! In terms of the Playoffs, I had the San Francisco 49ers as the Number 1 seed, and instead, The 49ers didn’t make the Playoffs at all whilst The Rams got in as the Number 4 seed!

2025 NFL Playoffs:

Super Wild Card Weekend

In my first AFC Playoff matchup, I had the Baltimore Ravens to beat the Miami Dolphins! Whilst Baltimore did win on this weekend, it wasn’t against The Dolphins as they didn’t make it! I then had the Houston Texans to win at home against the Cincinnati Bengals, and this was another game where I was right to say that The Texans would win, but it wasn’t against The Bengals! And finally, in the AFC, I had the New York Jets to beat the Buffalo Bills! Now, this was completely wrong as not only did The Jets fail to make the Playoffs completely, but The Bills also won their Wild Card game (before they ultimately lost in the AFC Championship game)!

In my first NFC Playoff matchup, I had the Detroit Lions to beat The Saints in New Orleans! None of this was correct as The Saints didn’t make the Playoffs whilst The Lions got a Bye straight to the Divisional Round! I then had the Green Bay Packers to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, and the fun thing about this Prediction is this game actually happened! However, it was The Eagles who came out victorious and ultimately went the distance! And finally, in the NFC, I had the Dallas Cowboys to beat the Atlanta Falcons which is funny because neither team made it this far!

Divisional Round

In my first AFC Divisional Round matchup, I had the New York Jets to beat the Houston Texans! In fairness, Houston did lose at this stage of the Playoffs, but it obviously wasn’t to The Jets cause they didn’t get there! In my other AFC Divisional Round game, I had the Kansas City Chiefs to edge past the Baltimore Ravens, and it’s interesting because The Chiefs did advance in real life whilst The Ravens didn’t! However, they never played each other!

In my first NFC Divisional Round matchup, I had the Dallas Cowboys to beat the Green Bay Packers! All I’m going to say is this is a really poor Prediction! In my other NFC Divisional Round game, I had the San Francisco 49ers to move past the Detroit Lions, and the only reason this isn’t as bad of a Prediction is the fact that The Lions did in fact lose at this stage!

Conference Championship

In the AFC Championship, I had the Kansas City Chiefs to host the New York Jets! Now we already know that The Jets didn’t make it this far, but I was correct about having The Chiefs win yet another AFC Championship so that’s at least something!

In the NFC Championship, I had the San Francisco 49ers to host and beat the Dallas Cowboys! This has to go down as one of my worst Predictions for a while, both of these teams sucked in 2024, they weren’t close to making the Playoffs, and I honestly think I just cursed them!

Super Bowl LIX

Yes, at the start of the 2024 NFL Season, I predicted that we would get yet another Super Bowl clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers! In some way, you could say that me picking The 49ers to win would’ve been worse, but it actually meant I was wrong with The Chiefs as I expected them to do a record-breaking 3-peat, but that just didn’t happen! Also, it’s worth mentioning that if I flipped my Super Bowl 58 and 59 Predictions around, I’d be spot on for both (which sums it up)!

Note: Thank you to everyone who’s read this article or followed along with any of my NFL Articles in 2024/2025, and congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles for winning Super Bowl LIX!
