Ranking the 32 Starting Quarterbacks Heading into the 2024 NFL Season

It’s been a while, but with the Regular Season less than 2 months away, it’s time to talk about American Football once again! In this article, I will rank the 32 Starting Quarterbacks heading into the 2024 NFL Season!

32nd: Sam Darnold (Minnesota Vikings)

Whilst it’s unclear who the Minnesota Vikings will start at Quarterback in Week 1, I’ve got a feeling they will go with experience over youth. Sam Darnold has been in the NFL for 6 seasons now, and his record as a starting Quarterback is 21-35 which isn’t exactly great. Darnold’s overall career Passer Rating is only 78.3 which is pretty poor, and whilst he may get the chance to prove himself at the start of the year, Sam’s going to need to be on it if he wants any chance of not dropping to the bench!

31st: Bryce Young (Carolina Panthers)

Bryce Young had a lot of expectations on him after going first in the 2023 NFL Draft, but his Rookie Season didn’t go to plan at all. Bryce Young lost 14 of his 16 games as a Starter and his Passer Rating for the season was just 73.7! It was actually quite worrying to watch Young at times, and that’s why he’s dropped a massive 7 places in my Rankings from last year! It’s now important for Bryce Young to deliver this year, cause he’s only going to get so many chances.

30th: Daniel Jones (New York Giants)

Daniel Jones has a lot to prove heading into his 6th season in the league! Daniel Jones was unlucky with injuries last year, but he still lost 5 of his 6 games as a starter and his Passer Rating was a pretty woeful 70.5! In his whole career, Jones has a 22-36-1 record and his overall Passer Rating is at 85.2 which in itself isn’t great. It’s also worth mentioning that Dan Jones has dropped two places in my Rankings from last year, and it feels like he has to play better this year if he wants to remain a Starting Quarterback for years to come.

29th: Will Levis (Tennessee Titans)

After being selected in the 2nd Round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Will Levis had to wait his turn before getting the opportunity to lead the Tennessee Titans’ offense. Will Levis had a 3-6 record in his 9 games as a starter, and he finished his Rookie year with a Passer Rating of 84.2. The one bit of praise I can and will give Levis is he had double the amount of Touchdowns compared to Interceptions (8-4), but he also needs to start this year strong.

28th: Anthony Richardson (Indianapolis Colts)

After having surgery early on in his Rookie Season, Anthony Richardson is ready and raring to go as the leader of the Indianapolis Colts. Anthony Richardson was selected 4th overall by The Colts in 2023, but he unfortunately picked up an injury in Week 5 which saw him miss the whole rest of the season. However, it’s worth mentioning that Richardson did win 2 of his 4 games as a starter and his 87.3 QBR is something he will look to build on going forward. Oh and finally, Anthony’s moved up 4 places from my Rankings last year.

27th: Drake Maye (New England Patriots)

After the Mac Jones project failed, the New England Patriots will start again with Rookie QB Drake Maye. Drake Maye was selected as the third-overall pick in this year’s Draft after having a Passer Rating of 154.1 in his 3 years in College. There will definitely be pressure on Maye to hit the ground running given the history at The Patriots, but there’s no reason why Maye can’t start strongly!

26th: Bo Nix (Denver Broncos)

Bo Nix may have been the last Quarterback selected in the First Round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean that he’s the weakest of the 6! Bo Nix spent 5 years playing in College, at both the Auburn Tigers and the Oregon Ducks, and his overall QBR stands at 149.6. However, it is worth mentioning that Nix had a great 2023, ended up with a Passer Rating of 188.3 which is very good indeed! Whilst Bo isn’t a guaranteed starter for the Denver Broncos heading into Week 1, it feels like an absolute no-brainer to me!

25th: Jayden Daniels (Washington Commanders)

Jayden Daniels enters the NFL as the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner! Jayden Daniels spent 5 years in College, with three years at Arizona State and two at LSU. In those 5 years, Daniels’ average Passer Rating was 158.4, but last year was when he really shined as Jayden managed a record-breaking 208.0 QBR whilst also having a 10:1 Touchdown-to-Interception ratio! Daniels was ultimately selected second overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, and if he can get firing early, Jayden Daniels could have one heck of an NFL Career!

24th: Caleb Williams (Chicago Bears)

“With the first pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select Caleb Williams, Quarterback, USC!” Caleb Williams had a strong three years in College, averaging a QBR of 169.3, but what impresses me the most is Williams’ consistency. This may explain why The Bears decided to go with Williams as the Number 1 pick, and it will be interesting to see if Caleb Williams can remain consistently good for years to come!

23rd: Gardner Minshew (Las Vegas Raiders)

Gardner Minshew’s efforts with the Indianapolis Colts last year, he may well just have a chance at starting for the Las Vegas Raiders going forward! Gardner Minshew has been in the NFL for 5 years now, and his starting record stands at 15-22. It’s hard to really know how well Minshew did last year (I don’t think a Passer Rating of 84.6 tells the whole story), but in terms of his overall career QBR, that stands at 90.2 which isn’t terrible, but it’s not great either. Still, I think Minshew is The Raiders best QB heading into the new season and they probably should start him as a result!

22nd: Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Baker Mayfield is a very weird player when it comes to my Quarterback Rankings! Baker Mayfield did better than usual last year, ending up with a Passer Rating of 94.6 as he guided the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Divisional Round appearance (and he played awfully well during the Playoffs too)! However, Mayfield’s overall career QBR over 7 seasons is just 88.1 and he has a negative 40-46 record as a starter so when you look at it from that perspective, he’s not the best. However, due to Baker’s 2023 plus the fact that there are a lot of Rookies this year, Baker Mayfield has managed to climb up 7 spots in my Rankings which is actually pretty damn good!

21st: Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams)

Matthew Stafford is about to enter his 16th year in the National Football League! Matthew Stafford had a solid year last year, winning 9 of his 15 games as starting Quarterback (with a Passer Rating of 92.5) for the Los Angeles Rams before he played really well in the Playoffs (even though they ultimately lost to the Detroit Lions). In terms of his overall career though, Stafford has a 98-107-1 record as a starter, and his career QBR stands at 91.0. I don’t think my opinions really changed on Matthew Stafford’s ability, to be honest, and that’s why he’s only dropped down 1 place from last year.

20th: Deshaun Watson (Cleveland Browns)

This feels like a “now or never” season for Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson had another season plagued with injury last year, starting just 6 games and having a Passer Rating of only 84.3! However, Watson does have a pretty impressive record, most notably a career QBR of 100.8! All of that is amazing, but Deshaun Watson hasn’t been at all good since he came back after a year out of the league, and that’s why he’s dropped 5 places in my Rankings.

19th: Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars)

It’s honestly really hard to know how good Trevor Lawrence is! Trevor Lawrence went 8-8 as a Starting Quarterback last year with a QBR of 88.5! Over his whole career, Lawrence has a starting record of just 20-30 and an average Passer Rating of 85.0 which isn’t exactly great. This might be a little harsh, but I’m not convinced that Trevor Lawrence is as good as he should be, and that’s why he’s dropped down 7 places in my Rankings!

18th: Geno Smith (Seattle Seahawks)

Geno Smith is looking to end the 2024 NFL Season with a third-straight Pro Bowl appearance (unless he makes the Super Bowl of course). Geno Smith dropped off a little bit last year with a 92.1 QBR, but he was still much better than his earlier careers in the league (before he joined the Seattle Seahawks). Whilst Smith’s overall QBR is only 86.6, you have to take into account that Geno’s 4 years in Seattle average out at a Passer Rating of 97.6 which is much stronger! However, there are still more exciting players in the league which is why Geno Smith has dropped 1 place from last year’s 17th.

17th: Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals)

Kyler Murray is looking to prove this year why he is a great Quarterback in the National Football League! Kyler Murray spent most of last year injured, but he did end up starting 8 games (he won 3 of them) and his Passer Rating for the season stood at 89.4. Over his 5 years in the league, Murray has a 28-36-1 record and his career QBR is 92.2! The thing is, I think Kyler Murray can be great, but he’s only really shown that consistently in 1 of his 5 seasons in the league which is why he’s dropped 3 places from last year’s 14th spot!

16th: Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles)

I’m not as convinced by Jalen Hurts' ability to win as I was this time last year! Jalen Hurts went 11-6 (in the Regular Season) as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Starting Quarterback last year and his Passer Rating for the year was 89.1. To be fair to Hurts, he is 34-17 as a starter in his career, but even then his Passer Rating is only at 91.1! That’s decent, but it’s not Playoff level which is why Jalen’s dropped 7 places in my Rankings (that’s a lot)!

15th: Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers)

Jordan Love is officially the “Biggest Riser” in my NFL Quarterback Rankings! Jordan Love helped the Green Bay Packers to a winning record last season whilst having a Passer Rating of 96.1, and he also impressed massively in the Playoffs! Over his whole career, Love is 9-9 as a starter, but his QBR stands at a good 94.0! Ultimately, Jordan Love did everything that I wanted to see from him when I wrote about him last year, and that’s why he’s risen a massive 16 places from 2023!

14th: Derek Carr (New Orleans Saints)

Derek Carr is hoping to go one step further this year and guide the New Orleans Saints back to the Playoffs! Derek Carr had a good year last year, winning more games than he lost whilst having a season Passer Rating of 97.7! Over his 10-year career, Carr has a starting record of 72-87 and a QBR of 92.3! I rate Derek Carr, he’s actually moved up 4 places from my Rankings last year, but whether that’s because of him or others is an entirely different debate!

13th: Jared Goff (Detroit Lions)

Jared Goff has once again risen well in my Quarterback Rankings! Jared Goff had a good season last year, winning 12 of his 17 starts in the Regular Season as he guided the Detroit Lions back to the Playoffs! Goff’s QBR last year was 97.9, and his Passer Rating over his entire career stands at 93.6! Again, I don’t rate Jared Goff as an incredible Quarterback or anything like that, but he’s been strong the past two years and that’s why he’s risen another 6 places from last year!

12th: Justin Herbert (Los Angeles Chargers)

After two decent but not amazing years, Justin Herbert has dropped quite a few places in my QB Rankings! Justin Herbert suffered an injury late last season, but he only won 5 of his 13 games as a starter and his season Passer Rating totalled out at 93.2. Herbert’s overall QBR is 95.7 which is good, but it’s not enough to be seen as a true elite Quarterback which is why Justin has dropped 7 places from last year!

11th: Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills)

Josh Allen needs an MVP-like season this year! Josh Allen had an alright year last year, guiding the Buffalo Bills to another Division Title, but his Passer Rating for the whole year only averaged out at 92.2. In fact, Allen’s career QBR is only 92.2, and I’m using the word only because it feels like it should be a lot higher given how highly The Bills’ Number 17 is rated! If Josh can have an amazing year this year, he’ll be right up there, but for now, Allen’s also had to drop 7 places in my Quarterback Rankings!

10th: C. J. Stroud (Houston Texans)

I ranked C. J. Stroud the highest out of the Rookies last year, and my goodness was that the right way to go! C. J. Stroud had an amazing Rookie year, having a Passer Rating of 100.8 as he guided the Houston Texans to an NFC South Title! Stroud also won Offensive Rookie of the Year, and he was quite brilliant in the Playoffs! Whilst I can’t put C. J. too high given he’s only played one year, he has risen up 13 places from last year’s Rankings, and another strong year and he’ll be pushing Top 5!

9th: Russell Wilson (Pittsburgh Steelers)

After a difficult stint with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson looks to go again as the new leader of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Offense! Russell Wilson actually did well last year, ending up with a Passer Rating of 98.0, but it still wasn’t enough for The Broncos to want to keep him! Over Wilson’s 12-year career, he has a starting record of 115-72-1, and his QBR is exactly 100.0! I still rate Russell Wilson highly, and even though he's dropped two places from my Rankings last year (because of others rising or breaking out), Russell deserves a spot in my Top 10!

8th: Kirk Cousins (Atlanta Falcons)

The Atlanta Falcons might just have pulled a blinder with the signing of Kirk Cousins! Kirk Cousins was really unlucky to get injured midway through last year because he was having a brilliant year that ultimately resulted in a Passer Rating of 103.8! Over his career, Cousins has a QBR of 98.2 which is seriously impressive given he struggled early on in his career! So for me, Kirk Cousins is a really underrated Quarterback, and that’s why he’s risen 5 places from last year’s 13th!

7th: Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens)

Lamar Jackson is ready and raring to go after winning MVP last season! Lamar Jackson had a really strong year last year, winning 13 of his 16 games as a starter in the Regular Season and ending up with a very impressive 102.7 Passer Rating! Over his career, Jackson has a great 58-19 record in his 77 starts and his career QBR stands at 98.0. So overall, Lamar Jackson is an impressive Quarterback, and that’s why he’s moved up 3 places in my Rankings this year!

6th: Joe Burrow (Cincinnati Bengals)

Joe Burrow is looking to get back to his best after an injury-troubled 2023! Joe Burrow suffered quite a lot with injuries last season and it ultimately meant he only started 10 games and finished up with a 91.0 Passer Rating. Burrow’s overall career has been better though, with a starting record of 29-22-1 and a career QBR of 98.6. I rate Joe Burrow, I think he’s very, very good, but his tough 2023 combined with others rising is why he’s dropped 3 places from last year’s third!

5th: Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys)

When he really needed a strong season, Dak Prescott delivered! Dak Prescott had his best year in the league last year, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 12-5 record whilst also having an incredible 105.9 QBR! In his 8 years in the league, Prescott is 73-41 as a starter and his career Passer Rating stands at a strong 99.0! I was really impressed with Dak last year, and that’s why he’s risen 6 to a Top 5 spot in my 2024 QB Rankings!

4th: Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins)

Another impressive season from Tua Tagovailoa earns him a spot at Number 4! Tua Tagovailoa guided the Miami Dolphins to an 11-6 record as he ended the Regular Season with a strong 101.1 QBR! Over his entire career, Tagovailoa is 32-19 as a starter and his career Passer Rating over his 4 years in the league stands at 97.1! Whilst Tua’s performance in the Playoffs last year was a bit underwhelming (to say the least), you can’t deny that this kid’s got talent which is why he’s climbed another 2 places from 2023!

3rd: Brock Purdy (San Francisco 49ers)

Brock Purdy debuts in my Quarterback Rankings with a spot on the Podium! Brock Purdy guided the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl last season and his Passer Rating in the Regular Season stood at a quite ridiculous 113.0! Purdy is 17-4 in his 21 starts in the National Football League, and his career QBR currently stands at a whopping 111.4! I mean, that’s quite extraordinary, and I honestly can’t see a reason why Brock shouldn’t be this high!

2nd: Aaron Rodgers (New York Jets)

I think it took me longer to write about Aaron Rodgers last year than he actually played in his debut year with the New York Jets! After all of the hype heading into the 2023 NFL Season, Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury just 4 snaps into the season, meaning he is still yet to have a proper go as the leader of The Jets’ offense! In fairness, Rodgers is still a superb talent, he’s about to enter his 20th season in the league with a career Passer Rating of 103.6, and that is why I simply couldn’t change his position from last year’s Rankings!

1st: Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs)

For the second straight year, Patrick Mahomes is a cut above the rest when it comes to Quarterbacks in the National Football League! Patrick Mahomes didn’t actually have the best Regular Season, a Passer Rating of 92.6 showed that, but he still managed to guide his team to another Super Bowl victory as he took home his third Super Bowl MVP award too! In his 7 years in the league, Mahomes is 74-22 as a starter in the Regular Season, and his career QBR stands at an amazing 103.5! There’s simply no one on Patrick Mahomes’ level, and that’s why he’ll probably remain as my Number 1 for plenty of years to come!
