Tottenham 6-2 Leicester
Heung-Min Son’s hattrick capped off what has been a pretty great first stint for Spurs this season. Youri Tielemans penalty was originally saved by Hugo Lloris but after watching the replay, you could clearly see that Lloris didn’t have his feet on the line. Due to this, the penalty was retaken and this, Youri Tielemans put Leicester 1-0 up. It didn’t matter too much though as just 2 minutes later; Harry Kane levelled the game for the hosts. Spurs then scored another header from a set piece but this time, it was Eric Dier. Leicester were then back level before halftime after a lovely finish from James Maddison. Wilfred Ndidi, one of Leicester’s best players, then made a terrible error which aloud Rodrigo Bentancur to put Spurs back in front. In the 73rd minute, Heung-Min Son finally got his first goal of the season with a brilliant strike. He then managed a second goal which was arguably even better. And then, just two minutes later, Son completed his 13-minute hattrick. What a player, what a performance, what a team. Spurs stay third in the table, just 1 point behind leaders Arsenal who they face straight after the international break in what promises to be one of the biggest and best North London Derby’s in a long time. As for Leicester, they suffered their 6th successive loss in the Premier League, and they are still yet to win a game inside 90 minutes this season. Leicester are still bottom of the table and it’s starting to look really concerning for Brendan Rodgers and his side. Leicester host Nottingham Forest after the break in a game that they absolutely need to get a result in as otherwise, Rodgers is finished.
Nottingham Forest 2-3 Fulham
Fulham completely changed the game within six minutes to move them into the European spots. Off a corner, Taiwo Awoniyi put the ball home from the back post to put Nottingham Forest in front. In the 54th minute, Fulham responded with a corner of their own as Tosin Adarabioyo headed the ball in from about 10 yards out. Then, just three minutes later, Joao Palhinha scored with a super strike to put the visitors in front. Fulham were then in dream-street as Harrison Reed scored in the 60th minute, meaning Fulham had scored three goals in just six minutes. Lewis O’Brien’s 77th minute strike gave Forest some hope of getting a result, but it just wasn’t mean to be for Steve Cooper’s side. Forest have now lost their last 4 games and they sit 19th in the table. They face Leicester next in a bottom of the table clash. As for Fulham, this was another good win, and they now sit 6th in the table. Marco Silva’s men host Newcastle after the international break in what should be a pretty good game.
Brentford 0-3 Arsenal
Arsenal insured that they would go into the first international break top of the Premier League. William Saliba put the visitors in front before Gabriel Jesus doubled their advantage inside 28 minutes. Both goals were headers. Fabio Viera then finished the game off in the 49th minute with a brilliant strike which hit the post and went in. The only disappointment for Arsenal is the fact that they didn’t score more but to be fair to David Raya, he pulled off some great saves to keep it at 3-0. This definitely didn’t go how Brentford had hoped or planned and they will need to reflect on this game before they travel to Bournemouth in two weeks' time. They still sit 9th though which is pretty good. As for Arsenal, this was another excellent win which sees them stay at the top of the table going into the first international break. When they return, they host Tottenham Hotspur in a game that will really test just how good both sides are.
Wolves 0-3 Manchester City
Erling Haaland scored his 14th goal of the season as Manchester City breezed past Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manchester City took the lead with just 55 seconds on the clock as Jack Grealish stuck his leg out and glided the ball home to give his side the perfect start. Then, in the 16th minute, Erling Haaland was given way too much space by the Wolves defenders and that gave him the time he needed to guide the ball into the back of the net from outside the box. Just to make things even worse for Wolves, Nathan Collins committed a horrible tackle onto Jack Grealish and he saw straight red because of it. City best goal came in the 67th minute as after some nice play from Erling Haaland, KDB put in a lovely low cross and Phil Foden smartly placed the ball home. For Wolves, they knew this game was going to be tough but there were basically no positives that they can take from this game. They were poor and didn’t create anything. Wolves drop back down to 17th, and they play away to fellow underperformers West Ham when the Premier League returns. City can be really happy with another positive performance that keeps them within a point of league leaders Arsenal. City host United next time out in the Manchester derby.
Newcastle 1-1 Bournemouth
Newcastle United had 72% possession but they still weren’t able to topple the Cherries in a game which finished 1 all. In the first half, Kieran Trippier hit another lovely free kick but sadly for him, his shot hit the post and went wide. Joelinton then had 2 great chances, the first one hit the post and his second chance was saved well by Neto and straight after this, Neto pulled out another good stop to keep the game at 0-0. Then, in the 62nd minute, Phillip Billing put the visitors into a shock lead. Sadly, for them, it didn’t last as after a handball, Aleksandar Isak smashed the ball home from the spot to level the game. Newcastle will be slightly disappointed that they didn’t come out of the game with all 3 points. Newcastle have now drawn 3 of their 4 home games and sit 10th in the table. Next time out, they go to London to play Fulham. As for Bournemouth, they will be very happy with a point. It means they stay level on points with Newcastle but due to their terrible goal difference, they sit 12th which I’m pretty certain they are happy about. Bournemouth’s next game sees them host Brentford on the 1st of October.
Everton 1-0 West Ham
Everton were finally able to get their first league win of the season at home to West Ham United. There weren’t a great number of chances in the first half but then, in the 53rd minute, Neal Maupay scored his first Everton goal to send the home crowd wild. West Ham came close with Soucek, Said Benrahma hit the post and Maxwell Cornet had a couple of small chances but in the end, the Hammers couldn’t find a way to put the ball into the back of the net and Everton were able to celebrate getting all 3 points for the first time. It’s crazy really that Everton are unbeaten since the second game of the season, and they now sit 13th on 7 points. The Toffees face Southampton away next time out. As for West Ham, the momentum they were starting to build is already starting to die off. They sit 18th in the table and host 17th place Wolves next time out in a must win game.
Aston Villa 1-0 Southampton
Aston Villa earnt a very important victory at home to Southampton on Friday Night Football. After a few attempts, Jacob Ramsey managed to finally get the ball over the line and put Aston Villa in front. Right before half time, Leon Bailey came close, and Douglas Luiz attempted to score another direct corner goal, but it didn’t work out as well for him on this occasion. Southampton’s game was then summed up as in additional time, Adam Armstrong poorly headed the ball wide in what was Southampton’s only real chance. Aston Villa needed this win and 4 points out of a possible six definitely makes them look a bit better. They’ve now moved up to 15th place and they face Leeds at Elland Road after the international break. As for Southampton, they were really poor in this game, particularly when it came to creating good chances. They’ve now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Midlands, and they sit 14th place with 7 points. Luckily for them, they don’t have to play in the Midlands next time out as they host Everton in a lower-table clash.
