Bournemouth 1-4 Manchester City
Manchester City picked up a much-needed win to stay within two points off league leaders Arsenal. After a nice move that saw Erling Haaland hit the crossbar, Julian Alvarez was there to tap home and give Manchester City the lead inside 15 minutes. City were then 2-0 up 15 minutes later as Erling Haaland scored to put the Cityzens in command. Man City then continued their run of scoring every 15 minutes as Phil Foden capitalised off of a poor pass from Philip Billing by putting the ball past Neto and sending City into the break 3-0 to the good. 6 minutes into the second half, Julian Alvarez smashed the ball across the box and the ball went off of Chris Mepham and into the back of the Cherries net meaning City were now four in front. With less than 10 minutes to go, Jefferson Lerma finished off well to give the home crowd something to cheer about. In the end, it was still not a very good day for Bournemouth. They’ve dropped back down into the relegation zone (19th place) and it doesn’t get any easier for the Cherries as they go to Arsenal this Saturday. As for Manchester City, this was a good result for them, but they’ll still be annoyed at themselves for not keeping a clean sheet. City stay in second place, two points off the top, and they play away to Bristol City in the FA Cup tomorrow night.
West Ham 4-0 Nottingham Forest
West Ham picked up a huge win to move themselves out of the relegation zone. West Ham nearly took the lead in the first half after a deflected effort off of the Nottingham Forest defender, but it hit the post and went out for a corner. In the second half, West Ham came close to taking the lead, but it was now Jarrod Bowen’s turn to hit the post. However, West Ham were able to take the lead in the 70th minute through Danny Ings. Just 3 minutes later, West Ham got their second as Danny Ings scored again! In the 78th minute, Declan Rice made it 3-0 with a beautiful strike and Michael Antonio then went and got on the act (after being on the pitch less than a minute) to give West Ham a huge victory over Nottingham Forest. Overall, what a great day for the Hammers. West Ham move up into 16th place and they play away to Carabao Cup Champions Manchester United in the FA Cup on Wednesday. As for Nottingham Forest, this was a pretty horrendous day for them. Forest stay 13th and they host Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea
Tottenham picked up an important win against struggling London rivals Chelsea. In the first half, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s effort deflected off of Wesley Fofana and hit the post. After a bit of a scuffle before halftime, Hakim Ziyech was shown a straight red card. However, the ref went to the monitor and overturned the decision to a yellow card. Right at the start of the second half, Oliver Skipp scored with a bullet strike to put Tottenham in front. Even though it was a great strike, I do think Kepa should’ve done better. In the 82nd minute, Harry Kane was there at the back post to tap home to seal the 3 points for Spurs. In the end, this was a good result for Tottenham and it sees them stay in 4th place. Their next game sees them play away to Sheffield United in the FA Cup 5th round. As for Chelsea, it’s yet another defeat and it sees them just about stay inside the top half of the table. They host Leeds in the league on Saturday.
Everton 0-2 Aston Villa
Jordan Pickford pulled out a nice stop to deny Ollie Watkins from putting Aston Villa ahead in the first half before Neal Maupay had a good chance to put Everton one-nil up. Amadou Onana then had a good chance for the hosts, but he was well denied by Emiliano Martinez. In the second half, Maupay came close again, but his effort was cleared off the line by Tyrone Mings. Ollie Watkins then had a glorious chance to put his side in front, but Pickford pulled out a brilliant save to tip the ball onto the post. In the 63rd minute, Villa were awarded a penalty after Idrissa Gana Gueye brought down Emiliano Buendia (I’m not so sure about this decision) and Ollie Watkins smashed the ball down the middle to give Villa the lead. And then, in the 81st minute, Emi Buendia scored a really nice goal to rap up the victory for the away side. In the end, this wasn’t the result that Everton were after. The Toffees have dropped back into the relegation zone (18th) and they play away to Arsenal in the league this Wednesday. As for Aston Villa, this was an important win for them as they stay 11th. Villa’s next game sees them host Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Fulham 1-1 Wolves
In the 23rd minute, Wolverhampton Wanderers took the lead through a really nice finish by Pablo Sarabia. Fulham created a few half chances during the first half, but it lead nowhere meaning Wolves went into the break in front. However, Fulham were able to get their equaliser through a brilliant strike by Manor Solomon. In additional time at the end of the game, Vinicius thought he’d won the game for Fulham, but his headed effort was superbly tipped wide by Jose Sa. In the end, it’s an ok result for Fulham, but it has hurt their top 4 chances. Fulham stay 6th in the table and they host Leeds in the FA Cup tomorrow. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they can be happy with a point from this game. Wolves currently sit 15th in the table and they play away to Liverpool in the league on Wednesday.
Leicester 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal picked up a good away victory to remain top of the Premier League. Leandro Trossard thought he’d put Arsenal in front with a beautiful strike, but VAR ruled it out after Ben White was seen holding onto the Leicester goalkeeper. After less than a minute played in the second half, Gabriel Martinelli finished expertly to give the Gunners the lead at the King Power Stadium. Bukayo Saka then put the ball into the back of the net for the visitors, but his effort was ruled out for offside. In the end, it’s back-to-back games without a goal for Leicester and they sit 14th in the table as a result of it. The Foxes host Blackburn in the FA Cup tomorrow. As for Arsenal, this was one of those wins that Arsenal will look back on if they win the Premier League this season. The Gunners sit two points ahead of Manchester City at the top and they play their game in hand against Everton on Wednesday.
Leeds 1-0 Southampton
Leeds picked up a big win over Southampton to move outside of the relegation zone. Stuart Armstrong had a decent chance for Southampton in the first half, but his effort was really poor. Leeds had so many chances in the first half, but they didn’t take any of them. However, in the 77th minute, Junior Firpo put the hosts in front after a really poor goalkeeping mistake by Gavin Bazunu. Crysencio Summerville then had a great chance to wrap up the 3 points for Leeds, but his effort went just wide off the goal. In the end, this was the result that Leeds United needed. It’s sees them move up into 17th place and they play away to Fulham tomorrow night in the FA Cup. As for Southampton, this loss will hurt them as it sees them stay bottom of the Premier League. The Saints’ next game is at home to League 2 Grimsby in the FA Cup.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool
Trent Alexander-Arnold made a poor mistake for Liverpool, but luckily for him, Jean-Philippe Mateta’s finish was awful. Diogo Jota hit the post for Liverpool whilst Marc Guehi really should’ve put Crystal Palace in front. Alexander-Arnold then made another poor mistake, but Mateta could only hit the crossbar this time. In the second half, Mohamed Salah came close for the Reds, but his effort hit the bar and came out. Cody Gakpo then had a good chance for Liverpool, but he put his effort wide off the mark. In the end, Palace will take a point, but it’s yet another game without a win for Patrick Viera’s men. Palace stay in 12th and they go to Aston Villa next time out. As for Liverpool, it’s another disappointing result for them and it sees them move up into 7th place. They host Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday.
