Premier League Preview: Gameweek 9

Bournemouth VS Leicester

AFC Bournemouth earnt themselves a point at home to Brentford last time out and sit in a pretty good 13th place in the table. Leicester City finally found their talent last week and ended up thrashing Nottingham Forest by 4 goals to nil. They still sit 19th though so they need to try and build on last week’s performance. In their last 12 games, Leicester have managed 4 wins whilst Bournemouth have won 3. Even though there have been quite a few draws between the two sides, the last 4 games have ended in one team taking all 3 points. For Bournemouth, they are unbeaten in their last 4 games but haven’t scored in their last 3 home games. As for Leicester, they are the 7th highest scorers this season but have also managed to concede the most goals. Another important thing to mention is that Leicester are yet to score any points away from home in the Premier League this year.

My Prediction: 0-2

Chelsea VS Wolves

Chelsea scored late on against Crystal Palace to earn all three points and also beat AC Milan 3-0 during the week. They sit 5th in the Premier League with a game in hand on the top 3. Wolverhampton Wanderers were poor last week and ended up losing 2-0 against West Ham and they now sit in the relegation zone. In their last 14 games, Chelsea have managed 7 wins whilst Wolves have earnt 3. All 3 of their last meetings have ended up in draws. For Chelsea, they are unbeaten in their last 8 home games and will want to make it 9. They should do anyway. As for Wolves, they have only scored 3 goals in 8 Premier League games and have also failed to score in their last 3 games away from home.

My Prediction: 1-0

Manchester City VS Southampton

Manchester City have played brilliantly against Manchester United and Copenhagen over the last week and will look to continue that. They sit second in the league, but I don’t think they are too bothered by that right now. Southampton aren’t as happy right now though as they came out on the losing side again at home to Everton last week. In their last 22 meetings, Manchester City have won 68% of their encounters whilst Southampton have won just 14%. However, in their 2 league games last season, the Saints took 4 points of the Cityzens so City know that they will have to work for all 3 points. For Manchester City, they have averaged 3.6 goals a game in the Premier League this season and Erling Haaland is determined to get his fourth consecutive Etihad hattrick (in the PL). As for Southampton, they have failed to score in their previous 2 Premier League away trips and haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 5 games. They know more than anyone just how tough this game is going to be.

My Prediction: 4-2

Newcastle VS Brentford

Newcastle finally found themselves a victory after thrashing Fulham 4-1 at Craven Cottage. They sit in a very positive 7th place, 1 point ahead of their opponents. Brentford would have been slightly frustrated with a 0-0 draw away to Bournemouth but they still sit 10th in the league. Since 2016, the teams have only met 5 times, with Newcastle winning 3 whilst the Bees have only managed the 1 win (Carabao Cup). In both of their league games last season, Joelinton found himself on the score sheet. For Newcastle, they are unbeaten in their last 8 home games and will look to continue their momentum. As for Brentford, they are ranked 6th in GPG but, they have failed to score in their last 2 outings. Both teams would love to win but both sides have become pretty use to taking home a point.

My Prediction: 1-1

Brighton VS Tottenham

4th hosts 3rd in what promises to be a really interesting game. In their first game under Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton earnt themselves a brilliant point away to Liverpool all thanks to a Leandro Trossard hattrick. It hasn’t been the greatest week for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, they comfortably lost 3-1 in the North London Derby and then they played out a goalless draw in Frankfurt. In their last 13 meetings, Spurs have won 69% of their meetings whilst Brighton have won 23%. Last season, they played each other 3 times in just over 2 months. For Brighton, they have averaged 2 goals a game and know that a win by 2 goals or more would move them ahead of Spurs and they have a game in hand! As for Tottenham, they have averaged 2.4 goals per game and are ranked third when it comes to shots on target per game. A loss would really hurt this Tottenham side.

My Prediction: 1-3

Crystal Palace VS Leeds

The first part of Super Sunday sees Crystal Palace host Leeds United at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace lost to Chelsea late on last week and have now failed to win in their last 4 games. They sit 17th, ahead of 18th due to goal difference. Leeds drew 0-0 to Aston Villa in their last game and they too have failed to win in their last 4 games. They sit in a solid 12th place. In their last 10 competitive meetings, Leeds have managed 5 wins whilst Palace have only won 2. For Crystal Palace, they have only managed 1 win in their league so far this season and need to make it 2. They have a game in hand over certain teams but that doesn’t change the fact that they have struggled. As for Leeds, they are yet to win in their last 5 away games, but they would love to end that run this Sunday.

My Prediction: 2-1

West Ham VS Fulham

West Ham have had a pretty good week. The Hammers pulled out an important victory at home to Wolves last week which has moved them up to 15th in the table whilst they then pulled out a good win in Anderlecht last night. Fulham have been really competitive this season, but they were thrashed by Newcastle last week. They sit 8th in the table though which is amazing. In their last 11 competitive meetings, West Ham have won 63% of them compared to Fulham’s 18%. Fulham’s last victory against the Hammers came all the way back in 2014! For West Ham, they are the second lowest scores in the Premier League, but they are definitely finding more goals recently. As for Fulham, their form in the league is loss, win, loss, win, loss, win so given that stat, surely, they are going to win this weekend? They do have a problem with keeping clean sheets though, they have failed to do so in their last 7 matches.

My Prediction: 2-0

Arsenal VS Liverpool

The league leaders face one of the preseason favourites in what promises to be a really exciting encounter. Arsenal were excellent against Spurs last week, they sent out a message to the rest of the league that they aren’t messing around. Liverpool played in a really exciting 3-3 draw last week at home to Brighton. So far, the season hasn’t gone how Liverpool would have wanted or expected as they sit 9th in the table, 11 points off first (with a game in hand). In their last 30 games, Liverpool have won 12, 12 games have ended in draws whilst Arsenal have only won 6. Arsenal have failed to win against Liverpool in their last 8 games (within 90 minutes). For Arsenal, they have averaged 2.5 goals per game this season and have an 100% record at home this year. A win here really would post them as a championship contender. As for Liverpool, they have averaged 2.6 goals per game and are yet to win away from home in the league this season. A loss here would be a real disaster for Liverpool but a win, could really start their season.

My Prediction: 4-2

Everton VS Manchester United

Everton host Manchester United at Goodison Park, Live on BT Sport. Everton earnt an excellent win away to Southampton last week and they now sit 11th in the table. Manchester United were comfortably second best against local rivals Manchester City and they only just beat Cyprus side Omonia Nicosia last night. In their last 28 games, Man United have won 46% of them whilst Everton have won 21% of the time. Everton won this matchup last season. For Everton, they haven’t lost in their last 7 games and would love to make it 3 wins in a row. As for United, they have conceded 2 goals a game but have also managed 11 goals in their last 5 games. United will look to bounce back this weekend.

My Prediction: 1-2

Nottingham Forest VS Aston Villa

Nottingham Forest take part in their second Monday Night Football game in a row. It can’t be much worse than last week's performance as they were stuffed by Leicester City last time out. That loss has moved them to the bottom of the table. Aston Villa went to Leeds and took home a point which means they come into the weekend sitting in 14th place. In their last 8 meetings, Villa have managed 3 wins compared to Forest’s 2. The last time these two teams played each other in the Premier League came all the way back in 1999 were Villa won 2-0. For Notts Forest, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 5 games and also, they have lost all 5 of them. As for Aston Villa, they are ranked 16th in GPG and have earnt themselves 5 points in their last 3 games. A win here for Villa would put them in a pretty decent position.

My Prediction: 0-2
