Premier League Preview: Gameweek 7

Aston Villa VS Southampton

After a week off, the Premier League returns as Aston Villa host Southampton live on Sky Sports. Aston Villa last game was a positive one as the draw 1 all with Manchester City whilst Southampton lost to Wolves. Aston Villa currently sit 17th with 4 points whilst Southampton have 1 more win and sit 12th. In their previous 15 meetings, Southampton have won 9 of their games whilst Villa have only won 3. Aston Villa did win 4-0 in this fixture last season though. Their also has been a draw between the two sides in their last seven encounters. Neither team has been particularly great in the attacking areas of the pitch but also, neither team has kept a clean sheet yet. This would be an important victory for Aston Villa whilst a win for Southampton would put them in a pretty decent place heading into the international break.

My Prediction: 1-2

Nottingham Forest VS Fulham

Another game that takes place tonight sees the Championship Playoff final winners take on the Championship champions. Nottingham Forest suffered a poor loss at home to Bournemouth 2 weeks ago whilst Fulham played well in a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. Forest currently sit 19th whilst Fulham sit 10th which shows the differences between the two of the promoted sides. Crazily enough, this is the first time that the two sides have ever faced each other in the Premier League. In their last 3 meetings at the City Ground, Fulham have won all of them with an aggregate score of 8-1. Mitrovic scored twice in this fixture last season and will hope for the same tonight. Notts Forest need to get a win as otherwise, they’ll be heading into the international break with 4 straight losses. As for Fulham, they will be hoping to win this game. Given their start to the season, it would be slightly disappointing if they didn’t leave Nottingham with all 3 points.

My Prediction: 0-2

Wolves VS Manchester City

The biggest game in my family takes place as Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Manchester City at the Molineux. Wolves come into the game in 14th place after their first win of the season last time out against Southampton. Since City’s 1 all draw with Villa, they have won both of their Champions League games, so they definitely have good momentum again. In their last 15 meetings, City have won 60% of the games whilst Wolves have won 20%. In this fixture last season, Kevin De Bruyne scored 4 goals in a 5-1 victory. City have won their last 4 meetings but, Wolves did do the double over them in the 2019/20 season. Wolves have really struggled to put the ball into the back of the net but, they have the best defence in the league. That will very much be tested tomorrow though as Manchester City have the best attack in the league. Also, only 5 teams have scored more goals than Erling Haaland! Should be an interesting game.

My Prediction: 1-3

Newcastle VS Bournemouth

Newcastle host Bournemouth in the only 3’oclock Kickoff in the Premier League. Newcastle sit 11th after a 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace whilst Bournemouth sit 13th after a brilliant second half win away to Nottingham Forest. Both sides are on 7 points. In their last 8 matches, Newcastle have won 4 of them whilst Bournemouth have won 2. Newcastle have won both of their last two meetings at St. James’ Park 2-1. For Newcastle, they need to be winning this game if they have aspirations of fighting for a spot in Europe. As for Bournemouth, they aren’t expected to get a result here which makes them dangerous. A concern for them is the fact that they only average 2 shots on target per game.

My Prediction: 1-0

Tottenham Hotspur VS Leicester City

Saturday Night Football sees Antonio Conte’s Tottenham host Brendan Rodgers Leicester. Spurs won in their last league match but, they lost to Sporting Lisbon earlier on in the week. As for Leicester, they lost 5-2 in Brighton last time out. Since the 2014/15 season, Spurs have won 11 of the 19 meetings whilst Leicester have won 5. Their definitely tends to be goals in these games with 19 matches seeing 72 goals. Spurs sit third in the table and have an 100% record at home this season and they also average 2 goals a game which is pretty good. This is a game Spurs should be winning if they aim to be contenders at the very top of the table. Leicester, on the other hand, sit bottom of the league and have only earnt 1 point. Leicester will try to get a result, but the most important thing is that they don’t get thrashed. Could easily happen though.

My Prediction: 4-0

Brentford VS Arsenal

Brentford VS Arsenal is definitely the most exciting game coming into the weekend. Brentford beat Leeds 5-2 a couple of weeks ago and they sit in a very positive 8th place. As for Arsenal, they suffered their first defeat last time out in the league, but they did win in the Europa League. They still sit top of the league though so they can’t be too annoyed. Last year, Brentford pulled off one of their greatest results when they beat Arsenal in their first ever Premier League game. The Bees have a very good record at home and will look to continue this run-on Sunday. It would be another huge win if they were able to accomplish it. As for Arsenal, they have the best away record in the league and will aim to get another victory to keep them top of the table going into October.

My Prediction: 2-2

Everton VS West Ham

The final game of the weekend sees Everton host West Ham at Goodison Park. Everton sit 16th in the table on 4 points whilst West Ham also have 4 points but sit slightly lower in 18th. In their last 25 meetings, Everton have won 48% of the games whilst West Ham have won 24%. West Ham won both of the matches between the sides last season. This is a great opportunity for Everton to get their first win of the season, but a loss would be disappointing. As for West Ham, they have done better recently, and this creates a good opportunity to get 3 more points. A loss would hurt them though.

My Prediction: 0-2
