Premier League Preview: Gameweek 6

Everton VS Liverpool

The first game of the weekend sees Everton host Liverpool in the Merseyside derby. Everton come into the game sitting in 17th without a win. They drew 1 all away from home against Leeds in their last league match. As for Liverpool, they scored a very late winner to get all 3 points against Newcastle and they now sit in 6th place. In their last 27 meetings, Liverpool have won 13 of them whilst Everton have only won 2. Everton’s last home victory against their rivals came back in 2010 so they will be hoping to change that. This would be a big victory for Everton mentally because they would have a bit more belief that they can win games. As for Liverpool, they have averaged 3 goals a game and are on a 2-game winning streak. They have a very good record against their rivals and that should continue.

Prediction: 0-2

Brentford VS Leeds

Brentford host Leeds in a game between two sides that should be happy with how their seasons have started. Brentford are 11th in the table with 6 points after a 1 all draw away to Crystal Palace. Leeds sit 7th in the table after a 1-1 draw against Everton. In recent head-to-head meetings, Brentford have won 5 games, Leeds have won 4 and there has also been 5 draws. In this fixture last season, Leeds won to keep themselves in the league. Brentford have done well so far and have been a big threat in the attacking areas. Leeds have also been pretty good in both the attacking and defensive areas of the pitch. Should be a good game.

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea VS West Ham

A London derby takes place at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea host West Ham. Both teams have struggled compared to normal and Chelsea sit in 10th whilst West Ham sit in 14th, three points behind the Blues. Chelsea suffered a poor loss away to Southampton whilst West Ham will be pretty happy with a draw against Tottenham, even with it being at home. Since the 2010/11 season, Chelsea have won 52% of their meetings whilst West Ham have won 30%. West Ham’s last victory at Stamford Bridge came back in 2019. Chelsea haven’t started the season how they would have wanted but they are unbeaten in their last 5 home games and it’s a game that they need to win. As for West Ham, they have really struggled to score goals, but they have performed better in their last 2 games. If West Ham get out of this game with points, they should be very happy

Prediction: 1-1

Newcastle VS Crystal Palace

12th place Newcastle host 13th place Crystal Palace. Newcastle suffered their first loss of the season earlier this week against Liverpool with a 98th minute goal from the reds whilst Palace also conceded late on to draw with Brentford. In their last 17 meetings, Newcastle have double the number of victories than Crystal Palace. Newcastle will hope to get back into the win column and they are on a 6-game unbeaten run at St. James’ Park. As for Crystal Palace, they have looked pretty decent and Wilfred Zaha and Eberechi Eze have looked really sharp. A win here would be a big result for Patrick Viera’s team.

Prediction: 2-1

Nottingham Forest VS Bournemouth

Two promoted teams face off as Nottingham Forest host Bournemouth at the City Ground. Nottingham Forest where stuffed 6-0 away to Manchester City and they sit 15th in the table as a result of it. Bournemouth got a point in a nil-nil draw against Wolves, and they sit 1 position lower and level on points with Forest. In their last 9 meetings, Bournemouth have won 4 games whilst Forest have won 3. This is the first time that Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest will play against each other in the Premier League. Bournemouth have earnt 10 points in the previous four encounters between the teams so that’s a positive for Gary O’Neil and his team. Nottingham Forest have struggled in front of goal, and they will need to sort this out but, Dean Henderson has pulled out quite a few important saves which has helped them. Bournemouth have also really struggled in front of goal; they haven’t scored in the league since their opening day victory. This is a must win game for both teams as if they want to stay up, they have to win games like this.

Prediction: 0-0

Tottenham VS Fulham

Another London Derby takes place as Tottenham Hotspur host Fulham in a 3 o’clock kick off. Spurs dropped points away to West Ham on Wednesday, but they still sit third in the table which is very good. Fulham got a win at home to Brighton and have been really impressively so far this season. They sit 8th place with 8 points, only a win behind Spurs. Since the 2010/11 season, Spurs have dominated the victory column with 11 wins out of 14. Fulham’s last victory against Tottenham was at White Hart Lane back in 2013. Spurs will look to keep up their positive start to the season and have looked very solid in front of goal. As for Fulham, this isn’t a game that they should be winning but they’ve been superb so far this season, so you never know. Kane and Mitrovic could potentially be involved in a shootout.

Prediction: 3-2

Wolves VS Southampton

Wolverhampton Wanderers come into this game needing a victory. The Midlands side sit 18th in the table after a very disappointing goalless draw away to Bournemouth. As for Southampton, they will feel very happy right now after a brilliant win against Chelsea which sees them in the top half of the table. Since Wolves have been back in the Premier League, Wolves have won 5 of their 8 meetings. Southampton’s only victory came in 2019. They did beat Wolves more recently in the FA Cup. Wolves are unbeaten in their last 5 games at the Molineux, and they need to get a victory this weekend to boost everyone who is a part of that club. As for Southampton, a win here would keep up their positive start to the season.

Prediction: 1-1

Aston Villa VS Manchester City

Struggling Aston Villa host inform Manchester City on Saturday Night Football. Villa suffered another defeat on Wednesday, this time at Arsenal and they sit 19th in the table with one win and four losses. Manchester City come into the game after a comfortable 6-0 win at home to Nottingham Forest. In head-to-head meetings since the 2010/11 season, Manchester City have won 18 of the 22 matches whilst Villa have won 3. Manchester City have won the last 9 games between the two sides and Aston Villa’s last victory against the Cityzens came back in 2013. This is a mammoth task for Aston Villa, but you never know, a loss would mean that Villa could potentially be bottom of the table by the end of the weekend. As for City, they have the best attack in the league and Erling Haaland comes into the game looking for his third successive hattrick which would be absolutely mental if he is able to achieve it. City can’t afford to get complacent though.

Prediction: 1-3

Brighton VS Leicester

4th place Brighton host bottom of the league Leicester in the opening game of Super Sunday. Brighton suffered their first defeat of the season earlier on this week, but they should stay positive as they have done a really great job so far. For Leicester, they were poor against Manchester United, and they sit bottom of the table with only 1 point. In head-to-head meetings since the 2011/12 season, Leicester have won 50% of their meetings whilst Brighton have won 22%. Brighton won this fixture last season. Brighton have been very good defensively this season and they will look to keep this up, but I do think they need to score more goals. For Leicester, they need to get a win as bottom of the table with no wins after 6 games puts them as potential relegation candidates, no matter how well they’ve done in the past.

Prediction: 2-0

Manchester United VS Arsenal

5th in the league Manchester United host top of the league Arsenal in a big-time matchup. Manchester United are on a three-match winning streak but they didn’t look very good at Leicester yesterday. As for Arsenal, a win at home to Villa means that they are still top of the league with an 100% record. In their last 27 meetings, Manchester United have won 12 of the games whilst Arsenal have won 8. Cristiano Ronaldo was the difference maker in this fixture last season. For Man U, they are looking to make it 4 wins on the bounce, but I feel that they will need to play better than they have in their previous 2 games if they want to get a victory over Arsenal. Arsenal will know that this game is a challenge but if they win this game and make it six wins out of six, they really are in a good spot.

Prediction: 1-2
