Premier League Preview: Gameweek 38

Leeds VS Tottenham

Both Leeds and Tottenham enter the final day of the Premier League season with massive things still to play for. Leeds United lost 3-1 away to West Ham United in their last game and they currently find themselves in 19th place, 2 points away from safety. Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-1 at home to Brentford last time out and they currently sit 8th in the table and a point outside of the European places. In their previous 6 meetings, Leeds have won twice whilst Spurs have won 4 times. For Leeds United, they have to win if they want any chance of staying in the Premier League. Leeds are ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they haven’t won any of their last 8 matches (2D,6L). As for Tottenham, no European football would be an absolute disaster for them. Spurs are ranked 6th in GPG (1.8) and they haven’t won any of their last 9 away games in all competitions (2D,7L).

My Prediction: 2-1

Leicester VS West Ham

Leicester City have to beat West Ham United if they want any chance of playing Premier League Football next season. Leicester drew 0-0 away to Newcastle in their last match and they currently sit inside the relegation zone (18th), 2 points off safety. West Ham beat Leeds United 3-1 last time out and they currently sit 14th in the table. In their previous 20 meetings, Leicester have won 8 times whilst West Ham have won 7 times. For Leicester City, it really is now or never for them. The Foxes are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they have the second-worst home record in the league this season. As for West Ham, it’s all about building momentum for their UEFA Europa Conference League Final now. The Hammers are ranked 13th in GPG (1.1) and they have the 4th worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 0-0

Everton VS Bournemouth

Everton know survival is in their hands going into the final day of the season. Everton scored in the 99th minute to rescue a one-all draw away to Wolves last weekend and they currently sit 17th in the table, 2 points above the drop zone. Bournemouth lost 1-0 at home to Manchester United last time out and they currently find themselves in 15th place. In their previous 13 meetings, Everton have won 5 times whilst Bournemouth have won 6 times. In their 2 meetings this season, Bournemouth have won by an aggregate score of 7-1! For Everton, a win is all they need to guarantee themselves another season in the Premier League. The Toffees are ranked 18th in GPG (0.9) and they have the third-worst home record in the league. As for Bournemouth, they’ll be looking to end their really good season with a victory. The Cherries are ranked 15th in GPG (1.0) and they’ve lost each of their last 3 games.

My Prediction: 1-2

Aston Villa VS Brighton

Aston Villa are looking to do what Brighton did midweek and that’s to secure their place in Europe for next season. Aston Villa drew 1-1 away to Liverpool in their last game and they currently sit 7th, just a point inside the European places. Brighton and Hove Albion beat Southampton 3-1 last weekend before they drew 1-1 with Manchester City in the week and they are guaranteed to finish in a record 6th place. In their previous 11 meetings, Villa have won 5 times whilst Brighton have won just once (2020). For Aston Villa, a spot in Europe would finish off what has been a brilliant second half of the season. Villa are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3) and they've won each of their last 6 games at home. As for Brighton, they’ll be hoping to end their season in style. The Seagulls are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.9) and they have the 4th best away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 4-3

Brentford VS Manchester City

Brentford will hope Manchester City are focusing on other things as they look to sneak into Europe. Brentford won 3-1 away to Tottenham in their last game and they currently sit 9th in the table, 2 points off a European place. Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 last weekend before they drew 1-1 away to Brighton in their “title parade”. In their previous 3 meetings, Brentford have won once whilst Man City have won twice. For Brentford, it would be incredible if they were able to qualify for Europe. The Bees are ranked 7th in GPG (1.5) and they have the 9th-best home record in the league this season. As for Manchester City, it’s important for them that they keep their unbeaten run going heading into their two massive finals. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.5) and they’re now on a 25-game unbeaten run (20W,5D).

My Prediction: 2-2

Arsenal VS Wolves

Both Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to see out their seasons with a positive result. Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss away to Nottingham Forest last week and they are now guaranteed to “only” finish second. Wolves drew 1-1 at home to Everton last time out and they currently sit 13th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, Arsenal have won 7 times whilst Wolves have won 3 times. For Arsenal, their season has been too good to not end the campaign with a victory. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.2) and they have the 4th best home record in the league. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they may fancy themselves in this one. Wolves are ranked 20th in GPG (0.8) and they have the third-worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 4-0

Manchester United VS Fulham

Both Manchester United and Fulham will look to cap off great seasons with victory on the final day of the season. Manchester United won 1-0 at Bournemouth last weekend before they thrashed Chelsea 4-1 last night and they currently sit third. Fulham drew 2-2 at home to Crystal Palace last time out and they are guaranteed to finish 10th. In their previous 15 meetings, Man United have won 12 times and the other 3 games have ended in draws. Fulham’s last victory over Manchester United came back in 2009. For Manchester United, they’ll be wanting to take some momentum into the FA Cup Final. United are ranked 8th in GPG (1.5) and they have the second-best home record in the league this season. As for Fulham, a win here would be the icing on top of what has been a brilliant season. The Cottagers are ranked 9th in GPG (1.5) and they have the 6th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2

Chelsea VS Newcastle

Chelsea lost 1-0 away to Manchester City before they were thrashed 4-1 by Manchester United and they currently sit 12th in the table. Newcastle secured Champions League football with a goalless draw against Leicester last time out and they currently sit 4th. In their previous 25 meetings, Chelsea have won 14 times whilst Newcastle have won 8 times. For Chelsea, they’ll be hoping that they never have a season like this again. The Blues are ranked 15th in GPG (1.0) and they haven’t won any of their last 7 home games (3D,4L). As for Newcastle, they’ll be hoping to end their excellent season in style. The Magpies are ranked 5th in GPG (1.8) and they have the third-best away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 0-3

Southampton VS Liverpool

I think it’s fair to say that both Southampton and Liverpool are glad their seasons are coming to an end. Southampton lost 3-1 away to Brighton last weekend and they are guaranteed to finish bottom of the Premier League. Liverpool drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in their last game and they know that they can only finish 5th. In their previous 24 meetings, Southampton have won 6 times whilst Liverpool have won 15 times. For Southampton, the fans deserve to see something special in their final Premier League game (for now). The Saints are ranked 19th in GPG (0.9) and they have the worst home record in the league. As for Liverpool, no Champions League football is a massive disappointment for them. The Reds are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.9) and they are on a 10-game unbeaten run (7W,3D).

My Prediction: 0-5

Crystal Palace VS Nottingham Forest

Crystal Palace drew two each with Fulham last weekend and they currently sit 11th in the table. Nottingham Forest brilliantly beat Arsenal 1-0 last weekend to secure safety and they currently find themselves in 16th place. In their previous 8 meetings, Palace have won just once (2011) whilst Notts Forest have won 5 times. For Crystal Palace, they’ll be looking to secure 11th place. The Eagles are ranked 14th in GPG (1.1) and they haven’t lost any of their last 4 home games (3W,1D). As for Nottingham Forest, they can go out and enjoy this game. Forest are ranked 15th in GPG (1.0) and they have the worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 4-2
