Premier League Preview: Gameweek 36

Leeds VS Newcastle

Leeds United host Newcastle United in a big game for both clubs. Leeds lost 2-1 away to Manchester City last weekend and they currently find themselves inside the relegation zone with just 3 games to go (19th). Newcastle lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal last time out and they currently sit third with 4 games to go. In their previous 9 meetings, both sides have won 3 times and there has also been 3 draws. For Leeds United, it’s sort of becoming “now or never” for them now. Leeds are ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they haven’t won any of their last 6 games (1D,5L). As for Newcastle United, they need to win this game. The Magpies are ranked 6th in GPG (1.8) and they have the third-best away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 1-2

Aston Villa VS Tottenham

Aston Villa host Tottenham in a game with huge European Football implications. Aston Villa lost 1-0 away to rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out and they currently sit 8th in the table with 3 games left to play. Tottenham Hotspur beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at home and they find themselves in 6th place, also with 3 games to go. In their previous 21 meetings, Aston Villa have won 3 times whilst Tottenham have won a massive 17 times. Villa did win the reverse fixture earlier in the season though. For Aston Villa, they need to try and rekindle their form if they’re going to end the season in the top 7. Villa are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve won each of their last 5 home games. As for Tottenham, a loss here and they could be in real trouble of not playing in Europe next season. Spurs are ranked 5th in GPG (1.8), but they haven’t won any of their last 8 away games (2D,6L).

My Prediction: 3-1

Chelsea VS Nottingham Forest

Chelsea finally got back to winning ways last weekend as they beat Bournemouth 3-1. Chelsea currently sit 11th in the table with 4 games to go. Nottingham Forest picked up a huge 4-3 victory over Southampton and they currently find themselves in 16th place, 3 points above the relegation zone, with 3 left to play. In their previous 4 meetings, Chelsea have won 3 times and the other game ended in a draw (earlier on in the season). You actually have to go back to 1997 for the last time that Notts Forest beat Chelsea (2-0). For Chelsea, it’s all about ending their season in a positive manner now. The Blues are ranked 16th in GPG (1.0) and they only have the 15th-best home record in the league. As for Nottingham Forest, a win here would probably be enough for them to remain a Premier League club. Forest are also ranked 16th in GPG (1.0) and they have the worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 2-1

Crystal Palace VS Bournemouth

Crystal Palace host Bournemouth as both teams look to end their respective seasons strongly. Crystal Palace lost 1-0 away to Tottenham last weekend and they currently sit 12th with 3 games to go. Bournemouth lost 3-1 at home to Chelsea last time out and they currently find themselves in 14th place with 3 games left to play. In their previous 7 meetings, Palace have won 5 times whilst Bournemouth have won twice. For Crystal Palace, they’ll want to win this game. The Eagles are ranked 15th in GPG (1.0) and they have the 14th-best home record in the league. As for AFC Bournemouth, it’s all about ending their season strongly after they’ve already basically ensured their Premier League status for another season. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (1.1) and they have the 12th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-0

Manchester United VS Wolves

Manchester United lost 1-0 away to West Ham in their last game and they currently sit 4th in the table with 4 games left to play. Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Aston Villa 1-0 at home and they currently sit 13th with 3 games to go. In their previous 17 meetings, Manchester United have won 9 times whilst Wolves have won 4 times. For Manchester United, they need to win this game to hold off the threat of Liverpool in the fight for Champions League places. United are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they have the 4th-best home record in the league. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s all about trying to finish as high up in the table as possible for them now. Wolves are ranked 20th in GPG (0.9) and they have the third-worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 2-0

Southampton VS Fulham

Fulham won 5-3 at home to Leicester in their last game and they currently sit 10th in the table with 3 games left to play. In their previous 11 meetings, Southampton have won 6 times whilst Fulham have won twice. For Southampton, it’s win or go home for them now. The Saints are ranked 19th in GPG (0.9) and they have the worst home record in the league this season. As for Fulham, they’ll want to win this game to move over the 50 points mark for the first time in the top flight since the 2011/12 season. The Cottagers are ranked 8th in GPG (1.4) and they have the 7th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-0

Brentford VS West Ham

Brentford lost 1-0 away to Liverpool last time out and they currently sit 9th with 3 games left to play. West Ham United won 1-0 at home to Manchester United before they beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League last night. West Ham sit 15th in the table with 3 games to go. In their previous 6 meetings, both sides have picked up 3 wins. For Brentford, they need to win here if they’re going to have any chance of playing European Football next season. The Bees are ranked 7th in GPG (1.5) and they have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for West Ham United, they’ll most likely rest their players for the big game in Alkmaar on Thursday. The Hammers are ranked 13th in GPG (1.1) and they have the 4th worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0

Everton VS Manchester City

Everton host Manchester City in a huge Premier League tie. Everton smashed Brighton 5-1 (at Brighton) last weekend and they currently sit 17th in the table, 2 points above the relegation zone, with 3 games to go. Manchester City beat Leeds 2-1 at home in their last league game before they drew 1-1 away to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Man City are currently top of the Premier League by a point and they have 4 games still to play. In their previous 28 meetings, Everton have won 6 times whilst Manchester City have won 16 times. For Everton, a win here would be huge for them in their fight for Premier League survival. The Toffees are ranked 18th in GPG (0.9) and they have the third-worst home record in the league this season. As for Manchester City, they’ve just got to keep winning football matches. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.6) and they are currently on a 21-game unbeaten run (17W,4D).

My Prediction: 2-3

Arsenal VS Brighton

Arsenal host Brighton in a big game for both clubs. Arsenal picked up a really good 2-0 win away to Newcastle last weekend and they currently sit second with 3 games to go. Brighton suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss at home to Everton last time out and they currently sit 7th in the table with 5 games left to play. In their previous 14 meetings, Arsenal have won 6 times whilst Brighton have won 5 times. For Arsenal, they need to keep winning if they’re going to lift the Premier League trophy come the end of the season. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.4) and they have the third-best home record in the league this season. As for Brighton and Hove Albion, they’ve almost put themselves under some unnecessary pressure when it comes to qualifying for Europe. The Seagulls are ranked 4th in GPG (1.9) and they have the 4th best away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 4-2

Leicester VS Liverpool

Leicester City host Liverpool in a big Monday Night Football clash. In their previous 20 meetings, Leicester have won 25% of the time whilst Liverpool have won 60% of the time. Two Wout Faes Own-goals handed Liverpool the win at Anfield earlier on in the season. For Leicester City, they need the crowd to get fully behind them in this one. The Foxes are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they have the second-worst home record in the league this season. As for Liverpool, they need to keep winning if they want to play Champions League football next season. The Reds are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.9) and they are currently on a 6-game winning streak.
