Premier League Preview: Gameweek 31

Aston Villa VS Newcastle

Aston Villa host Newcastle United in a really exciting Premier League fixture. Aston Villa beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 last week and they currently sit 6th in the table. Newcastle picked up a great 2-1 win away to Brentford last time out and they currently sit third in the league. In their previous 21 meetings, Villa have won 4 times whilst Newcastle have won 9 times. For Aston Villa, a win here would really show just how far they’ve come. Villa are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they’re unbeaten in their last 7 games (6W,1D). As for Newcastle, a win here would be pretty impressive. The Magpies are ranked 6th in GPG (1.7) and they’ve won all of their last 5 games.

My Prediction: 2-2

Chelsea VS Brighton

Chelsea host Brighton as both teams look to bounce back from disappointing losses last weekend. Chelsea lost 1-0 away to Wolves last Saturday before they lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the Champions League. Chelsea currently sit 11th in the table. Brighton very harshly lost 2-1 away to Tottenham last time out and they currently sit 7th as a result of it. In their previous 13 meetings, Chelsea have won 6 times compared to Brighton’s 2. Brighton won 4-1 in the reverse fixture back in October. For Chelsea, it will be interesting to see if Frank Lampard rests his players for their upcoming second-leg tie with Real Madrid. The Blues are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0), but they haven’t scored in any of their last 4 games (in all competitions). As for Brighton, they’ll definitely believe they can win this game. The Seagulls are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.9) and they have the 4th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-2

Everton VS Fulham

Everton suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Manchester United last weekend and they currently sit 17th in the table, only outside the relegation zone on Goal Difference. Fulham’s poor run of form continued as they lost 1-0 at home to West Ham. Fulham currently sit 10th in the table. In their previous 15 meetings, Everton have won 60% of the time whilst Fulham have won 20%. For Everton, this is a good opportunity for them to pick up a key 3 points. The Toffees are ranked 20th in GPG (0.8) and they have the third-worst home record in the league. As for Fulham, they need to try and make sure that this season doesn’t end on a sour note. The Cottagers are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve lost each of their last 5 games.

My Prediction: 1-0

Southampton VS Crystal Palace

Southampton were thrashed 4-1 at home by Manchester City last week and they currently find themselves bottom of the Premier League. Crystal Palace destroyed Leeds United 5-1 away from home and they currently sit 12th in the table. In their previous 26 meetings, Southampton have won 14 times whilst Palace have won 9 times. The last three meetings have all been won by just one goal. For Southampton, it’s getting pretty desperate for them now as they need to start winning football matches. The Saints are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the worst home record in the league. As for Crystal Palace, one or two more wins should be another to secure survival for another season. The Eagles are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they have the 11th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-3

Tottenham VS Bournemouth

Tottenham escaped last week’s match with Brighton with a 2-1 victory and they currently sit 5th in the Premier League. Bournemouth picked up a really important 1-0 win away to Leicester last time out and they currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 12 meetings, Spurs have won 9 times whilst Bournemouth have only won once. That win for Bournemouth came back in 2019. For Tottenham, they should be winning this game. Spurs are ranked 4th in GPG (1.8) and they’re unbeaten in six home games. As for Bournemouth, it’s not out of the question that they can’t get a result from this game. The Cherries are ranked 15th in GPG (0.9) and they have the 5th worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Wolves VS Brentford

Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up a positive 1-0 victory at home to Chelsea last week and they currently sit 13th in the table. Brentford lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle and they currently find themselves in 9th place. In their previous 13 meetings, Wolves have won 6 times whilst Brentford have won 4 times. For Wolverhampton Wanderers, a couple more wins should see them stay up this season. Wolves are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the 5th worst home record in the league. As for Brentford, they need to start winning again if they want to end the season in the top 7. The Bees are ranked 7th in GPG (1.6), but they’ve failed to win any of their last 4 games.

My Prediction: 1-0

Manchester City VS Leicester

Manchester City host Leicester City in a game between two teams at opposite ends of the table. Manchester City thrashed Southampton 4-1 in the league last weekend before they beat Bayern Munich 3-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final stage. City currently sit second in the table. Leicester City suffered a really poor 1-0 loss at home to Bournemouth last time out and they currently find themselves in 19th. In their previous 23 meetings, Man City have won 14 times whilst Leicester have won 5 times. For Manchester City, they’ll want to win this game big. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.6) and they’ve won each of their last 9 games by a total aggregate score of 34-3. As for Leicester City, it would definitely be up there as one of the shocks of the season if they were able to get a result from this one. The Foxes are ranked 10th in GPG (1.3), but they haven’t won a game in any of their last 9 (1D,8L)

My Prediction: 4-0

West Ham VS Arsenal

West Ham clash with Arsenal in an important London Derby. West Ham picked up a good 1-0 win away to Fulham last weekend before they drew 1-1 with KAA Gent last night (UEFA Europa Conference League). West Ham sit 14th in the table. Arsenal ended up drawing 2-2 with Liverpool in a crazy contest last Sunday and they currently lead the rest of the field (Manchester City) by 6 points. In their previous 24 meetings, West Ham have won just twice whilst Arsenal have won a massive 19 times. For West Ham, they should view this game as a free hit really. The Hammers are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and they have the 13th-best home record in the league. As for Arsenal, they’ll want to bounce back from last week’s draw with a victory here. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.4) and they have the best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-3

Nottingham Forest VS Manchester United

Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 at Aston Villa last weekend and they currently sit inside the relegation zone as a result (18th). Manchester United were able to beat Everton 2-0 in their last league game before they drew 2-2 with Sevilla in the Europa League last night. United currently sit 4th in the table. These two teams have met three times this season, with United winning every game whilst Forest are yet to score (8-0 on aggregate). For Nottingham Forest, it’s starting to get really concerning for them. Forest are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they haven’t won any of their last 9 games (3D,6L). As for Manchester United, I’d expect them to rest key players in this one. United are ranked 8th in GPG (1.5) and they’ve kept the joint most amount of clean sheets in the league this season (13).

My Prediction: 1-2

Leeds VS Liverpool

Leeds United host Liverpool live on Monday Night Football. Leeds were decimated 5-1 by Crystal Palace at home last weekend and they currently sit 16th in the table. Liverpool picked up a decent point at home to Arsenal last time out and they currently sit in 8th. In their previous 6 meetings, Leeds have won once whilst Liverpool have won 4 times. That win for Leeds came earlier on in the season. For Leeds United, they really need to bounce back after last week’s horror show. Leeds are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they have the 14th-best home record in the league. As for Liverpool, they should really be winning this game. The Reds are ranked 5th in GPG (1.7), but they haven’t won any of their last 5 games in all competitions (2D,3L).

My Prediction: 0-2
