Premier League Preview: Gameweek 28

Manchester City VS Liverpool

Manchester City host Liverpool under different circumstances than usual. City beat RB Leipzig 7-0 in the Champions League before they beat Burnley 6-0 in the FA Cup and they currently sit second in the Premier League. Liverpool were eliminated from the Champions League in their last game and they currently sit 6th in the table. In their previous 36 meetings, Man City have won 9 times compared to Liverpool’s 15. The two teams have already played each other 3 times this season. For Manchester City, they need to pretty much win every game for the rest of the season if they want to end the year as Champions. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.5) and they haven’t conceded for 5 games (they’ve won all of them). As for Liverpool, this is an important game in their hopes to qualify for the Champions League. The Reds are ranked 4th in GPG (1.8), but they haven’t scored in any of their last 3 away games (in all competitions).

My Prediction: 2-1

Arsenal VS Leeds

Arsenal host Leeds in a big game for both sides. Arsenal thrashed Crystal Palace 4-1 before the break and they currently lead the rest of the field by 8 points. Leeds United picked up a brilliant 4-2 win in Wolverhampton to move all the way up to 14th place. In their previous 10 meetings, Arsenal have won 8 times whilst Leeds have failed to win a single game. Leeds’ last win against Arsenal actually came all the way back in 2003. For Arsenal, this should be another comfortable victory. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.4) and they have the best home record in the league. As for Leeds, anything from this game would be a huge bonus for them. Leeds are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they have the 5th worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-0

Bournemouth VS Fulham

Bournemouth and Fulham battled for the Championship trophy last season and this year, they’re both fighting for two very different things. Bournemouth were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Aston Villa in their last match and they currently find themselves in 19th place. Fulham were thrashed 3-0 by Arsenal in their last league game before they completely collapsed against Manchester United in the FA Cup Quarter Final. Fulham currently sit 9th in the table. In their previous 8 meetings, Bournemouth have won 3 times, Fulham have won once and there have been 4 draws. For AFC Bournemouth, they really need to start picking up some consistent victories. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (0.9) and they have the third-worst home record in the league. As for Fulham, they have to be winning these types of games if they want to end the season in the European places. The Cottagers are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4) and they have the 7th-best away record in the league,

My Prediction: 1-1

Brighton VS Brentford

7th-place Brighton host 8th-place Brentford in a game that could have huge implications for both teams’ European hopes. Brighton beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in their last league game before they won 5-0 at home to Grimsby in the FA Cup. Brentford picked up a point at home to Leicester last time out. In their previous 13 meetings, Brighton have won 6 times compared to Brentford’s 5. Every win but 1 has seen the team who wins keep a clean sheet. For Brighton, this game is huge for so many reasons. The Seagulls are ranked 5th in GPG (1.8) and they’re unbeaten in their last 5 games. As for Brentford, they really need to get the victory here. The Bees are ranked 6th in GPG (1.6) and they have the 9th-best home record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-2

Crystal Palace VS Leicester

Roy Hodgson returns as Crystal Palace manager as his side takes on Leicester in a big game at the bottom of the table. Crystal Palace were thrashed 4-1 by Arsenal in their last game and they currently sit 12th in the table. Leicester City picked up a decent point away to Brentford last time out and they currently sit 17th in the Prem. In their previous 23 meetings, Palace have won 8 times whilst Leicester have won 9 times. For Crystal Palace, it’s time to see whether Patrick Viera was the problem or not. The Eagles are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they haven’t won in 13 matches. As for Leicester, this is a huge game for them. The Foxes are ranked 9th in GPG (1.4), but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 8 games.

My Prediction: 2-0

Nottingham Forest VS Wolves

Nottingham Forest host Wolverhampton Wanderers in another huge game. Nottingham Forest conceded late to lose 2-1 against Newcastle last time out and they currently sit 16th in the table. Wolves are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the 15th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea VS Aston Villa

Two teams not far off European Football look to get even closer with a win at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea conceded late in a two-all draw with Everton last time out and they currently sit 10th in the table. Aston Villa thrashed Bournemouth 3-0 before the break and they currently find themselves in 11th place. In their previous 22 meetings, Chelsea have won 14 times compared to Villa’s 4. For Chelsea, they can’t afford to lose this game. The Blues are ranked 13th in GPG (1.1) and they’re unbeaten in their last 4 games (3W,1D). As for Aston Villa, a win here would propel them into the top half of the table. Villa are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’re also unbeaten in their last 4 games (3W,1D).

My Prediction: 1-1

West Ham VS Southampton

Two teams in the relegation zone face off as West Ham United host Southampton at the London Stadium. West Ham drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in their last league game before they advanced to the UEFA Europa Conference League Quarter Finals with a 4-0 win over AEK Larnaca. West Ham currently sit 18th in the table. Southampton scored a late penalty to pick up a three-all draw with Tottenham last time out, but they still sit bottom. In their previous 24 meetings, West Ham have won 10 times compared to Southampton’s 7. For West Ham, they should be winning this game. The Hammers are ranked 15th in GPG (0.9) and they’re unbeaten in their last 5 home games (in all competitions). As for Southampton, a win here could well move them out of the relegation zone. The Saints are ranked 16th in GPG (0.8) and they have the 12th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-2

Newcastle VS Manchester United

Newcastle host Manchester United in a game that could have huge Champions League implications. Newcastle came away from Nottingham with a 2-1 victory before the break and they currently find themselves in 5th place. In their previous 25 meetings, Newcastle have won 16% of the time whilst Man U have won 60% of the time. United beat Newcastle 2-0 in the Carabao Cup Final a month ago. For Newcastle United, a win here would move them above their opponents. The Magpies are ranked 8th in GPG (1.5), but they surprisingly haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 8 games. As for Manchester United, a win here would be massive. United are ranked 7th in GPG (1.6) and they have the 4th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-2

Everton VS Tottenham

Tottenham look to keep themselves in the top 4 as they play their first game since Antonio Conte’s departure.
