Premier League Preview: Gameweek 25

Manchester City VS Newcastle

Manchester City host Newcastle United in a big game to kick off the weekend. Manchester City thrashed Bournemouth 4-1 in the league last weekend before they went to Bristol City and won 3-0 in the cup. City currently sit second in the table, 5 points behind league leaders Arsenal . Newcastle lost 2-0 last weekend in the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United and they currently sit 5th. In their previous 26 meetings, Man City have won a whopping 26 times compared to just 2 wins for Newcastle. It’s fair to say that there’s usually quite a few goals when the teams meet (41 in the last 10 meetings). For Manchester City, they need to be winning this game. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.6) and they have the best home record in the league. As for Newcastle, a win here would give the whole side a massive confidence boost. The Magpies are ranked 9th in GPG (1.5) and they have the 4th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-1

Arsenal VS Bournemouth

Arsenal went to Leicester last weekend and won 1-0 before they thrashed Everton at home 4-0 to move 5 points clear at the top of the table. Bournemouth were thrashed 4-1 by Manchester City last time out and they currently sit 19th in the table. In their previous 12 meetings, Arsenal have won 9 times whilst Bournemouth have won just once. That win for the visitors came back in 2018. For Arsenal, they really should win this game comfortably. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.2) and they enter this game on the back of 3 straight wins (9-2 on aggregate). As for Bournemouth, they’ll do incredibly well to get out of this game with anything. The Cherries are ranked 15th in GPG (0.9) and they have the 16th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-0

Brighton VS West Ham

Brighton lost 1-0 at home to Fulham in their last league game, but they came away with a 1-0 win away to Stoke in the FA Cup the other day. Brighton currently sit 8th in the table. West Ham thrashed Nottingham Forest 4-0 at home last weekend before they were eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United (3-1). West Ham currently sit 16th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, Brighton have won 5 times whilst West Ham have won just twice. West Ham’s last win against Brighton actually came back in 2012 when both teams were playing in the championship (they won 6-0). For Brighton, they’ll be disappointed with themselves if they don’t walk out of this game with all 3 points. The Seagulls are ranked 4th in GPG (1.8) and they only have the 11th-best home record in the league. As for West Ham, they’ll look to build from a really good second half performance last weekend. The Hammers are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they have the third-worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 2-1

Wolves VS Tottenham

Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up a positive point away to Fulham last weekend before they lost 2-0 at Anfield on Wednesday. Wolves currently sit 15th in the table. Tottenham Hotspur picked up a good 2-0 win against London rivals Chelsea last weekend before they were shockingly beaten by Championship side Sheffield United in the FA Cup 5th round. Spurs currently sit 4th. In their previous 14 meetings, Wolves have won 3 times compared to Tottenham’s 7. For Wolverhampton Wanderers, they could get a result from this game. Wolves are ranked 19th in GPG (0.7) and they have the 17th-best home record in the league. As for Tottenham, they should be winning this game. Spurs are ranked 3rd in GPG (1.8), but they’ve lost each of their last 3 away games.

My Prediction: 1-2

Aston Villa VS Crystal Palace

Aston Villa beat Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park last weekend and they currently sit 11th in the table. Crystal Palace picked up a decent point at home to Liverpool last time out and they currently sit 12th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, Aston Villa have won 5 times compared to Palace’s 6. For Aston Villa, they should win this game. Villa are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they’ve lost both of their last two home games 4-2. As for Crystal Palace, can they finally get a win? The Eagles are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and they now haven’t won for 9 games.

My Prediction: 2-0

Chelsea VS Leeds

Chelsea lost 2-0 away to London rivals Tottenham last weekend and they currently sit 10th in the table. Leeds picked up a big win against Southampton last weekend (1-0), but they were then knocked out of the FA Cup by Fulham in midweek (2-0). In their previous 6 meetings, Chelsea have won 4 times compared to just 1 for Leeds United. That win came earlier in the season (3-0). For Chelsea, they can’t afford too keep losing. Chelsea are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they’ve lost each of their last 3 games without scoring a goal. As for Leeds United, there’s no reason why they can’t get a result from this game. Leeds are ranked 12th in GPG (1.2) and they have the second-worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 1-0

Southampton VS Leicester

Southampton lost in a big game last weekend away to Leeds (1-0) before they suffered a shocking, shambolic 2-1 defeat at home to League 2 Grimsby in the FA Cup 5th round. Southampton currently sit bottom of the Premier League. Leicester City lost 1-0 at home to Arsenal last weekend before they suffered a shock defeat at home to championship side Blackburn in the FA Cup (1-2). Leicester currently sit 14th in the table. In their previous 21 meetings, Southampton have won 5 times compared to Leicester’s 10. For Southampton, they need to try and get all 3 points from this game. The Saints are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the worst home record in the league. As for Leicester City, a loss here would put them right back into the relegation scrap. The Foxes are ranked 8th in GPG and they’re currently on a 3-game losing streak.

My Prediction: 1-4

Nottingham Forest VS Everton

Nottingham Forest host Everton in a game that could have huge implications come May. Nottingham Forest were destroyed 4-0 by West Ham last weekend and they currently sit 13th in the table. Everton lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa before they were thrashed 4-0 at the Emirates by Arsenal and they currently sit in 18th place. Their meeting earlier on in the season ended as a 1-1 draw. For Nottingham Forest, this is a great opportunity for them to bridge a gap to the relegation zone. Forest are ranked 18th in GPG (0.8) and they also have the third-worst defensive record in the league. As for Everton, they can’t afford to keep losing. The Toffees are ranked 20th in GPG (0.7) and they haven’t won an away game since October.

My Prediction: 2-0

Liverpool VS Manchester United

Two of the biggest clubs in football face off as Liverpool host Manchester United at Anfield. Liverpool drew 0-0 away to Crystal Palace before they beat Wolves 2-0 at home to move up to 6th in the table. Manchester United won the Carabao Cup last weekend by beating Newcastle United 2-0 before they advanced to the FA Cup Quarter Finals with a 3-1 win over West Ham United. Man U currently sit third in the table. In their previous 34 meetings, Liverpool have won 11 times compared to United’s 15. For Liverpool, this game is a huge test for them. The Reds are ranked 6th in GPG (1.7) and they have the 4th best home record in the league. As for Manchester United, they’ll be disappointed with anything other than a win from this game. United are ranked 5th in GPG (1.7) and they’re currently on a 4-game winning streak (10-2 on aggregate).

My Prediction: 1-3

Brentford VS Fulham

Two London underdogs fighting for a spot in Europe face off as Brentford host Fulham at the Gtech Community Stadium. Brentford drew 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace in their last game and they currently sit 9th in the table. Fulham drew 1-1 at home to Wolves in their last league game before they beat Leeds 2-0 in the FA Cup midweek. In their previous 15 meetings, Brentford have won 47% of the time compared to Fulham’s 33%. For Brentford, a win here would put them in a great position. The Bees are ranked 7th in GPG (1.6) and they’re unbeaten in their last 11 league games. As for Fulham, this would be a big win for them. Fulham are ranked 10th in GPG (1.4) and they’re unbeaten in their last 7 games in all competitions.
