Premier League Preview: Gameweek 22

West Ham VS Chelsea

This weekend’s Premier League action kicks off with another London Derby as West Ham host Chelsea at the London Stadium. West Ham picked up a positive point away from home against Newcastle last week and they come into this game 17th in the league, just 1 point above the drop zone. Chelsea played out a nil-nil draw against London rivals Fulham last week and they currently sit 9th in the table. In their previous 24 meetings, West Ham have won 7 times compared to Chelsea’s 13. For West Ham, they’ve been on a good run so they will believe that they will be able to pick up a result in this one. The Hammers are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and they have the 16th-best home record in the league. As for Chelsea, this is a good opportunity for them to pick up a victory. The Blues are ranked 13th in GPG (1.0) and they haven’t conceded in any of their last 3 games.

My Prediction: 1-1

Arsenal VS Brentford

Arsenal host fellow London side Brentford in a really exciting Premier League clash. Arsenal suffered a shock defeat away to Everton last weekend (1-0), but they still come into this game leading the rest of the field by 5 points. Brentford thrashed Southampton 3-0 last week and they currently find themselves in 7th position in the Premier League table. In their previous 4 meetings, Arsenal have won 3 times compared to Brentford’s 1. For Arsenal, this is going to be a tough game for them. The Gunners are ranked 2nd in GPG (2.3), but they are on a two-game losing streak. As for Brentford, they will definitely fancy their chances at a result in this one. The Bees are ranked 5th in GPG (1.7) and they haven’t lost in the league since October.

My Prediction: 3-2

Crystal Palace VS Brighton

Two rivals clash as Crystal Palace host Brighton at Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace suffered a 2-1 loss to Manchester United last week, but they still find themselves 12th in the table. Brighton managed to score late to beat Bournemouth 1-0 last week and they currently sit in an amazing 6th place. In their previous 17 meetings, Palace have won 35% of the time compared to Brighton’s 24%. The last 3 meetings at this ground have all finished 1-1. For Crystal Palace, they really need to get back to winning ways. The Eagles are ranked 14th in GPG (0.9) and they haven’t won any of their last 6 games. As for Brighton, they will fully expect to pick up another 3 points here. The Seagulls are ranked 4th in GPG (1.9) and they are unbeaten in their last 6 games.

My Prediction: 0-3

Fulham VS Nottingham Forest

Fulham picked up a point in a bore draw with Chelsea last week and they managed to advance to the FA Cup 5th round with a win at Sunderland this past Wednesday. Fulham currently find themselves in 8th place. Nottingham Forest picked up another positive result last weekend (1-0 win VS Leeds) and they currently sit 13th in the table. In their previous 13 meetings, Fulham have won 7 times compared to Forest’s 5. The away side has won each of the last 5 meetings. For Fulham, they need to try and get back to winning ways in the league. Fulham are ranked 9th in GPG (1.5) and they also have the 9th-best home record in the league. As for Notts Forest, they’re hoping to continue with their good run of form in the league. Forest are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they are unbeaten in their last 5 Premier League games (3W,2D).

My Prediction: 1-2

Leicester VS Tottenham

Leicester picked up a good 4-2 win at Villa Park last week and they currently sit 14th in the table. Tottenham once again beat Manchester City at home last week (1-0) and they currently sit 5th in the table, just a point off the top 4. In their previous 20 meetings, Leicester have won 5 times compared to Spurs’ 12. In those 20 games, there have been a total of 80 goals! For Leicester, they will be hoping to build from last week’s victory. The Foxes are ranked 9th in GPG (1.5), but they have the second-worst home record in the league. As for Tottenham, this is a great chance for them to extend their winning run to 4 games. Spurs are currently ranked 3rd in GPG (1.9) and they have the second-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-4

Southampton VS Wolves

Southampton host Wolverhampton Wanderers in a big lower-table clash. Southampton were thrashed 3-0 by Brentford last week and they currently sit bottom of the Premier League. Wolverhampton Wanderers were amazing last week and they beat Liverpool 3-0 as a result of it. Wolves currently sit 15th in the table. In their previous 12 meetings, Southampton have won 3 times compared to Wolves’ 7. Wolves have won each of the previous 4 ties. For Southampton, Nathan Jones really needs to pick up a victory here. The Saints are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they also have the worst home record in the league. As for Wolves, they will want to take all 3 points back home with them. Wolves are ranked 20th in GPG (0.7) and they have the third-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-2

Bournemouth VS Newcastle

Bournemouth were unlucky to lose to Brighton and Hove Albion last week (1-0) and they now find themselves in 19th place. Newcastle dropped two points at home to West Ham last week and they now find themselves in 4th place, just a point above 5th (they do have a game in hand though). In their previous 10 meetings, Bournemouth have won twice compared to Newcastle’s five. Bournemouth’s last win over Newcastle came back in 2017. For Bournemouth, they really need to start winning football matches. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (0.9) and they’ve failed to win any of their 8 games since the World Cup. As for Newcastle, they can’t afford to slip up here. The Magpies are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they have the third-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-2

Leeds VS Manchester United

Leeds United would’ve been happy with a point at Manchester United before the game, but they will be frustrated with the fact they let a two-goal lead slip. Leeds currently sit 16th in the table. Manchester United would’ve been frustrated with their performance against Leeds the other day and they currently sit third in the table. In their previous 7 meetings, Leeds haven’t won a single game and United have won 5 times. When Man U win, they win big whilst Leeds’ last victory over United came all the way back in 2010. For Leeds United, it’ll be interesting to see how the home fans react to Jesse Marsch no longer being there. Leeds are ranked 11th in GPG (1.3) and they have the 4th worst defense in the league. As for Manchester United, they need to pick up the win here to keep up with Arsenal. United are ranked 7th in GPG (1.6) and they have the 6th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-3

Manchester City VS Aston Villa

Manchester City suffered a frustrating 1-0 loss at Tottenham last week and they currently sit second in the Premier League table, 5 points behind leaders Arsenal. Aston Villa suffered a frustrating 4-2 loss at home to Leicester and they currently sit 11th in the table. In their previous 21 meetings, Manchester City have won a massive 18 times compared to just 3 for Villa. Man City won the Premier League title the last time these two clubs faced off at the Etihad. For Manchester City, they need to use their current negative publicity to fire them back up to their very best. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.5) and they have the best home record in the league. As for Aston Villa, they need to try and forget about last week’s result because they were on a good run before it. Villa are ranked 12th in GPG (1.2) and they have the 11th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 4-1

Liverpool VS Everton

Both Liverpool and Everton walk into the Merseyside Derby with pretty poor form. Liverpool were absolutely stuffed by Wolves last week (3-0) and Jurgen Klopp’s men currently sit 10th in the table. Everton had an amazing start to life under Sean Dyche last week as they managed to beat league leaders Arsenal by a goal to nil. In their previous 28 meetings, Liverpool have won 13 times compared to just Everton’s 2. For Liverpool, this derby feels even more important for them than years before. The Reds are ranked 6th in GPG (1.7) and they are also ranked 6th at home this season. As for Everton, can they build off of last week’s excellent result here? The Toffees are ranked 19th in GPG (0.8) and they’ve only picked up 2 points in their last 8 away games (in all competitions).

My Prediction: 1-2
