Premier League Preview: Gameweek 20

Liverpool VS Chelsea

Liverpool face Chelsea in a massive game for both sides. Liverpool were stuffed 3-0 by Brighton in their last league game, but they did get a victory over Wolves in the FA Cup on Tuesday. Liverpool currently sit 9th in the table. Chelsea managed to pick up a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the league last week and they currently sit in 10th place. In their previous 34 meetings, Liverpool have won 11 times, Chelsea have won 10 times and there have been 13 draws. Their last two meetings were both cup finals (Liverpool won them both on penalties). For Liverpool, this is an opportunity for them to pick up some much-needed momentum. The Reds are ranked 5th in both GPG (1.9) and the home league table. As for Chelsea, can they make it two wins in a row for the first time since October? The Blues are ranked 12th in GPG (1.2) and they haven’t won any of their last 6 away games.

My Prediction: 0-0

Bournemouth VS Nottingham Forest

Bournemouth suffered another loss last week (2-0 at Brentford) and the Cherries now find themselves in 17th place, just a point off the bottom. Nottingham Forest picked up a good 2-0 victory over Leicester City last week and they now find themselves in 13th place. In their previous 10 meetings, Bournemouth have won 5 times compared to Forest’s 3. For Bournemouth, they really need to start winning football matches. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (0.9) and they’ve lost every single game since the World Cup (6 losses, only scored in one game). As for Nottingham Forest, they will believe that they can keep this good run of form going. Forest are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they are on a 2-game winning streak in the league (3-0 on aggregate).

My Prediction: 0-2

Leicester VS Brighton

Leicester City were comfortably beaten by Nottingham Forest last week (2-0) and they now find themselves in 15th place. Brighton stuffed Liverpool 3-0 (at home) to move up to 7th place in the table. In their previous 19 meetings, Leicester have won 9 times compared to Brighton’s 5. Brighton thrashed Leicester 5-2 in the reverse fixture back in September. For Leicester, it’s really important for them that they start picking up some points. The Foxes are ranked 10th in GPG (1.4) and they’ve lost all four of their previous league games (only scored once). As for Brighton, this is a great opportunity for them to pick up yet another win. The Seagulls are ranked 4th in GPG (1.9) and they’ve won each of their last 3 games by a total aggregate score of 12-2!

My Prediction: 0-3

Southampton VS Aston Villa

Southampton continued their good run of form by beating Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park last Saturday. The Saints still sit bottom of the league though. Aston Villa picked up a solid victory over Leeds last Friday Night (2-1) and the Villans currently sit 11th in the table. In their previous 16 encounters, Southampton have won 56% of the time compared to Villa’s 25%. For Southampton, they will feel confident about their chances in this game. The Saints are ranked 16th in GPG (0.9), but they still have the worst home record in the league. As for Aston Villa, this is an opportunity for them to pick up another positive league result. Villa are ranked 12th in GPG (1.2) and they are unbeaten in their last 3 league games (2W,1D).

My Prediction: 1-1

West Ham VS Everton

Two very struggling teams meet at the London Stadium as West Ham host Everton. The Hammers lost 1-0 at Wolves last week and they currently find themselves in the relegation zone, sitting 18th. The Toffees suffered a really poor loss at home to Southampton last week and they currently find themselves in the relegation zone, sitting 19th. In their previous 26 meetings, Everton have won 13 times compared to West Ham’s 6. For West Ham, this is a game they cannot afford to lose. The Hammers are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they haven’t won any of their last 4 home games. As for Everton, this is a must-win game for them. The Toffees are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they haven’t won any of their last 9 competitive games.

My Prediction: 1-0

Crystal Palace VS Newcastle

Crystal Palace lost 1-0 at Chelsea last week, but they picked up a pretty solid point at home to Manchester United on Wednesday. Palace currently sit 12th in the table. Newcastle picked up a good 1-0 win at home to Fulham last week and they currently sit in 4th place. In their previous 19 meetings, Newcastle have won 8 times compared to Palace’s 4 times. Crystal Palace have failed to score against Newcastle in each of their last 3 meetings (Newcastle have only scored once). For Crystal Palace, they will look to build on a positive result from earlier on in the week. The Eagles are ranked 14th in GPG (0.9), but they haven’t won any of their last 4 home games. As for Newcastle, they will look to build a gap to 5th place Tottenham with a victory here. The Magpies are ranked 6th in GPG (1.7) and they haven’t conceded in the league since the 6th of November.

My Prediction: 0-2

Leeds VS Brentford

Leeds United lost against Aston Villa last weekend (2-1), but they picked up a 5-2 victory over Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Wednesday. Leeds currently sit in 14th place. Brentford picked up a 2-0 victory over Bournemouth last week and they’ve moved up to 8th place. In their previous 15 meetings, Brentford have won 6 times compared to Leeds’ 4. Brentford won 5-2 in the reverse fixture back in September. For Leeds, they will want to bounce back from last weeks league defeat. Leeds are currently ranked 10th in GPG (1.4) and they have the 14th-best home record in the league. As for Brentford, they are coming into this game with so much confidence. The Bees are ranked 7th in GPG (1.7) and they’ve won all 3 of their previous league games (7-1 on aggregate).

My Prediction: 1-2

Manchester City VS Wolves

Manchester City suffered a controversial defeat away to local rivals Manchester United last week (2-1) before they bounced back in style by beating Tottenham Hotspur 4-2 last night. City currently sit second in the table. Wolverhampton Wanderers picked up a positive 1-0 victory at home to West Ham last week, but they then suffered a 1-0 defeat at home against Liverpool in the FA Cup. Wolves currently sit 16th in the league. In their previous 16 meetings, City have won 10 times compared to Wolves’ 3. City won 3-0 in the reverse fixture back in September. For Manchester City, they need to go and win every game till the end of the season. City are ranked 1st in GPG (2.6) and they have the best home record in the league. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they will definitely give this game a good go. Wolves are currently ranked 20th in GPG (0.6) and they have the 16th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 4-1

Arsenal VS Manchester United

A massive clash takes place in North London as Arsenal host Manchester United. Arsenal picked up a brilliant win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last week and they now find themselves top of the league by 5 points (with a game in hand). Manchester United beat their local rivals Manchester City last week, but they failed to beat Crystal Palace midweek. United currently sit third in the table. In their previous 28 meetings, Man U have won 13 times compared to Arsenal’s 8. The winner of the last 3 meetings between the teams has scored 3 goals. For Arsenal, if they can pick up another win here, they are really starting to look formidable. The Gunners are currently ranked 2nd in GPG (2.3) and they have the second-best home record in the league. As for Manchester United, they need to win this game if they want to find themselves in a title fight. United are currently ranked 9th in GPG (1.6) and they have the third-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 3-2

Fulham VS Tottenham

6th hosts 5th as Fulham welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Craven Cottage. Fulham were really unlucky to lose at Newcastle last week and they currently sit 5th in the table. Tottenham haven’t had a particularly good week, losing 2-0 at home to North London rivals Arsenal before they lost 4-2 to Manchester City last night (they were 2-0 up at halftime). Spurs currently sit 5th in the table. In their previous 15 meetings, Spurs have won 12 times and Fulham have only won twice. Fulham’s last win came all the way back in 2013 (0-1). For Fulham, they know that a win here would move them above Spurs and into 5th place! Fulham are ranked 8th in GPG (1.6) and they also have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for Tottenham, they really need to pick up a victory here. Spurs are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.0) and they have the sixth-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 2-0
