Premier League Preview: Gameweek 18

Brentford VS Liverpool

Brentford picked up another good win last time out (2-0 at West Ham) and they currently sit in a pretty good 10th place. Liverpool were basically handed a victory over Leicester City after shocking defending from Wout Faes. Liverpool currently sit in 6th place. In their two meetings last season, Brentford got a three-all draw at home before Liverpool comfortably beat them 3-0 at Anfield. For Brentford, can they pick up another big win? They are ranked 8th in GPG, but they haven’t won any of their previous 5 home games. As for Liverpool, this is a game they should be winning. The Reds are ranked 3rd in GPG (2.1), but they haven’t managed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 6 matches.

My Prediction: 2-3

Arsenal VS Newcastle

1st plays 3rd as Arsenal host Newcastle. Arsenal picked up another good win, this time away to Brighton (4-2) whilst Newcastle dropped two points at home to Leeds (0-0). In their last 24 meetings, Arsenal have won 19 times compared to Newcastle’s 3. You’d have to go back to 2010 to find when Newcastle last picked up a victory at the Emirates. For Arsenal, this is a big opportunity for them to really build a gap at the top of the table. The Gunners are currently ranked 2nd in GPG (2.5) and they have an 100% record at home in the league this season (7W). As for Newcastle, these are the games that will really show if the Magpies are good enough to fight for a spot in the Champions League. Newcastle are currently ranked 5th in GPG (1.9) and they haven’t conceded a single goal in any of their last 5 competitive games. Should be a good one.

My Prediction: 2-1

Everton VS Brighton

Everton picked up a good point away from home against Manchester City and they currently sit in 16th place. Brighton suffered a 4-2 defeat at home to Arsenal and they have now dropped down to 9th place. In their last 10 meetings, Everton have won half of the time whilst Brighton have won 30% of the time. The away team won both meetings last season. For Everton, a point away was good but they really need to start winning games now. The Toffees are ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the third-worst home record in the league this season. As for Brighton, this is a game they probably should be winning. The Seagulls are ranked 6th in GPG (1.8) and they have the 5th-best away record in the league which is really good.

My Prediction: 1-3

Leicester VS Fulham

Leicester City suffered a crazy loss to Liverpool which sees them sit in 13th place. Fulham picked up a late win over Southampton which sees them in a brilliant 7th place. In their previous 5 meetings, Leicester have won 60% of the time compared to Fulham’s 20%. For Leicester, they are looking to pick up their first league victory since November. The Foxes are currently ranked 9th in GPG (1.5) and they have the 4th worst home record in the league. As for Fulham, a win here would give them more points than they had in their previous 2 relegated seasons. Fulham are ranked 7th in GPG (1.7) and they have the 8th-best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-2

Manchester United VS Bournemouth

Manchester United stretched their winning run to 5 games with a 1-0 win in Wolverhampton. United currently sit 4th in the table. Bournemouth were outplayed by Crystal Palace last time out and they sit in 15th place as a result of it. In their previous 10 meetings, United won 7 times compared to Bournemouth’s two victories. For Manchester United, this is a great opportunity to potentially move up to third in the table. United are ranked only ranked 10th in GPG (1.5), but they are unbeaten in their previous 8 home games. As for Bournemouth, it’s going to be a tough ask for them to get a result in this game. The Cherries are ranked 14th in GPG (1.1) and they have the third-worst away record in the league this season.

My Prediction: 3-0

Southampton VS Nottingham Forest

20th takes on 18th as Southampton host Nottingham Forest in an important match. Southampton conceded late in a 2-1 loss to Fulham whilst Forest picked up a good point at home to Chelsea. The last time these two teams faced each other was back in the 2011/2012 Championship season. The Saints won both games. For Southampton, this is a game they have to be winning. The Saints are currently ranked 16th in GPG (0.9) and they have the worst home record in the league. As for Nottingham Forest, this is an opportunity for them to move out of the relegation places. Forest are currently ranked 19th in GPG (0.7) and they have the worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 0-0

Leeds VS West Ham

Leeds United picked up a good point away from home against Newcastle United (0-0) and they currently sit in 14th place. West Ham United suffered a 2-0 loss at home to Brentford and they currently sit in 17th place, level on points with the team below them. In their previous 7 meetings, West Ham picked up 4 wins whilst Leeds’ only victory came in their most recent fixture (3-2). For Leeds, this is a game that they actually should be winning. They are currently ranked 11th in GPG (1.4) and 14th in the home league table. As for West Ham, they need to pick up a win after 5 straight defeats. The Hammers are currently ranked 17th in GPG (0.8) and they have the second-worst away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-0

Aston Villa VS Wolves

A west Midlands derby takes place as Aston Villa host Wolverhampton Wanderers. Villa picked up a great win away from home against Tottenham and they currently sit in 12th place. Wolves suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Manchester United and they have now dropped down to 19th place. In their last 16 meetings, Wolves have won 7 times compared to Villa’s 5. Wolves won both meetings last season including that crazy comeback win at Villa Park. For Aston Villa, this is a game they probably should be picking up all 3 points. Villa are currently ranked 13th in GPG (1.1) and they have the 10th-best home record in the league. As for Wolves, I’m intrigued to see how they get on in this game. Wolves currently have the worst attack in the league (0.6 GPG), but they are unbeaten in their previous 4 away games. Also, both managers have won Europa League titles with Sevilla so this shows that both teams are looking to climb up the table.

My Prediction: 2-1

Crystal Palace VS Tottenham

Crystal Palace got back to winning ways against Bournemouth last Saturday and they currently sit in 11th place. Tottenham suffered a surprise defeat at home to Aston Villa and that result means Spurs are no longer sitting in the top 4 (5th place). In their previous 20 meetings, Spurs have won 65% of the meetings compared to Palace’s 20%. Both teams won 3-0 at home last season. For Crystal Palace, they can win this game. They are currently ranked 15th in GPG (1.1) and they have the 11th-best home record in the league. As for Tottenham, they need to get back to winning ways. Spurs are currently ranked 4th in GPG (1.9) and they have the 6th best away record in the league.

My Prediction: 1-0

Chelsea VS Manchester City

Chelsea host Manchester City in a big-time matchup. Chelsea dropped more points last week (1-1 away to Nottingham Forest) and they currently sit in 8th. Manchester City also dropped points (1-1 at home to Everton) and they currently sit second in the table, 7 points off leaders Arsenal. In their previous 35 meetings, City have won out 19 times compared to Chelsea’s 12. Only one team has scored in the previous 4 meetings (3-1 to City). For Chelsea, they need to start winning more football games. They are only ranked 12th in GPG (1.3) and they have the 8th-best home record in the league. As for Manchester City, they need to go on a big winning run. City are currently ranked 1st in GPG (2.8), but they only have the 4th best away record.

My Prediction: 1-1
