NXT Review: 17/12

Axiom VS Oba Femi

Credit: WWE

After a video package that really hyped this show up as a big deal, NXT in Lowell, Massachusetts kicked off with Axiom taking on Oba Femi! This was good fun, I like both of these guys a lot, and it’s always great to see Oba Femi looking strong! Axiom did do pretty well to be fair to him, getting in more offense than most people do as he used his quickness to strike Oba down, but in the end, Femi was able to catch The Spanish Superhero’s attempt at a Golden Ratio before The Ruler nailed one half of the NXT Tag Team Champions with Fall from Grace to get the win!

Meta-Four VS Zaria and Sol Ruca, Jaida Parker VS Wren Sinclair

Eddy Thorpe made it clear to Ava that whether she likes it or not, he will end the night as the new NXT Champion before Ashante “Thee” Adonis got the wrong idea after he saw Dion Lennox and Karmen Petrovic hugging! Zaria and Sol Ruca then teamed together in the next match as they clashed with Meta-Four! This was a decent match, the story was very easy to follow as whilst Lash Legend and Jakara Jackson work really together, the duo of Zaria and Sol are just two singles Superstars teaming together! Ultimately, Ruca and Zaria were able to pull out some good double-team offense as they started to click together, but in the end, the chemistry between The Meta-Girls was far too strong as Legend picked up the win with the Lash Extension!

Tyson Dupont wasn’t impressed with Tyriek Igwe’s attitude backstage, but the same could not be said for Wes Lee who told Tyriek that he’s got the mentality to go places in this business! OTM were then out next as it was time for Jaida Parker to go one-on-one with Wren Sinclair! This was another decent match, both of these women have broken out in 2024, and the crowd seemed into it which is always a good thing! It also looks like this is very much going to be a rivalry between the two factions too as OTM brawled with No Quarter Catch Crew, and in the end, it was Miss Parker who picked up the win after flooring Wren with the Hypnotic!

NXT Tag Team Championships: Axiom and Nathan Frazer VS Gallus, Ethan Page Speaks

Tatum Paxley, Shotzi, and Gigi Dolin were having fun playing with dolls before Fatal Influence called them “freaks”! Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn then appeared out of nowhere to try and get into the Heels’ heads before we got a terrific video package highlighting the pedigree of the NXT Women’s Championship! This was so good, and it literally included everyone! Speaking of Championships, the NXT Tag Team Titles were next on the line as Axiom and Nathan Frazer looked to pull it off again against Gallus! This was probably the best match of the night, I mean, it’s Axiom and Frazer so that’s just standard at this point, but I thought Gallus did well too! There was also a bit where I thought the Gallus Boys might actually win following Axiom accidentally flooring Nathan with a Golden Ratio, but of course, the Champs fought back well to win following their super Spanish Fly/Pheonix Splash combo!

Hank and Tank were chatting with Je’Von Evans about each other’s great years before we got a fun video where Lexis King trained with Charlie Dempsey in order to earn another shot at the NXT Heritage Cup! The King succeeded in his mission before Ethan Page headed out to the ring to speak his mind! The former NXT Champion talked about his Family, and how him losing now means that they’re losing, and he can’t cope anymore with his kids looking and not finding his NXT Championship! Ethan then said that he’s lost his smile and before he could say anything else, Je’Von Evans arrived to try and hype Page up and tell him that him and all of the rest of the NXT Universe want to see the real Ethan Page! All Ego agreed which is why he nailed Evans in the head with a microphone before he nastily stomped onto a steel chair which was on Je’Von’s neck as The Young O.G. had blood coming out from his mouth! Ethan Page was already an “Egomaniac”, but now he might be a psychopath too!

NXT Championship: Trick Williams VS Eddy Thorpe

Credit: WWE

After Oba Femi told Trick Williams that he hopes he faces him at NXT New Year’s Evil, it was Main Event time as Trick Willy put his NXT Championship on the line against Eddy Thorpe! This didn’t really click for me, I don’t enjoy watching Eddy Thorpe in the ring, but the crowd were at least behind Trick Williams! Interestingly, Eddy was screwed here as he had the match won had the referee not been knocked out, and the ending of the match was odd as Williams delivered a Trick Shot before both of the referees counted to three! Now, I saw this as Trick getting the win, but Thorpe having his foot under the rope! However, after the show, it was revealed that all four shoulders were down meaning they technically both won and lost, but Trick keeps the Title due to already being the Champion! It’s all a little confusing and feels a bit unnecessary, but okay!
