NXT Championship Contract Signing, Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley VS Wendy Choo and Rosemary

Ava was in the ring to start this week’s NXT as she looked to host a Contract Signing between Ethan Page and Trick Williams. However, this didn’t go very far as All Ego got angry at Trick for saying he stole the NXT Championship before he just put Williams through the announce table! This was a very odd way to start the night, but what I will say is I thought Ethan Page’s promo was really strong!

Tony D’Angelo got into a disagreement with Hammerstone backstage before Je’Von Evans asked Ava about potentially getting a match in St. Louis in a couple of weeks. It was then time for the first match of the night as Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley teamed up to take on the duo of Wendy Choo and Rosemary. This was a decent little match, nothing more, nothing less. Lyra and Tatum do work well together which is a plus, and I think it’s fair to say the same thing about Choo and Rosemary now. There was a good near-fall where Paxley put her foot on the rope following a Rosemary Spear, but in the end, it was the Babyfaces who picked up the victory after Valkyria hit a “Nothin’ but Net” type move.

Hammerstone VS Tony D’Angelo, Ashante “Thee” Adonis VS Eddy Thorpe, CM Punk Appears

Charlie Dempsey told Wren Sinclair that she needs to start creating opportunities for herself before Tony D’Angelo headed down to the ring to take on Hammerstone. Hammerstone showcased his power game here to control the proceedings, and then in an interesting development, D’Angelo just left meaning Hammerstone won by count-out! This came out of nowhere, but it certainly made a bigger impact for Tony D than if he’d just won!

Zachary Wentz called out Wes Lee after showing footage that showed Wes attacking Trey Miguel before Tyrese Haliburton agreed to help Ava with the NXT Championship Contract Signing! The Fatal Influence trash-talked the NXT Women’s Division before Lola Vice and Jaida Parker were shown to still not be getting on. Ashante “Thee” Adonis then handed a flower to a member of the crowd as Ashante was ready to take on Eddy Thorpe. This was another fine match, there wasn’t anything wrong with it, but there also wasn’t exactly anything notable about it either. I guess the big takeaway was Adonis was clearly more interested in the woman in the crowd than the actual wrestling match he was in, and that ultimately cost him as Thorpe took advantage to win with a DDT!

Thea Hail spoke about how much Ridge Holland broke her heart which is when Riley Osbourne said he’s going to make everything right next week. Before that, though, CM Punk arrived to cut a promo in front of the loud NXT Universe! Punk talked about how much he loves watching NXT because of the crowd, but also because he gets to see a bunch of young talent develop which is when he named drop a few people including Bron Breakker and Carmelo Hayes! Punk also praised Lexis King’s beard which made me laugh before Roxanne Perez’s music hit as The Prodigy came out to interrupt! Whilst she praised him at first, Roxanne quickly started taking shots at CM Punk before she said “I should’ve been a Drew McIntyre Fan” which is one heck of a line! The two then went back and forth for a little bit before Giulia arrived to send another warning message to the NXT Women’s Champion! I really enjoyed this, this was important for Roxanne Perez, you could tell that CM Punk was having an awful good time, and it also left a little bit of a teaser as Perez interrupted just before Punk was going to make a big announcement!

No Quarter Catch Crew VS Cedric Alexander and Je’Von Evans, Brooks Jensen VS Dion Lennox, Jacy Jayne VS Lola Vice

Kelani Jordan spoke about potentially hosting Open Challengers for her NXT Women’s North American Championship going forward which is when Wren Sinclair just came up to Kelani and slapped her! That’s one way to get a Championship opportunity! Tony D’Angelo then told The Family that he’s scared of Oba Femi which was another interesting development before No Quarter Catch Crew took on the pairing of Cedric Alexander and Je’Von Evans. This was a fine match, I thought Cedric and Je’Von worked well as a duo, and Myles Borne and Tavion Heights make sense as the Tag Team part of the NQCC. It was actually a pretty even contest for the most part, but after Kelani Jordan chased after and started a brawl with Wren Sinclair, Cedric and Je’Von took advantage and hit their finishers to score the win. It was then announced that Evans will face Randy Orton in St. Louis, and I think that’s the best matchup they could do!

Ridge Holland said he would punish Riley Osbourne next week before Shawn Spears accompanied Brooks Jensen down to the ring for his match with Dion Lennox. This was a very strange match as it didn’t flow particually great, but they told the story of Brooks mocking Dion by putting his glasses on. Lennox then caught Spears trying to pick them up, but this distraction allowed Jensen to hit a weird-looking DDT to pick up the victory. Again, I don’t really know what this was.

Wes Lee said he will end The Rascalz once and for all in Chicago before A-Town Down Under challenged Axiom and Nathan Frazer to a match for the NXT Tag Team Championships in St. Louis. Lola Vice then danced her way down to the ring as she went one-on-one with Jacy Jayne in what was the Main Event match of the night! The best bit about all of this was the commentary team as Booker T was loving The Fatal Influence’s presence at ringside. This was another match that was kind of just there, I’m still not convinced that turning Lola Vice Babyface was the right move, and it’s odd seeing Jacy Jayne in another trio’s faction again. After Vice scored the win with a back fist, Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx jumped her before Jaida Parker arrived to clean house.

NXT Championship Contract Signing

After Adrianna Rizzo gave Tony D’Angelo a pep talk, Tyrese Haliburton was in the ring to host the Contract Signing for the NXT Championship Match on October 1st in Chicago! The crowd booed Haliburton throughout, even though he was friends with Trick Williams. Ethan Page then arrived in a different suit to once again make it clear that this is the “Era of All Ego” which is when both guys finally signed the contract. However, the show wasn’t done there as CM Punk came out for the second time of the night to announce that he will be the Special Guest Referee for Page-Williams 2! The show then closed with a brawl, and this was effective enough!
