NXT Review: 12/11

Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer VS Meta-Four

NXT kicked off this week with Tag Team action as Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer once again teamed up, this time to take on Meta-Four! This was a decent start to the show, I’m particularly impressed with Stephanie Vaquer, and I really rate Lash Legend! It was pretty obvious who was going to win this match, but Lash and Jakara Jackson did a good job of trying to take the two stars down, but in the end, a double-knee combo was enough for Giulia and Vaquer to win! After the match, both women made it clear that they’ll see one another at NXT Deadline!

Men and Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge Qualifying Matches: Cora Jade VS Sol Ruca, Cedric Alexander VS Wes Lee, Trick Williams Gets Interrupted

After a video package explaining the rules of the Iron Survivor Challenge, we got our first Qualifying match of the year for said ISC as Cora Jade took on Sol Ruca! I thought this was an interesting match to put on because I would argue both women should be in this year’s Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge, but it almost feels a little bit like Sol Ruca’s push has stalled since all the new women have come in! However, I was completely wrong with that theory because Ruca actually won following a Sol Snatcher, and not only is that still the best finish in all of WWE, but also, what are NXT planning with Cora Jade because all she seems to do is lose?!

Karmen Petrovic was chatting with Dion Lennox backstage, but this was basically so Karmen could see Ashante “Thee” Adonis jealous! Dion and Brinley Reece then pitched a mixed Tag Team match for next week before Ava listened to all the NXT Tag Teams about why they deserve a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships! It was then time for a Men’s Iron Survivor Qualifying Match as Cedric Alexander took on Wes Lee! This was a good match, Wes Lee is killing it in the ring right now, and Cedric Alexander has always been underrated. I expected Wes to win this match, which is why I was properly stunned when Cedric kicked out of the Kardiak Kick! However, after an incident which saw Alexander go flying into an exposed turnbuckle, Lee was able to deliver a Meteora to pick up the 3 count and book his ticket to NXT Deadline!

Tony D’Angelo was eating in his Restaurant before Shawn Spears and Brooks Jensen walked in as Spears wanted to have a little chat about the NXT North American Championship. Interestingly, Spears said he wanted Brooks to fight Tony D next week, but this all seems to be a part of Spears’ bigger plan to take the Gold off of The Don! Trick Williams was then in the ring as the NXT Champion wanted to cut a promo about Ridge Holland, but instead, Andre Chase interrupted to say he’s not done with Ridge just yet. Trick then praised Mr. Chase for everything he's done during his time in NXT before he seemed willing to offer Chase a shot at his NXT Championship, only for Holland to come down and say that this is unacceptable! Interestingly, an agreement was made for a Number 1 Contender’s Match for Trick Willy’s NXT Title next week, but the more intriguing part is that if Ridge beats Andre Chase, Chase University will have to disband! I didn’t expect any of this, I think next week could, unfortunately, be the last class at Chase U!

Adriana Rizzo VS Nikkita Lyons, Je’Von Evans VS Lexis King: Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge Qualifying Match

Jaida Parker cut a video promo about how she’s going to win this year’s Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge before Eddy Thorpe got what he asked for as Ava gave him an ISC Qualifying Match of his own for next week! Adriana Rizzo was then looking for some revenge as she went one-on-one with Nikkita Lyons! This was a bit scrappy, felt like the old days of NXT 2.0, and it’s a little worrying for both women given how stacked the NXT Women’s Division truly is! After a competitive bout, it was Nikkita who picked up the win with her new finisher before Rizzo whacked Lyons in the back of the neck with a crowbar to stand tall!

Duke Hudson, Thea Hail, and Riley Osbourne went very happy with Mr. Chase backstage (it’s definitely the end) before Zaria got this week’s NXT Spotlight as she said it’s her time to become an Iron Survivor! Speaking of the Iron Survivor Challenge, it was time for another Qualifier on the men’s side of things as Je’Von Evans took on Lexis King! This was very much a match driven by the story as an accidental low blow early on the match wasn’t pounced on by Lexis King as Lexis is determined to win the right way! However, it’s clearly not helping him very much as Je’Von ultimately won with a great corkscrew senton! However, after the match, Evans did raise The King's hand so he seemed pretty pleased with that!

NXT Women’s North American Championship: Fallon Henley VS Kelani Jordan

Credit: Gerweck.net

After Nathan Frazer told Axiom he’d got himself an Iron Survivor Qualifying Match, and Hank and Tank (as well as Dante Chen) praised Lexis King, it was Main Event time as Fallon Henley put her newly won NXT Women’s North American Championship on the line against Kelani Jordan! This match was alright, it was decent enough, but I feel given the ability both women have, it probably could’ve and should’ve been better! I will say though that Fallon as the Women’s North American Champion works really well, she suits the role as well as you can hope for, and I hope she gets to do good things with it. Of course, in this match, it was Henley who picked up the win with a Fameasser, but she was very much helped by interference from both Jacy Jayne and Jazmyn Nyx! After the match, a mass brawl broke out between most of the Men’s Tag Team Division because why not?!
