NXT Review: 03/09

Trick Williams Starts the Show, Gallus VS Hank and Tank VS The Rascalz: NXT Tag Team Championships Number 1 Contender’s Match

NXT kicked off this week with Trick Williams coming down to the ring as The Anointed One straight away called out Pete Dunne. Instead, it was Ethan Page who answered the call by bragging in the face of Trick Willy before Pete Dunne arrived to start a brawl with Trick. This was a pretty short opening segment, but it set the tone for the night.

Grade: C+

Hank and Tank had an interaction with Gallus backstage before Jazmyn Nyx got cocky in front of Jaida Parker. It was then time for a Number 1 Contender’s Match as Gallus, Hank and Tank, and The Rascalz fought for a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships. This was a decent start to the show, The Rascalz are a lot of fun to watch whilst I really enjoy Hank and Tank. Gallus also played the veteran roles which definetly helped things, and they probably would’ve won the whole thing if it wasn’t for Je’Von Evans taking out Joe Coffey. The O.C. then arrived to screw over Hank and Tank and this ultimately opened the door for The Rascalz to pick up the victory! After this match, Axiom and Frazer’s backstage promo was interrupted by Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz who claimed that the Gold is coming home with them!

Lexis King VS Oro Mensah, Rosemary VS Tatum Paxley, Pete Dunne VS Trick Williams

Trick Williams and Pete Dunne had another backstage brawl before Lexis King was in the ring for his match with Oro Mensah. There wasn’t much to this match wrestling-wise, but there was a story at play. See, Oro had control of Lexis for the most part, but King started trash-talking Mensah’s Father which sent The Main Man off! The problem with this is Mensah’s emotions got the best of him and it allowed The King to steal a victory whilst also having his feet on the ropes!

Oba Femi found The D’Angelo Family and disrespected Adrianna Rizzo in what was a genuinely hilarious line! Tony D’Angelo wasn’t impressed by this so he gave Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo a match with the NXT North American Champion. Gallus then told No Quarter Catch Crew that they have their eyes on the NXT Heritage Cup before TNA’s Rosemary was back to tackle Tatum Paxley. This was another fine match, it got enough time that it wasn’t pointless, but there weren’t many memorable moments. However, after Tatum scored the win with her nice finishing move, Rosemary and Wendy Choo beat down on Paxley before Lyra Valkyria made a shocking appearance to save her former “friend”. This was unexpected, but the crowd massively popped for it so it worked!

Pete Dunne and Trick Williams were still brawling backstage which is when Ava made the smart decision to move the match forward. After Jordynne Grace announced that she will be on NXT next week, Pete and Trick were in the ring as their match was finally underway! This was pretty hard-hitting, with both men trying to take each other out. This whole feud has been booked pretty well, and I’m unsure whether the finish was the same. See, after a massive brawl around ringside, both Dunne and Williams went crashing through the announce table which resulted in a double count-out! Now, on the one hand that’s disappointing, but on the other, it proves the point that both men can’t stand one another!

Je’Von Evans VS Joe Coffey, Oba Femi VS Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, Jaida Parker VS Jazmyn Nyx

Ridge Holland cut a pretty good promo on Chase University before he disgustingly destroyed Duke Hudson’s MVP Trophy! Shawn Spears then thanked Brooks Jensen for having his back before it was time for Je’Von Evans and Joe Coffey Round 2! Unlike last week, this was pretty straightforward for Je’Von, with The Young O.G. getting most of the offense in like he really should’ve done last week! The rest of Gallus did try and get involved, but they were dealt with by Cedric Alexander before Evans hit a lovely corkscrew dive to pick up the 3 count!

Grade: C+

Lyra Valkyria and Tatum Paxley had a nice embrace backstage before Ava announced that Trick Williams and Pete Dunne will collide next week in a Last Man Standing Match! Oba Femi was then out next as he went one-on-one with Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo! I say one-on-one, but Oba absolutely dominated Stacks here as Tony D’Angelo was just forced to watch on. This was a sign that Oba Femi is a pretty unstoppable beast, and I liked this as The Ruler of NXT should be dominating smaller opponents like this! In the end, Femi delivered his Powerbomb to score the win as he stared straight at The Don!

Grade: B- (I liked it)

Ashante “Thee” Adonis’s flirting attempts towards Karmen Petrovic and Brinley Reece were stopped by Eddy Thorpe before Je’Von Evans convinced Wren Sinclair to give him an NXT Heritage Cup match against Charlie Dempsey! It was then time for the Main Event match of the night as Jaida Parker clashed with Jazmyn Nyx. This was a typical “it wasn’t good, but it also wasn’t bad” type of match for NXT, with Jaida and Jazmyn doing a couple of nice things, but otherwise not much. Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley did try to make their presence known in the match, but that didn’t exactly work as Miss Parker scored the win with the Hypnotic, but after the match, The Fatal Influence were the ones standing tall following the NYX Kick!

Grade: C+

Roxanne Perez Closes the Show

After The Fatal Influence basked in their glory backstage, Roxanne Perez made her way down to the ring to celebrate her latest victory at NXT No Mercy. The Prodigy talked about how she’s breaking records wherever she goes, and that’s why top free agents from Japan are coming over to her Division! Perez then called out Giulia, but her call was surprisingly answered by Chelsea Green who wanted her own taste of the NXT Women’s Championship! However, Giulia did then appear and laid out Ms. Green before we seemingly got a match set up for NXT’s debut on the CW Network! This feels like a big deal, and if NXT are able to book it as such, this could be massive!
