NXT No Mercy 2024 Review

NXT Tag Team Championships: Chase University VS Axiom and Nathan Frazer

NXT No Mercy 2024 kicked off with Chase University putting their NXT Tag Team Championships on the line in a rematch against Axiom and Nathan Frazer. This was a very fun way to start the show, it was fast-paced action with plenty of entertaining spots, including an amazing Spanish Fly into a Powerbomb by Andre Chase. I’ve honestly probably ran out of superlatives to praise Axiom and Nathan Frazer, but they once again showed out here! Their Superkick/Brainbuster combo is a thing of beauty and that led to a great near-fall, even though the Chase U backstabber was even better! Amazingly though, after Ridge Holland was taken out, Axiom delivered a Spanish Fly before Frazer hit an incredible Phoenix Splash to score the win and win back their NXT Tag Team Titles! That was awesome to see, and after the match, Ridge Holland showed his true colours by turning on Chase University before he delivered a DDT onto the announce table that saw Mr. Chase have to be stretchered out of the arena!

Wes Lee VS Zachary Wentz

After winning the TNA X-Division Championship on Friday, Zachary Wentz entered NXT No Mercy to take on his former brother and Tag Team partner, Wes Lee! I thought this was the best match of the night, the offense was both hard-hitting and incredibly fast, and you could tell that Wes Lee was willing to do anything to win. It was also really cool to see Zachary Wentz back on an NXT Premium Live Event giving all the crap he had to go through, but it was Wes who seemingly had his former MSK brother on the ropes. However, Lee got a bit too cocky, holding the X-Division Championship before he went to grab a Steel Chair. Before Wes could use, Trey Miguel arrived to stop him before Zachary Wentz hit this absolutely insane Canadian Destroyed! Wentz then threw Lee into the ring and hit an amazing UFO Cutter to beat The Kardiak Kid in what was a genuinely surprising result! However, I liked that a lot!

NXT Women’s North American Championship: Kelani Jordan VS Wendy Choo

The NXT Women’s North American Championship was the next Title to be defended as Kelani Jordan put her Gold on the line against Wendy Choo! This was probably the weakest match in-ring-wise on this show, it felt quite slow which probably wasn’t helped by the matches that came before them. It’s also an odd one because Kelani Jordan is known for her agility, and minus a couple of nice Frog Splashes, she didn’t use it that much. However, what I will say is after Wendy locked in her Sleeper Hold, I genuinely thought she’d won, but Jordan was able to eventually get out of it before Lani hit her Split-Legged Moonsault to secure the victory! After the match, Tatum Paxley arrived to choke out Choo.

NXT North American Championship: Oba Femi VS Tony D’Angelo

The next match on the show saw Oba Femi put his NXT North American Championship on the line against Tony D’Angelo! This was actually a pretty physical encounter, both men left it all out there, and you could tell by the end that both men were spent! Both men managed to kick out of each other’s finishing moves which was a little bit surprising, but yeah, this felt different to everything else on the show, and that’s a good thing! We also got to see the high in-ring IQ of Oba Femi who stole the crowbar out of the waistcoat pocket of Luca Crusifino, and after The Don started at his Family, Femi hit two more Powerbombs to seal another retention of his North American Title! I’ll be honest, the ending of this made me think this could be Tony D’s last appearance on NXT, but I’ve also said that a lot of times with a lot of different Superstars!

NXT Women’s Championship: Roxanne Perez VS Jaida Parker

In the penultimate match of the evening, Jaida Parker stepped into her biggest challenge to date as she looked to dethrone Roxanne Perez as the NXT Women’s Champion! This was a decent match, it wasn’t anything special, but there were some nice moves. Jaida Parker is definetly one for the future given how she’s doing already, and Roxanne Perez is one of the best Women’s performers in the world! The interesting thing to note was that Jaida managed to hit her finishing move, but the momentum behind it sent Perez out of the ring before Parker tried for it again, only to go smashing through the barricade! The Prodigy then delivered a Pop Rox onto the broken part of the barricade before Roxy delivered a second Pop Rox to Miss Parker in the ring to score the victory! After the match, the lights went out and Giulia arrived to give us an awesome stare-down! Roxanne Perez is awesome, but I’m not sure she’s going to be Champion for too much longer!

NXT Championship: Ethan Page VS Joe Hendry

After Trick Williams arrived as the Special Guest Referee, it was Main Event time at NXT No Mercy as Ethan Page put his NXT Championship on the line against TNA’s own, Joe Hendry! This match was odd, it was pretty slow which is what I expected, and the crowd were well into it which is also what I expected! However, there wasn’t as much drama as I hoped for, which was a shame given how well this feud has been booked. Joe Hendry thought he had the match won with his finisher, but Trick Williams fairly pointed out that Ethan Page’s foot was under the rope. Page then accidentally took out Trick Willy before Page was about to win, only for Trick to get back in the ring and stop the other ref from counting. However, this led to the other referee taking a bump and this distracted Williams which allowed All Ego to deliver a low blow to Joe before Page delivered a second Ego’s Edge to Hendry to score the victory to the reluctance of the counting Trick Williams! After the match, Ethan Page celebrated his victory as Pete Dunne arrived to take out Trick with a Bitter End! Like, this was good, but it could’ve and should’ve been better!
