NFL Week 5 Preview and Predictions: Part 1

(1-2-1) Indianapolis Colts @ Denver Broncos (2-2)

On this week's Thursday Night Football, The Denver Broncos hosts the Indianapolis Colts. The Denver Broncos suffered a defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders last time out and need to bounce back this week. They sit third in their division. As for the Colts, they were disappointing and lost at home to the Tennessee Titans. The Colts have underperformed so far and they sit third in the AFC South as a result of it. Overall, I’m picking the Denver Broncos to win this game. They should do anyway.

(3-1) New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers (3-1)

Who would have thought that after 4 games, the Packers and the Giants would be on the same record, I certainly didn’t. The Green Bay Packers managed to defeat the New England Patriots, but they weren’t particularly convincing. They are also currently second in the NFC North. As for the Giants, they beat the Chicago Bears in a game they should have won. However, don’t take anything away from the Giants, it’s been a long time since they’ve been in that position. The Giants do sit third in their division but that is what happens when you have the Eagles and the Cowboys with you. Overall, I am picking the Packers to win. They are the better team but, it’s not at Lambeau Field which should give the Giants some hope of pulling of the upset.

(1-3) Pittsburgh Steelers @ Buffalo Bills (3-1)

The Buffalo Bills pulled out a big win over the Baltimore Ravens. The team was losing 20-3 but a walk-off field goal meant they won the game 23-20. A mega day for the Bills but they stay second in the AFC East. As for Pittsburgh, they are really struggling right now. Losing at home to the Jets isn’t a good look for Mike Tomlin’s side and they now sit bottom of the AFC North. Kenny Pickett looks to be the starter from now on but how much of an impact will he have, only time will tell. Overall, I think that Buffalo will win this comfortably. These two teams are in completely different leagues right now.

(2-2) Los Angeles Chargers @ Cleveland Browns (2-2)

The Cleveland Browns are concerning. They should be 4-0 yet are 2-2. Last week, they lost to the Falcons by 3 points and, you wonder if they’re good enough to be anywhere near the playoffs. When six of your next 7 games are against teams that should be contending for playoffs spots, you’re in trouble. They are still top of the NFC North though which is something. As for the Chargers, they got an important win in Houston last week. It’s a game they should be winning but you never know anymore. The Chargers are second in the AFC West as they look to finally build some momentum. Overall, I am picking the Chargers to win. Could the Browns win, absolutely. Will they win, I doubt it.

(2-2) Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings (3-1)

The Minnesota Vikings pulled out a really good win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last week and will look to build on it. They have looked like a pretty solid team and they sit atop of the NFC North as a result of it. As for Chicago, they showcased in their loss to the New York Giants last week that they aren’t very good. They are 2-2 but they really haven’t looked like a team capable of challenging their division rivals. They sit third in the NFC North. Overall, I am picking Minnesota to win. It’s really that simple.

(1-3) Detroit Lions @ New England Patriots (1-3)

This is a game that the New England Patriots need to win. They came close to pulling off a huge victory in Green Bay, but they just fell short and they look to be without Mac Jones for a while. The Patriots sit last in the AFC East. As for Detroit, they scored 45 points, and still lost! Conceding 48 points against the Seattle Seahawks doesn’t fill you with much confidence when it comes to talking about the defense. The Lions are currently bottom of the NFC North. Overall, I am picking the New England Patriots to win. Their season would be over if they lost.

(2-2) Seattle Seahawks @ New Orleans Saints (1-3)

The New Orleans Saints have been disappointing so far. They were a team (like Philadelphia) that were seen as a potential dark horse for a big season but so far, it just has happened in New Orleans. They come back to America after playing and losing in London last week and they currently sit bottom of the NFC South. As for Seattle, they pulled of an impressive win in Detroit. I know that my Dad is happy with his side being 2-2 (given the situation in Seattle). The Seahawks sit third in the division as all four NFC West teams have 2 wins and 2 losses. Overall, I am picking the New Orleans Saints to win. They have to start performing at some point and also, Seattle haven’t shown that they can consistently play well. If they find that consistency, they will be looking pretty decent.

(3-1) Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets (2-2)

The Giants aren’t the only team in New York who has started surprisingly well. The Jets have pulled off two excellent away win against AFC North sides and they now host divisional rivals Miami. They sit third in the division knowing a win would take them above the Dolphins. Speaking of the Dolphins, they suffered their first defeat of the season last week in Cincinatti. The biggest concern with the Dolphins comes with Tua Tagovailoa who suffered another knock last Thursday. He will be out of action this week and that will fill the Jets with some confidence. Luckily for Miami, they have the best backup QB in the league (not including Jimmy G). Miami still sits atop of the AFC East though. Overall, I am picking the Dolphins to win. The Jets will push them, but the Dolphins are the stronger side.
