My 2025 FIA Formula 2 Predictions

Linus O'Howell

Can we say we’re officially back right now?! Well, it certainly feels like because like every year, I start the Motorsport Season off by making Predictions for the 2025 FIA Formula 2 Season! I did pretty terribly last year so I need to make amends, and I feel like this year’s Championship is a lot more over the place than last year’s! So, without further ado, let’s get predicting!

P22: Cian Shields

Credit: FIA Formula 2

Cian Shields is about to enter his first full season in FIA Formula 2! The 19-year-old British Irish racing driver is driving for AIX Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was second in the 2023 Euroformula Open Championship! The thing with Cian is he was pretty terrible in Formula 3 last year, I mean he didn’t score a single point, so there’s absolutely no reason to believe he’ll score points in a harder category!

P21: Rafael Villagomez

Credit: FIA Formula 2

For the second straight year, I’m predicting Rafael Villagomez to finish 21st in the Standings! The 23-year-old Mexican racing driver is driving for Van Amersfoort Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was P6 in the 2020 French F4 Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Rafael has driven in one full season where he finished 24th! Villagomez has never been a driver that excites me so I expect him to be towards the back of the pack once again!

P20: Max Esterson

After driving at the end of last year, Max Esterson is ready for a full crack in F2 machinery! The 22-year-old American racing driver is driving for Trident in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was third in the 2021 National Formula Ford Championship! Firstly, Trident are not a very good team in Formula 2, but secondly, it’s not like Max set the world alight in Formula 3 last year (he finished 21st) so I can’t really put him any higher!

P19: John Bennett

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

After scoring points in Qatar last year, John Bennett will be hoping for more in his first full season! The 21-year-old British (and) Irish racing driver is driving for Van Amersfoort Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he finished Runner-up in both the 2021 Ginetta GT5 Challenge and the 2024 GB3 Championship! Firstly, John’s resume is a lot better than the drivers that I’ve already spoken about, no doubt about it! However, Bennett is still with VAR, and that’s why I can’t see him doing all that much!

P18: Sami Meguetounif

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

After racing with Trident in Formula 3, Sami Meguetounif returns to the team for his first year in Formula 2! The 20-year-old French racing driver is driving for Trident in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was 4th in the 2020 French F4 Championship! I thought Sami did alright in Formula 3 last year, he won 2 Races, and I definitely think he’s clear of his teammate. However, the fact he’s at Trident is why I can’t put Meguetounif any higher!

P17: Roman Stanek

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Roman Stanek is back for a third year in Formula 2, but his first without Trident! The 20-year-old Czech racing driver is driving for Invicta Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was 4th in the 2019 ADAC Formula 4 Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Roman has competed in 2 seasons, winning 1 Race, and his highest Championship finish was P18 (2023)! I can’t understand how Stanek’s found himself at the reigning Teams’ Champions, it’s very odd, and even though I think he’ll do better than he did last year, I still expect Roman Stanek to be outclassed by his teammate!

P16: Alex Dunne

Credit: McLaren
Credit: McLaren

NEOM McLaren’s Formula E Reserve Driver Alex Dunne is ready for his first crack in F2 machinery! The 19-year-old Irish racing driver is driving for Rodin Motorsport in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won the 2022 F4 British Championship! The thing with Alex Dunne is I was really hyped him for last year given how impressive he’d been in British and Italian F4, and also in the GB3 Championship! However, Dunne failed to impress in Formula 3, finishing just 14th in the Standings, and that’s why I can’t put him very high this year!

P15: Sebastian Montoya

Credit: Formula Scout
Credit: Formula Scout

After a less-than-spectacular Formula 3 career, Sebastian Montoya finds himself at Prema for 2025! The 19-year-old Colombian American racing driver is driving for Prema Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was 4th in the 2021 Italian F4 Championship! Honestly, Sebastian’s junior record up to this point isn’t very impressive at all, his highest Championship finish in Formula 3 was 16th, and yet he finds himself at Prema! Ultimately, I’ve put Montoya 15th, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he finishes lower down!

P14: Kush Maini

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Kush Maini moves to DAMS for his third year in FIA Formula 2! The 24-year-old Indian racing driver is driving for DAMS Lucas Oil in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was second in the 2020 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Kush has competed in 2 full seasons, winning 1 Race, and his highest Championship finish was P11 (2023)! I very much see Maini as a midfield driver, he’ll have some good results, he’ll have some poor results, but ultimately, that’ll wind up with him being around this sort of area again!

P13: Joshua Durksen

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Joshua Durksen is looking to build off a really positive first year in Formula 2! The 21-year-old Paraguayan German racing driver is driving for AIX Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish was 2nd in the 2019 Formula 4 UAE Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Joshua managed to win 2 Races in his Rookie Season as he ultimately finished 10th! Joshua Durksen was certainly one of the surprise packages of F2 in 2024, and in theory, he should only grow from that this year! However, I’m not fully convinced, but I still think Durksen will massively outperform his teammate!

P12: Oliver Goethe

Credit: EverythingF1
Credit: EverythingF1

After a consistent run in Formula 3, Oliver Goethe rises another step up the Motorsport ladder! The 20-year-old Danish-German racing driver is driving for MP Motorsport in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won the 2022 Euroformula Open Championship! Ollie Goethe was really consistent over his two years in F3, and he remains a Red Bull Junior Driver because of it! Now, whilst I expect Goethe to be beaten by his MP teammate this year, I still think he’ll do well!

P11: Christian Mansell

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Christian Mansell heads to Rodin for his first year in FIA Formula 2! The 20-year-old Australian racing driver is driving for Rodin Motorsport in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he finished third in both the 2021 GB3 and 2022 Euroformula Open Championships! Whilst he never won a Race, Christian did pretty well in Formula 3, I mean he finished 5th last year, and that’s why I expect him to go well enough this year to be Rodin’s top scorer!

P10: Pepe Marti

Credit: EverythingF1
Credit: EverythingF1

2025 feels like a pretty important year in the career of Pepe Marti! The 19-year-old Spanish racing driver is driving for Campos Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he finished Runner-up in the 2022 Formula Regional Asian Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Pepe could only manage 14th in his Rookie Season, but he was at least able to win a Race (Yas Marina Sprint)! The fact that Red Bull have kept Pepe Marti in their ranks tells me a lot, its sort of quite similar to Isack Hadjar last year (and we know what he’s doing this year), and that’s why I think he’ll place higher this year. However, I still think there are better combos in this field than Marti and Campos!

P9: Dino Beganovic

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

After impressing over 2 weekends last year, Dino Beganovic’s expectations are high in his first full year in FIA Formula 2! The 21-year-old Swedish Bosnian racing driver is driving for Hitech TGR in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won the 2022 Formula Regional European Championship! In his two years in Formula 3, Dino managed to finish 6th in both seasons, and he also scored a Podium when he appeared in Abu Dhabi last year (in F2)! I find Dino Beganovic to be a pretty consistent driver, and I think he’ll do well this year! However, I do think that Beganovic will just be edged out by his teammate!

P8: Ritomo Miyata

Credit: ART Grand Prix
Credit: ART Grand Prix

After a really tricky first year in Europe, Ritomo Miyata is hoping that his second season will be a lot stronger! The 25-year-old Japanese racing driver is driving for ART Grand Prix in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he both the 2016 and 2017 F4 Japanese Championships, the 2020 Super Formula Lights Title, and both the 2023 Super GT and Super Formula Championships! When it comes to Formula 2, Ritomo really struggled to adapt, ending up just 19th in the Standings without a single Podium to his name! I feel like I’m taking a risk wherever I put Ritomo Miyata in these Predictions, last year was a disaster for him, but it’s not like he’s not super talented! I’m still cautious, which is why I haven’t put him any higher, but I think Miyata will do a lot better this year!

P7: Luke Browning

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Luke Browning once again sticks with Hitech as he embarks on his Formula 2 journey! The 23-year-old British racing driver is driving for Hitech TGR in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he won both the 2020 F4 British and 2022 GB3 Championships! In his two years in Formula 3, Luke managed to finish third in the Standings last year, and he also won the 2023 Macau Grand Prix! I rate Luke Browning highly, I think his ceiling is higher than almost anyone on this Grid, but Browning has a history of needing a year to adapt, so that’s why I’ve only put him to finish P7!

P6: Leonardo Fornaroli

Credit: Autosport
Credit: Autosport

The reigning FIA Formula 3 Champion Leonardo Fornaroli is ready to try and go back-to-back! The 20-year-old Italian racing driver is driving for Invicta Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won Formula 3 last year! My absolute favourite part about that is Leonardo didn’t win a single Race in his Championship-winning campaign, and he’s actually only won once in his entire single-seater career! Ultimately, Leonardo Fornaroli is the reigning F3 Champion so he has to be high in this list, he’s also moved to the team that won the Title last year, but I think 2025 is a little too early for Fornaroli to pull that off again!

P5: Arvid Lindblad

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

Arvid Lindblad definitely feels like the next big star in the world of Motorsport! The 17-year-old British Swedish racing driver is driving for Campos Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won the Formula Regional Oceania Championship earlier this year! Arvid has also previously won 6 Races in Italian F4, and he managed to win 4 Races on his way to 4th in his first and only year in F3 last year! If things go to plan this year, Arvid Lindblad will find himself in Formula 1 next year, I very much see that happening! Whilst he’s incredibly young, Lindblad has shown that he’s incredibly strong at adapting to new machinery, and that’s why I think he’ll end up in the Top 5 come Abu Dhabi!

P4: Gabriele Mini

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

If Prema are going to win something this year, there’s a good chance that it’s going to be with Gabriele Mini! The 19-year-old Italian racing driver is driving for Prema Racing in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finish came when he won the 2020 Italian F4 Championship! Gabriele is also a Runner-up in both FRECA (2022) and Formula 3 (2024), and he managed to score a Podium in his one and only Formula 2 weekend (so far)! Out of all of the Rookies, Gabriele Mini is the one I have the most confidence in right now, I think he’s great, and he’s not someone that I feel needs a year to bed himself in! Also, Mini’s record when working Prema is damn strong, so I think he’ll be the top Rookie this year!

P3: Richard Verschoor

Credit: Autosport
Credit: Autosport

I have reason to believe that Richard Verschoor’s 5th season in Formula 2 will be his best! The 24-year-old Dutch racing driver is driving for MP Motorsport in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he won both the 2016 SMP4 and F4 Spanish Championships! When it comes to Formula 2, Richard has competed in 4-full seasons, winning 4 Races, and his highest Championship finish was 8th last year! The thing with Richard Verschoor is he is incredibly consistent, and whilst some people could say he’s not particularly impressive, I would say otherwise! See, for the last two years, Verschoor has been with the worst teams on the Grid, and yet he still ends up inside the Top 10! Given Richard has moved to MP Motorsport now, a pretty strong team, I can genuinely see him being right towards the front of the pack in a year where I think experience could prove to be key!

P2: Jak Crawford

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

I think Jak Crawford is going to be really close to winning Formula 2 this year! The 19-year-old American racing driver is driving for DAMS Lucas Oil in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he finished second in both the 2018/19 NACAM Formula 4 and 2020 ADAC Formula 4 Championships! When it comes to Formula 2, Jak has competed in 2 seasons, winning 2 Races, and his highest Championship finish was 5th last year! I think this is a huge year for Jak Crawford because I think if he has a great year, he’ll go to Cadillac for 2026 (in some form of capacity)! Crawford is also the highest remaining driver from last year’s stacked field, and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he ended the year as Champion!

P1: Victor Martins

Credit: FIA Formula 2
Credit: FIA Formula 2

For the second straight year, I’m backing Victor Martins to become FIA Formula 2 Champion! The 23-year-old French Portuguese racing driver is driving for ART Grand Prix in 2025, and his highest-ever Championship finishes came when he won the 2020 Formula Renault Eurocup Title as well as the 2022 FIA Formula 3 Championship! When it comes to Formula 2, Victor has completed 2 full seasons, winning 2 Races, and his highest Championship finish was P5 (2023)! In a stacked field, I felt that Victor Martins was the one who was going to win Formula 2 last year, but that didn’t happen at all, he wasn’t even close! However, the field is less stacked this year, and the likes of Theo Pourchaire, Nyck de Vries, and Felipe Drugovich all won F2 in their third year! If I curse Martins again this year, it’s a disaster, but I really do think he’ll do it this year!
