Monaco Grand Prix Qualifying Review

Who has what it takes to take Pole Position at Monaco in the most important Qualifying session of the season?

Q1

In Qualifying 1; Logan Sargeant, Kevin Magnussen, Nico Hulkenberg, Zhou Guanyu and Sergio Perez were the 5 slowest drivers. Logan Sargeant put in a solid lap in Qualifying and was unlucky to just miss out on a spot in Q2. Haas had a terrible day as Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg locked out the 9th row of the grid whilst Zhou Guanyu struggled for pace despite going top of the session at one point. Sergio Perez, who was really relying on a good weekend for his championship challenge, crashed in a heavy impact at turn 1 to completely ruin his weekend. Max Verstappen topped Q1 by about two and a half tenths to Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda!

Q2

In Qualifying 2; Oscar Piastri, Nyck de Vries, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas all failed to make it into the top 10 shootout. Oscar Piastri put in a good performance and only missed out on a spot in the top 10 by 18 thousandths of a second whilst Nyck de Vries put in his best performance of the season. Alex Albon will be disappointed with 13th despite a good lap whilst Lance Stroll had a really bad session as he will only start 14th! Valtteri Bottas’ Alfa Romeo was clearly lacking pace. Max Verstappen topped Q2 ahead of Charles Leclerc by just under 2 tenths.

Q3

In Qualifying 3, Max Verstappen pulled out a 1:11.365 to take Pole Position in a brilliant Q3 session. Verstappen’s final sector was absolutely sensational and it was enough to beat Fernando Alonso to Pole. Charles Leclerc also pulled out a great lap to qualify 3rd whilst Alpine’s Esteban Ocon will line up for the Monaco Grand Prix in P4! Carlos Sainz could only manage 5th in his Ferrari whilst Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes will b massively disappointed with P6. Pierre Gasly will be disappointed with 7th despite a really good effort and George Russell certainly won’t be happy with P8. Yuki Tsunoda had a fantastic session to qualify 9th whilst Lando Norris rounded out the top 10 after a crash in Q2.
