Miami Grand Prix Race Review

Max Verstappen storms through from 9th to take victory in Miami

Max Verstappen looked inevitable as he took his third win of the season to extend his championship lead. His Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez finished second whilst Fernando Alonso took home another podium for Aston Martin.

The Most Notable Moments

Sergio Perez got away well from the front whilst Nyck de Vries went into the back of Lando Norris at turn 1. Max Verstappen quickly made his way through the field whilst Charles Leclerc was struggling to get past the Haas of Kevin Magnussen. Both Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly were doing a good job at sticking with Fernando Alonso whilst the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll were being massively held up in a “DRS train”. Carlos Sainz sped in the pitlane which earnt him a five-second penalty even though it didn’t affect his position come the end of the race. As the race went on, Max Verstappen extended the gap to his teammate Sergio Perez so by the time the double World Champion came out of the pits, he was only about a second behind the Mexican. That resulted in Max passing Checo into turn 1 to take the lead of the Grand Prix. Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc was finally able to clear Kevin Magnussen after some good battling whilst Lewis Hamilton was starting to charge through the field on his medium compound tyres. In the end, Lewis pulled off a brilliant overtake to clear Charles Leclerc for P6 and the only overtake that I thought was better in the race was George Russell’s pass on Carlos Sainz at the same corner.

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve only actually given out 1 ten for this race and it was of course for Max Verstappen. Max and Red Bull look like they’re racing F2 cars with how quick they look and F1 really needs to change this soon as otherwise, the rest of the season could be really bad. However, that shouldn’t take away from another great Verstappen victory. I also thought Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly had great races whilst Sergio Perez, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen all had good showings.

Drivers who had a Horror Race

In total, I’ve given out two 1’s for this race. The one goes to Oscar Piastri who has just had a terrible weekend. He finished P19 and was one of only two drivers to get lapped. The second 1 goes to Logan Sargeant. Sargeant finished last in his home race and after a positive start to the season, he’s really starting to struggle. I also thought Lando Norris and Nyck de Vries had pretty bad days as well whilst Zhou Guanyu struggled.
