Italian Grand Prix Preview: 5 big talking points heading into the weekend.

Can Max make it 5 wins in a row?

It’s getting to the point where I’m going to right about if anyone can beat Max for ever. Max won again in Zandvoort, but it was much closer than in Belgium. The problem for everyone else though is that this is a track that is most similar to Belgium and if anything, focuses even more on straight line speed which is definitely Red Bull’s strong suit. I would be surprised if Max doesn’t win this weekend, but we are in Monza and that has seen some crazy results in the past.

Will the crazy Monza Podium results continue?

The last few years have seen really different results at Monza. Last season, Daniel Ricciardo headed a McLaren 1-2. In 2020, Pierre Gasly pulled off a stunning victory ahead of McLaren’s Carlos Sainz and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll and in 2019, Charles Leclerc earnt an iconic victory back in front of the tifosi. To see a surprising result would be awesome but is very unlikely. The only realistic surprise podium that I could see is Esteban Ocon or Fernando Alonso if Alpine have a really good car, but I would be very surprised.

A new look Ferrari

Ferrari are celebrating 75 years of their car company and due to this, they have hints of yellow on their livery. The suits, gloves and helmets will all be in yellow. I really like the look, it’s very rare that you don’t see Ferrari in Red so that is pretty cool. The new look is great but is it going to improve their strategy calls and cars. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have suffered bad luck recently and also, the car hasn’t been as competitive as earlier on in the season. It will be interesting to see if they can get a positive result in front of their home crowd.

Can Daniel Ricciardo have a positive weekend?

Daniel Ricciardo has been pretty poor this season and has been horrendous since the announcement that he would be leaving McLaren. However, the Aussie’s best ever result and drive in papaya came at Monza last year where he went on to win the Italian Grand Prix. If Daniel Ricciardo has a bad weekend this weekend, he really is in trouble of being off the grid entirely next year. Hopefully, he has a good race and scores points.

A good weekend incoming for Lance Stroll?

Lance Stroll’s lowest race finish in the last 4 rounds is P11. Stroll is driving much better at the moment than he was at the start of the season and Monza is one of Stroll’s strongest tracks. He scored a podium here in 2020 and he even started on the front row in 2017 with a Williams after a terrific wet-qualifying display. Hopefully, with Aston Martin’s improved performance, Stroll can have his best weekend of the entire season.
