Friday Night SmackDown Review: 28/10

The Brawling Brutes VS Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa, Roman Reigns comes out to sort out the mess

This week's edition of Friday Night SmackDown started with the Brawling Brutes taking on the Bloodline’s Solo Sikoa and Sami Zayn. This match was alright, all four men know what they are doing but the biggest part of this match was the story between Sami Zayn and Jey Uso. Before the match, Sami had asked Jey not to get involved and at one point in the match, Butch was on the top rope. You could clearly tell that the master strategist Sami Zayn had a strategy in mind but that was stopped when Jey Uso pulled him out of the ring. The two were then bickering on the outside and as Solo tried to break it up, Ridge Holland bulldozed through Sikoa and Uso before Sami Zayn got back into the ring and got rolled-up by Butch for the 3 count. This was a massive win for the Brutes, they have now earnt themselves a shot at The Usos at Crown Jewel next Saturday and as for the Bloodline, this furthered their storylines nicely.

After the match, Sami and Jey continued to argue before Jimmy even got in his twin brothers face which was cool to see given we never really see tension between the two. All four guys than looked slightly scared as Roman’s Reigns music hit. You could tell that the head of the table was angry, but he still had to do his full entrance of course. Roman Reigns told Zayn and Uso to sort out their issues before Sami cut a promo asking Jey to let all of this anger go. He put his hand out to him before Jey shouted at him. Jey then trashed Sami for not being blood and you could clearly tell that this was upsetting Sami. In one of the best lines in recent WWE history, Sami Zayn told Jey what Roman had wished before the Right-Hand Man said, “I don’t give a damn what the Tribal Chief said”. Before this, Roman had been letting the two talk but after Jey said this, he turned angry. However, he ended up laughing after Sami said that Jey wasn’t feeling “very ucey” right now. Both Reigns, Sami and Jey were all genuinely laughing before Roman told Jey that he was going to remove the honorary off of Zayn’s shirt and call him Sami Uso. Paul Heyman then did some great marketing. The character work was great from everyone and the comedy almost hide the anger that was inside Reigns. In this segment, we had the guy with both world titles and two guys that could genuinely win the royal rumble. Great job WWE.

MMM VS The New Day, Ronda Rousey’s open challenge

The Viking Raiders had another one of their video’s and we are definitely getting closer to the return of both them and Sarah Logan. Back in the arena, it was time for the Maximum Male Models to take on the New Day. This match was short, Maxxine Dupri attempted to help her clients by distracting the New Day, but it didn’t really affect things too much as in the end, The New Day won with their weaker tag team finisher. The only reason this was here was it kept the New Day on TV.

Backstage, Sonya Deville was being interviewed and she once again took the opportunity to trash talk Liv Morgan. Morgan once again appeared out of nowhere and attacked the Jersey Devil before WWE Officials and referees had to split it up. The two will face off in a no disqualification match next week which I’m guessing is going to be pretty fun. Braun Strowman then cut a promo talking about how big Omos is and how strong he is. I’m sure the match will be fun, but the build certainly hasn’t been. Ronda Rousey came down to the ring and trash talked the fans. Her open challenge was then accepted by Emma of all people. I remember Emma but I haven’t seen too much of her. This match was not good. It was slow and pretty dull. On the basis of this match, I can’t see Emma being two big of a star in this company. After Rousey raked the eyes, Emma tapped out in the armbar meaning Rousey retained. I don’t ever want to watch this match again.

Backstage segments, Legado Del Fantasma VS Hit Row and Shinsuke Nakamura

Jey Uso was speaking to Paul Heyman in front of Roman Reigns’ door before Heyman told him that it would be better if his message comes from the Wiseman. This basically meant that Roman didn’t want to speak to Jey. Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler then talked backstage before Natalya came up to Rousey and told her that she would have beaten her had she answered her open challenge. Baszler’s response to this was to choke Natty out. I like Baszler. It was then time for Legado Del Fantasma to make their six-man tag team debut on the main roster. Hit Row came out before Shinsuke Nakamura revealed himself to be their tag team partner. I was happy to see Shinsuke back on SmackDown and getting to see Nakamura V Escobar was really cool. However, I didn’t like this match. It felt like Hit Row were in control for most of this and in the end, Shinsuke pinned Cruz Del Toro after hitting the Kinshasa. This is one of those few occasions where I’m not happy that Shinsuke won. No matter what, Legado should have won this match and it just doesn’t feel like they are being booked particularly well. That’s just my opinion though.

Roman and Paul, Knight and Ricochet, Karrion Kross VS Madcap Moss

In the Reigns lounge, Paul Heyman attempted to show Roman Reigns clips of Logan Paul boxing before Roman laughed off Paul’s chances. He told his Wiseman that Logan is never going to land a lucky shot on him and that he’s only had 2 matches. Paul then said that Brock Lesnar won the UFC title in his third match which was pretty funny. He then left after he had realised that he had annoyed his tribal chief. We then cut to Kayla Braxton as she attempted to interview LA Knight. The megastar hyped himself up before Ricochet told him that he will burst his bubble at some point. I am very much into a Knight V Ricochet feud. Karrion Kross then made his return to the blue brand to take on another returning superstar in Madcap Moss. After a rough few matches on this show, I thought this was pretty good. Karrion Kross looked great but my favourite part of this was Madcap Moss. I expected Kross to get the dominant win which would have really hurt Moss but that didn’t happen. Moss showcased his talent and he probably could have won this match if it wasn’t for Scarlett. Her distraction allowed Kross to drop Madcap before he hit the Kross Hammer to get the win. After this match, Kross locked in the Kross Jacket onto Moss and continued the submission hold whilst cutting a promo which was really cool. Overall, a good showing for both.

Bray Wyatt ends the show

Rey Mysterio cut a promo talking about how he is very excited for his Intercontinental Championship match next week. Imperium then attacked him before Gunther wrecked him with a chop. Their match should main event next week’s SmackDown. After this, it was time for another Bray Wyatt segment. Wyatt talked about how he loves being honest with the fans and that he’s in a good place knowing he doesn’t care about doing bad things. The lights then went black and a person appeared on the titantron. This was the same guy from last week’s vignette and he called Bray a liar. He then revealed himself as Uncle Howdy. It’s an interesting direction that’s for sure, but for whatever reason, I’m just not feeling these Bray Wyatt segments. I know I should be but I’m just not.
