Piastri Domination Gifts McLaren Home Win

A supreme Oscar Piastri never looked back as he dominated from Pole to take his second win of the season! George Russell pulled out another fantastic performance to take P2 for Mercedes whilst Lando Norris recovered to round out the Podium in McLaren’s second Home Race!

The Biggest Talking Points

At the start of the Race, Oscar Piastri and George Russell came close to touching into Turn 1, but they both came through unscathed as Lando Norris made a brilliant start to make his way up into third. However, a part of the reason why Lando’s start was so strong was because he started ahead of his Grid Box, meaning the Brit was handed a 5-second time penalty! There were then quite a few early pitstops, and one person that particularly gained from that was Esteban Ocon as Estie Bestie managed to jump ahead of a number of drivers, including Max Verstappen who had a slower than normal pitstop! Speaking of Max, he absolutely hated his soft tyres as he was despatched by both Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton, and a second slow stop led to Verstappen running last of anyone (which is just insane)! Out front, Oscar was building a lead as George remained ahead of Lando (who had served his penalty by this put), but the guys on the charge were the Ferrari’s as Charles Leclerc managed to clear Norris for third whilst Hamilton pulled off a couple of nice moves to make it up into 6th!

There was then an awful lot of fighting in the midfield between Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda, and Tsunoda actually took a bit whack out of the side of Sainz’s Williams, enough to cause the FIA to call for a Safety Car to pick up all of the loose debris! When the Race got back underway, Lewis Hamilton managed to pull off a great move to overtake Lando Norris for P4, but it only took a couple of laps for Norris to retake that 4th position! Further down in the field, Jack Doohan’s positive day was starting to come undone as he started to drop down the order (and out of the points) whilst Carlos Sainz was forced to retire as his damage was just too much (he was also given a time penalty for an incident with Kimi Antonelli)! The focus then turned to the battle for the final spot on the Podium as Charles and Lando got into a great scrap, coming close to touching wheels into Turn 4, but it was Norris who eventually came out on top as he tried (and failed) to hunt down Russell for second! On the final lap, Max Verstappen was able to get past Pierre Gasly to recover to P6 whilst Yuki Tsunoda also brought home Red Bull’s first double points of the season!

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve given out three 10’s for the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix, and the first one is obviously for Oscar Piastri! Oscar was in a world of his own today, he once again dominated from the front, and to win a Safety Car-affected Race by 15 seconds plus is mega! The second driver I’ve given out maximum points to is George Russell who is simply thriving right now! George is continuing to impress for Mercedes, taking a third Podium of the season, and that’s super impressive given all his car issues! And the final driver I’ve given a Perfect 10 to is Pierre Gasly, and my goodness me did Pierre do well today! Like, Pierre’s pace was supreme throughout the Race, I meant the Safety Car actually hurt him overall, but even despite losing out to Max Verstappen on the final lap, 6 points for Alpine is fully deserving of a 10 for the Gasman! Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc both also scored good points all things considered, and a massive shoutout to Haas with Esteban Ocon taking home a fabulous P8 whilst Oliver Bearman recovered from last to earn a point too!

Drivers Who Had a Shocker

For the second time this season, I haven’t given anyone a 1, and I think that’s simply because no one really stood out as being worse than the rest. However, Aston Martin had a shambolic day as a team, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll P16 and P18 respectively, and Liam Lawson’s decent pace was kind of ruined by him picking up a time penalty! Gabriel Bortoleto also finished last on the road, but I don’t think you can go fully in on him either!
