2024 Monaco Grand Prix Race Review

The Monegasque Prince Finally Wins at Home

After years upon years of trying, Charles Leclerc is finally a winner at home as Charles took the chequered flag first to seal a very popular victory! McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took home a really positive second place whilst Carlos Sainz rounded out the Podium to make it a Ferrari 1-3!

The Biggest Talking Points

The big talking point happened at the start as Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri made contact which resulted in Carlos getting a puncture. However, Sainz’s Race was saved by a Red Flag that was caused from a horrible crash between Sergio Perez and the two Haas cars. What happened here is Kevin Magnussen decided against backing out and this absolutely destroyed Checo’s Red Bull whilst Hulkenberg was unfortunate to get spun round in the process! Also, later around the lap, the two Alpine’s collided as Esteban Ocon sent a stupid move up the inside of Pierre Gasly which actually resulted in Ocon retiring and receiving a penalty for the next Race (in Canada)! When the Race got back underway, Charles Leclerc led Oscar Piastri into Turn 1 and that’s basically all that happened. Like, seriously! It was simply too difficult to overtake, and that was very much evident when Max Verstappen couldn’t pass George Russell despite having a superior pace and tyre advantage! The only other thing of note was Fernando Alonso backed up the pack to allow teammate Lance Stroll a free pitstop, only for Stroll to clip the way at the chicane and pick up a puncture!

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve only given out one 10 for today’s Monaco Grand Prix and that is obviously for Charles Leclerc. Charles pretty much won the Race yesterday, but he still managed to bring it home for what was a very popular victory! Oscar Piastri, Yuki Tsunoda, and Alex Albon also deserve massive praise for the results they managed to achieve whilst Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, George Russell, and Pierre Gasly also had really good days!

Drivers Who Had a Shocker

In total, I’ve given out two 1’s for today’s Race, and the first one is for Esteban Ocon. I cannot understand why Esteban decided to send it on his Alpine teammate into Turn 1, and it’s probably cost him a chance at points in 2 Races now given his penalty for Canada! The other driver I’ve given the lowest possible grade to is Kevin Magnussen because for me, K-Mag is completely to blame for the Lap 1 incident! How Magnussen hasn’t been banned yet is beyond me! I also thought Lance Stroll, Logan Sargeant, and Zhou Guanyu had pretty disappointing days, but at least Lance made a couple of good overtakes!
