After a Sprint earlier in the day, it was now time for the Teams and Drivers to switch focus to Qualifying for the (main) Grand Prix.
Q1
In Qualifying 1; Valtteri Bottas, Logan Sargeant, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, and Zhou Guanyu were the five slowest drivers. Valtteri Bottas was unfortunate to miss out on Q2 by just 10 thousandths of a second whilst Logan Sargeant was also unlucky to get knocked out in his Williams. Daniel Ricciardo’s day turned upside down with a pretty disappointing Qualifying performance whilst Kevin Magnussen will also be very disappointed with P19. Zhou Guanyu was the slowest man in Qualifying after another disappointing Quali session. Max Verstappen topped Q1 ahead of teammate Sergio Perez for a Red Bull 1-2!
Q2
In Qualifying 2; Lance Stroll, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Alex Albon, and Fernando Alonso all failed to make it into the Top 10 shootout. Lance Stroll will be frustrated to have missed out on a spot in Q3, but he can pleased to have out-qualified his Aston Martin teammate for the second time this weekend. Alpine will start 12th and 13th as Pierre Gasly finally beat Esteban Ocon whilst Alex Albon will start P14 in his Williams. Fernando Alonso was the slowest man in this session, and I’m honestly so confused as to what’s going on with him this weekend. Charles Leclerc actually managed to top this session for Ferrari, just ahead of Max Verstappen.
Q3
In Qualifying 3; a 1:27.241 was enough for Max Verstappen to take yet another Pole Position! For a guy who isn’t as known for his Qualifying pace as his Race pace, Max is looking pretty unstoppable on a Saturday right now! Charles Leclerc managed another superb P2 for Ferrari, ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz, whilst Sergio Perez will start 4th in the other Red Bull. McLaren locked out the third row of the Grid as Lando Norris beat Oscar Piastri whilst George Russell will start ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton in an all-Mercedes 4th Row. Nico Hulkenberg then managed another great Qualifying session to get his Haas into P9 whilst Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the Top 10.
