2024 Hungarian Grand Prix Race Review

Super Piastri Takes Maiden Victory in Hungary

Oscar Piastri drove a superb Race to take a very well-deserved Maiden Victory! Lando Norris completed a McLaren 1-2 after some questionable shenanigans whilst Lewis Hamilton came home to take his 200th career Podium!

The Biggest Talking Points

At the start of the Race, Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, and Max Verstappen went three wide into Turn 1, with Oscar getting out in front whilst Max overtook Lando off the track after being forced off the circuit. Verstappen ultimately gave the position back, and he wasn’t best pleased! It then got worse for Max as he got undercut by Lewis in the first round of stops, and he went off at Turn 2 whilst trying to overtake Hamilton for third. At the front, a small error from Piastri moved Norris within a couple of seconds before McLaren made an interesting move to box Lando first (in the second stint) and he ultimately managed to undercut his teammate for the lead!

As the Race got closer to ending, Lando Norris started to pull away from Oscar Piastri as Lando made it clear that he didn’t want to give the lead up which didn’t impress his Race Engineer one bit! Elsewhere, Max Verstappen was absolutely furious with his Race Engineer GP before Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton came together once again, with Max going airborne and losing a place to Charles Leclerc in the process! Back at the front, Lando eventually let Oscar through for the lead, and if I’m being honest, I wasn’t impressed with Norris’ actions in this Race, but to be fair to him, I was even less impressed by McLaren (again)! Anyway, in terms of the rest of the field, both Sergio Perez and George Russell managed to climb their way through the field whilst Yuki Tsunoda’s 1 stop saw him just hold off Lance Stroll for P9!

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve only given out one 10 for today’s Hungarian Grand Prix and that is obviously for Oscar Piastri! Whatever happened today, Oscar deserved the win, he was brilliant to lead the first 50-odd laps of the Race, and yeah, what a special talent! I also thought Lewis Hamilton did a great job to finish on the Podium Yuki Tsunoda did superbly to make a 1 stop work, and Charles Leclerc had a good and clean afternoon!

Drivers Who Had a Shocker

I’ve only given out one 1 for today’s Race and that is unfortunately for Zhou Guanyu. I honestly don’t understand what’s going on with Zhou, he’s just nowhere! I also thought Esteban Ocon had a difficult day whilst Logan Sargeant struggled a little!
