With mixed conditions in the air, it was all to play for ahead of one of the most important Qualifying Sessions of the Season!
Q1
In Qualifying 1; Sergio Perez, George Russell, Zhou Guanyu, Esteban Ocon, and Pierre Gasly were the five slowest drivers. Sergio Perez’s form clearly isn’t getting any better as he smashed his car to bring out an early Red Flag whilst George Russell had a shocking day to get knocked out in his Mercedes. Zhou Guanyu once again struggled for pace in Qualifying whilst Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly ended up as the two slowest drivers after Alpine made an error in not sending their drivers out at the end! It was the Visa Cash App RB of Daniel Ricciardo that topped Q1, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes!
Q2
In Qualifying 2; Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas, Alex Albon, Logan Sargeant, and Kevin Magnussen all failed to make it into the Top 10 shootout. Nico Hulkenberg was very unfortunate, just 1 hundredth off Q3, whilst Valtteri Bottas did a really good job to take P12 for Kick Sauber! Williams locked out the 7th Row, with Alex Albon ahead of Logan Sargeant, whilst Kevin Magnussen ended up slowest in the second part of Quali! Lando Norris topped Q2 for McLaren, some 2 and a bit tenths clear of Max Verstappen!
Q3
In Qualifying 3, a 1:15.227 was enough for Lando Norris to take an important Pole Position! Whilst the ending was anti-climactic, Lando did a great job today, and you have to fancy him for a victory tomorrow! Oscar Piastri was just 22 thousandths behind to complete a McLaren 1-2 whilst Max Verstappen will have to settle for third, despite being less than half a tenth away from the fastest time! Carlos Sainz did well to get his Ferrari into P4, ahead of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, whilst Charles Leclerc will start 6th after an alright session. Aston Martin will be pleased with their day as Fernando Alonso headed Lance Stroll in an all-Aston 4th Row whilst Daniel Ricciardo beat his VCARB teammate Yuki Tsunoda to 9th after Yuki wrecked his car late on!
