2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix Preview: 5 Big Talking Points Heading into the Weekend

Imola Returns to the Calendar!

For the first time in two years, Formula 1 heads back to Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix! F1 first returned to Imola back in 2020 due to the Pandemic, before it hosted a very exciting 2021 Race and a not-so exciting 2022 Race! Unfortunately, last year’s weekend had to be cancelled due to horrible weather and flooding in the area/region, but thankfully, everything seems to be okay now and F1 is ready to return! A cool thing for a lot of people is this is their first time seeing Imola live, and it’s also the first time I’m writing about it which is quite cool (I started August 12, 2022)! So yeah, enjoy everyone, and remember that Qualifying is usually key around the famous circuit.

Can Oscar Piastri Score His First Podium of the Season?

To be fair to Oscar Piastri, he’s had a pretty decent start to the year! Oscar’s currently 6th in the Drivers’ Championship, and he’s only failed to not score points on one occasion. That occasion was Miami last time out, and the interesting thing to note about that is had things fallen better for the Australian, I think he could’ve and would’ve won the Race for McLaren (but obviously a certain someone did that instead)! It’s also worth mentioning that Piastri only had half of the upgrades in Miami, so that’s a very promising sign for both McLaren and Oscar fans! So, will Oscar Piastri score his first Podium of the season this weekend, I think he’s got a great chance!

Ferrari’s First Home Race

Ferrari are pretty damn popular whenever they appear at the Formula 1 Circuits, but the place become a bit of a frenzy when they return home! Of course, Ferrari’s main Home Race is Monza, but that doesn’t mean the Tifosi treat this weekend any differently! In terms of Ferrari, they’re having a pretty good year so far, they’re comfortably second in the Constructors’ Championship, and Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are 3rd and 5th in the Drivers’ Championship respectively. Also, Ferrari are bringing plenty of upgrades this weekend so that’ll be interesting to see if that helps them or not, but a thing that is worth remembering is Ferrari haven’t exactly gone well around Imola since it’s return in 2020!

Can Visa Cash App RB Continue Their Upward Trajectory?

After a difficult first couple of weekends, Visa Cash App RB have very much started to perform at a level that some people were expecting before the season even started! Yuki Tsunoda scored good points in both Australia and Japan whilst Daniel Ricciardo impressed in China (we won’t talk about what happened in the end). And then in Miami, VCARB nearly tripled their points tally as Danny Ric finished in an incredible P4 in the Sprint (Tsunoda also scored a point) before Yuki finished the Grand Prix in a superb P7! So, if Daniel and Yuki can perform at their best and VCARB keep improving their car, I wouldn’t put it past them making a dent into their gap with Aston Martin!

Lando Norris is a Grand Prix Winner!

I’m pretty certain that if I asked my readers, they would say that this is their favourite thing they’ve ever read on my site! On a serious note, Lando Norris did win the Miami Grand Prix so he can head into Imola with a little bit less pressure on his shoulders. In actual fact, that’s quite scary for some of the other team’s and driver’s because Lando was already a top-quality driver, so if he starts getting even stronger, there’s no reason why Norris can’t break into the Top 3 in the Drivers’ Standings. In terms of this weekend, I’d say it will be hard for Lando Norris to repeat his feat from Miami, but I definetly think a podium is on for F1’s newest Race Winner!
