2024 Dutch Grand Prix Preview: 5 Big Talking Points Heading into the Weekend

Formula 1 is Back!

That’s right, after a 4-week hiatus, Formula 1 is officially back from it’s Summer Break! We saw a lot of great things in the first half of the year, I mean 7 different drivers won Races, and two of them were Maiden Wins! Also, with 10 Rounds to go, there’s still a lot to play for, particually in the Constructors’ Championship, and I’d say this is a pretty good time to start getting excited again! But first, I need to remember how to do this!

Carlos Sainz is Williams Bound!

One of the big, if not the biggest news in the F1 Summer Break was when Carlos Sainz finally announced he will be driving for Williams in 2025 (and beyond)! Now, there’s some people that are happy about this, I for one am excited post the end of next year, but there’s also a lot of people who are right to feel that Carlos deserves better. However, Sainz has still got 10 Races to go with Ferrari, he’s only 15 points behind his teammate in the Drivers’ Standings, and Carlos is also arguably the most consistent driver on the Grid so you can bet he’s going to be gunning for another win before the end of Abu Dhabi!

How Will George Russell Bounce Back After Disqualification?

George Russell deserves a lot of praise for his half of the season, he’s been really good, he’s taken 2 Pole Positions, and he won in Austria. However, the last time I did a Race Review, George had won, until he hadn’t! Now, I’m not going to get into that, but what I will say is he deserved to win that Race, it just clearly wasn’t meant to be. However, what I’m interested in is seeing how Russell bounces back because that will probably play a big part in the Brit’s second half of the year!

Sergio Perez is Still Here!

Yes, despite a lot of speculation surrounding his future, Sergio Perez is sticking around with Red Bull till at least the end of the season! It’s no secret that since Miami (where he finished 4th), Checo has had a horrid time of things, and he’s currently 7th in the Drivers’ Championship, some 146 points behind his teammate! I’m honestly not surprised that Perez has stayed at Red Bull, it makes sense financially, but for Red Bull’s sake, Sergio has to turn his form around as otherwise, they can kiss that Constructors’ Championship goodbye!

The Return of the Champ!

Out of all of the atmospheres that Formula 1 has in different countries, I don’t think there’s any better than the Dutch, and it certainly helps when you have a World Champion to root for! Despite Red Bull’s recent struggles, Max Verstappen is still 78 points clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, and you have to remember that Max has won 50% of the Races this year (which is still a good amount, even if it’s not the same as it was last year). Now, Verstappen’s last win was “all the way back” in Spain, some two months ago, so if he wasn’t already fired up, Zandvoort might just have awoken the lion! Oh, and Max is 3-for-3 when it comes to taking Pole and Winning here!
