2024 British Grand Prix Race Review

Hamilton Finally Wins in Ever-Changing British Grand Prix

After over 2 and a half years, Lewis Hamilton came across the line to finally take victory again! Max Verstappen came home in a pretty impressive P2 whilst Lando Norris rounded out the Podium in what was a really entertaining British Grand Prix!

The Biggest Talking Points

At the start of the Race, George Russell got off the line well to lead into Turn 1 whilst Max Verstappen was able to get past Lando Norris for third. The focus at the start of the Race was all about when the weather was going to be coming, but that didn’t stop there being action on track as Lando was able to reovertake Max for third at Stowe Corner (or as I like to call it Jessy’s Corner) before Verstappen dropped down to 5th as the other McLaren of Oscar Piastri came breezing through! The rain then started to fall and this seemed to catch out George Russell who lost the lead to his teammate Lewis Hamilton before Norris managed to go past both and into the lead! Piastri also showed that McLaren loved these conditions by getting himself past both of the Merc’s before the rain started to dry up. This ultimately cost Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez massively as they’d already pit for intermediate tyres! However, the rain was then back and it was coming down a lot harder which left the teams and drivers the choices of whether to come in to fit the Inters or not. In the end, it was McLaren who messed up as them deciding to keep Oscar out for a lap longer than everyone else meant he dropped all the way from 2nd to 6th!

On the inters, it was Lando Norris who led from Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen as a water issue resulted in George Russell having to cruelly retire from his home Race after having a pretty good Race so far (even if he had lost the lead a little earlier on). Amazingly, it then started to dry up again and it was Hamilton who managed to pull off the undercut on Norris to take the lead of the British Grand Prix. Interestingly, both Lewis and Lando were on softs, and this really seemed to hurt the McLaren driver whilst a certain Max Verstappen was starting to fly on his hard tyres! This ultimately led to Verstappen dispatching Norris for second as he hunted down Hamilton for the win. Elsewhere, Lance Stroll was hunting down Nico Hulkenberg after a strong afternoon for both men whilst Lewis was able to hold on to take a historic 104th Grand Prix Victory!

The Standout Drives in the Race

I’ve given out two 10’s for today’s British Grand Prix and the first one is obviously for Lewis Hamilton. Lewis was absolutely brilliant today, drove such a smart and controlled Race, and he deserved to win again today! The other driver I’ve given out maximum points to is Nico Hulkenberg who once again managed to take a sensational P6 for Haas! I also thought Max Verstappen had a great drive to finish second (what a weird thing to say), Alex Albon did a great job to score a couple of points for Williams, and Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Lance Stroll, Yuki Tsunoda, and George Russell all had good days even if the result maybe wasn’t maximised (for some of them at least).

Drivers Who Had a Shocker

In total, I’ve only given out one 1 for today’s Race and that is unfortunately for Zhou Guanyu. It’s a shame, but Zhou had no pace today and he ultimately finished 2 laps off the lead! I also thought Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez had poor outings whilst Charles Leclerc had yet another difficult Race for Ferrari!
