2024 British Grand Prix Preview: 5 Big Talking Points Heading into the Weekend

George Russell is a 2-Time Grand Prix Winner!

After a crazy Austrian Grand Prix, it was George Russell who took the chequered flag first to take his second-ever Formula 1 Race Victory! George deserved to win in my opinion and it continues what has been a great season for the Brit and honestly one that’s not getting the praise and respect it deserves. Russell heads into this weekend just 7 points off of 5th in the Championship, and if the Mercedes driver can go strong at his home Race, he could well end up there come the end of Sunday!

Which Max Verstappen Will We Get This Weekend?

Ah, after a couple of years of dominating at the front, winning nearly every Race by a country mile, Max Verstappen got pushed more than he wanted last weekend and it ultimately resulted in him causing an incident that dropped him from 1st to 5th. I’ve seen a lot of things about Max, is this him going back to his earlier self, has he always been the same and we just haven’t seen it because he’s been so far in front? They’re all valid questions, and I can’t answer them, but I would say this feels like Verstappen 4.0! Either way, this is clearly good for the sport as a whole, and Max knows he’s entering hostile territory this weekend!

Lewis Hamilton’s Last Home Race For Mercedes

After 12 years, Lewis Hamilton is about to take part in his final British Grand Prix as a Mercedes driver! In his 11 home Races with Mercedes, Lewis has won 7 times, and he’s only finished off of the Podium once (P4 in 2013) which is honestly a very impressive record! Whilst 2024 hasn’t been the easiest of year’s for the 7-time World Champion, Hamilton is so good around Silverstone that you can’t rule him out from being right at the front again!

Can Logan Sargeant Score a Point this Weekend?

I know what you’re thinking, I totally get it. Logan Sargeant has only scored 1 point in Formula 1, and that was because of two drivers in front of him getting disqualified. However, Logan’s record around Silverstone is extremely impressive! Sargeant has won around here in F4, F3, and F2, and the American driver also arguably had his best drive of his Formula 1 Career 12 months ago when he came home 11th, just 4 seconds behind the Ferraris. Of course, the Williams isn’t as good this year, but I wouldn’t rule Logan out of at least making it into Q2!

Lando Norris’ Big Weekend!

Whilst Lewis Hamilton will always have the crowd behind him, I think there’s a pretty good chance of Lando Norris being the fan favourite at Silverstone this weekend. And why wouldn’t he be, Lando is an amazingly talented driver that currently sits second in the Drivers’ Championship, and he’s simply very marketable and liked by an awful lot of people (and all the props to him for that). However, the thing that interests me is Norris was always going to try and win this weekend, and that was before what happened in Austria last weekend. See, not only did Max Verstappen (and arguably his teammate Oscar Piastri) get one up on him in the Sprint, but there was also that pretty controversial incident between Norris and Verstappen which actually took Lando out of the Race completely. So, if Lando Norris wasn’t fired up to win before, he certainly is now!
