In a wet and tricky Spa, the drivers had to stay focused to qualify as high up on the Grid as possible for the Final Race before the Summer Break!
Q1
In Qualifying 1; Nico Hulkenberg, Kevin Magnussen, Yuki Tsunoda, Logan Sargeant, and Zhou Guanyu were the five slowest drivers. Haas had a disappointing day as both Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen were eliminated in Q1 whilst Yuki Tsunoda had a terrible outing, even though it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things (but it does to me)! Logan Sargeant was then absolutely nowhere in P19 and the same could be said for Zhou Guanyu who was once again 20th and last! Oscar Piastri topped Q1 for McLaren ahead of the Alpine of Pierre Gasly!
Q2
In Qualifying 2; Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas, and Lance Stroll all failed to make it into the Top 10 shootout. Alex Albon will be gutted to have missed out on a Q3 appearance by just 3 thousandths of a second whilst Pierre Gasly will be disappointed to have been knocked out given his pace in Q1! Daniel Ricciardo will start P13 for Visa Cash App RB ahead of the Kick Sauber of Valtteri Bottas (who did a good job) whilst Lance Stroll was absolutely nowhere and ended up slowest in Q2! It was Max Verstappen who topped Q2, a couple tenths clear of Lewis Hamilton.
Q3
In Qualifying 3; a monster 1:53.159 was enough for Max Verstappen to take Pole by some 6-tenths of a second! This was Max at his best, but he ultimately won’t start on Pole due to taking a 10-place Grid Penalty! That honour will go to Charles Leclerc who pulled out a sensational lap in his Ferrari whilst Sergio Perez made a great recovery to qualify P3! Lewis Hamilton will start third after a good lap whilst Lando Norris will start ahead of Oscar Piastri after a difficult day for McLaren. George Russell was off the pace in P7, as was Carlos Sainz in P8, whilst Fernando Alonso beat his old teammate Esteban Ocon in the fight to not be the slowest in the session!
