2024/25 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 9

Brentford 4-3 Ipswich

Credit: BBC

Brentford somehow edged past Ipswich Town in what was a crazy game at the Gtech! After 28 minutes, it was Ipswich who had the lead as Sammie Szmodics finished nicely! Just 3 minutes later and it was 2-0 to the visitors as George Hirst scored with a great finish himself! In the 44th minute, it was 2-1 as Yoane Wissa scored before the teams went into the break all square as Harry Clarke scored an unfortunate own goal! Early in the Second Half and Brentford were awarded a penalty after Harry Clarke committed the foul, and it was Bryan Mbeumo who stepped up and scored to complete the hosts’ comeback! However, things then got worse for Ipswich as Harry Clarke was sent off, but despite this, in the 86th minute, Liam Delap found the back of the net to surely rescue a shock point for the visitors?! However, in the 93rd minute, Bryan Mbeumo’s cross somehow found the back of the net to nick all 3 points for the hosts! Overall, this was a crazy game, and an important win for Brentford! The Bees rise to 9th in the league and they play Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup tonight before they go to Fulham next Monday! As for Ipswich Town, I don’t have words for how they’ve failed to get a result from this game! The Tractor Boys now find themselves inside the Relegation Zone and they host Leicester next time out!

Leicester 1-3 Nottingham Forest

Credit: SportsMax

Nottingham Forest’s brilliant run continued with a great victory away at Leicester City! After a silly error by Facundo Buonanotte, Nottingham Forest had the lead in the 16th minute through Ryan Yates! Just 7 minutes later though and it was 1-1 as Jamie Vardy found the back of the net! Mads Hermansen then pulled out a terrific save to deny Nicolas Dominguez before Forest had the lead again just 2 minutes into the Second Half through Chris Wood! This was a great finish! Callum Hudson-Odoi then struck the post before a mess at the back allowed Chris Wood to score again to seal all 3 points for the visitors! Crazily enough, Forest should’ve scored more, but Ryan Yates smashed the ball over from just a few yards out! In the end, it’s not the best of results for Leicester City! The Foxes drop to 15th in the table and they go to Manchester United tomorrow before a big away game at Ipswich! As for Nottingham Forest, they’re absolutely flying right now! Forest rise to 7th in the league and they host West Ham next time out!

Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool

Credit: TNT Sports

There was nothing to separate Arsenal and Liverpool in a Top of the Table clash! After just 9 minutes, Arsenal had the lead as Bukayo Saka smashed the ball into the back of the net! Just 9 minutes later though and it was 1-all as Virgil van Dijk tapped home from close range! Mikel Merino then had a great chance which he made an absolute mess of before Merino did find the back of the net to restore the hosts’ advantage heading into Halftime! However, it wasn’t enough for the win as in the 81st minute, Mohamed Salah scored after a nice pass from Darwin Nunez to leave the game all square! In the end, Arsenal will be disappointed with this result! The Gunners stay third in the table and they go to Preston tomorrow followed by Newcastle on Saturday! As for Liverpool, they’ll be satisfied with a point from this game! The Reds drop to second in the league however, and they play Brighton twice in the next four days (away in the Cup, at home in the League)!

Brighton 2-2 Wolves

Credit: Sky Sports

Two late goals could prove crucial for Wolverhampton Wanderers as Brighton and Hove Albion left 2 points laying! Tommy Doyle had a really good opportunity which he poorly blazed high and wide before a poor clearance from Jose Sa allowed Danny Welbeck to put Brighton in front right on Halftime! In the 85th minute, it looked to be all over as Evan Ferguson finished really well to make it 2-0 to the hosts! However, in the 88th minute, it was 2-1 as Rayan Ait Nouri fired the ball home before, in the 93rd minute, a terribly executed 4-on-1 attack led to Matheus Cunha scoring to secure a dramatic point for Wolves! In the end, Brighton and Hove Albion only have themselves to blame here! The Seagulls drop to 6th in the league and they take on Liverpool twice in the next few days! As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, this could prove absolutely massive for them! Wolves are now 19th in the table and they host Crystal Palace in what is a huge game next time out!

Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle

Credit: Evening Standard

After just 4 minutes, Chelsea thought they had the lead through Cole Palmer, but his goal was ruled out for offside! However, in the 18th minute, Chelsea did have the lead as Nicolas Jackson finished off what was a terrific team goal! Cole Palmer’s pass was insane, and Pedro Neto did brilliantly to find Jackson! In the 32nd minute, it was 1-1 as Alexander Isak tapped home from close range! However, just 2 minutes into the Second Half and Chelsea were back in front as Cole Palmer scored from long range! For me, Nick Pope should’ve done so much better here! Pedro Neto was then unlucky as he struck the post before Isak had a great chance which he made a mess of! I can’t understand why Isak didn’t pass to Joelinton here! Chelsea were then awarded a penalty in additional time at the end of the game, but it was rightly overturned by VAR! Overall, this is a positive result for Chelsea! The Blues rise to 5th in the league and they play Newcastle again tomorrow followed by a massive game against Manchester United on Sunday! As for Newcastle United, they’re struggling right now! The Magpies drop to 12th in the table and they face a big home week against both Chelsea (in the Cup) and Arsenal (in the League)!

West Ham 2-1 Manchester United

Credit: Sky Sports

Alejandro Garnacho came close to giving Manchester United the lead as he smashed the crossbar before Bruno Fernandes had a good chance which he headed well over the bar! Diogo Dalot then missed an absolute sitter before Lukasz Fabianski nearly scored an own goal! In the 74th minute, it was West Ham who took the lead as Crysencio Summerville slid in to put the ball into the back of the net! Just 7 minutes later though and it was 1-1 as Casemiro headed home from close range! In additional time, West Ham were awarded a contentious penalty after a coming together between Danny Ings and Matthijs de Ligt, and it was Jarrod Bowen who stepped up and scored to secure a massive 3 points for the hosts! In the end, this is a big win for West Ham United! The Hammers rise to 13th in the league and they go to Nottingham Forest next time out! As for Manchester United, this was ultimately the result that was enough for Erik ten Hag to go! United drop to 14th in the table and they play Leicester tomorrow followed by a massive Super Sunday clash with Chelsea!

Aston Villa 1-1 Bournemouth

Credit: Sky Sports

Mark Travers made a great save to deny Amadou Onana before John McGinn thought he’d given Aston Villa the lead, but the goal was rightly ruled out for the ball already being out of play! In the Second Half, Travers made a couple more good saves to keep the game at 0-0 before Jhon Duran had a great chance which he failed to hit the target with! Finally, in the 76th minute, Aston Villa had the lead as Ross Barkley scored what was a really scrappy goal! However, in the 96th minute, Evanilson headed the ball into the back of the Villa net to nick a point for Bournemouth! In the end, this is a really disappointing result for Aston Villa! Villa stay 4th in the league and they host Crystal Palace in the Cup tonight followed by a massive away game at Tottenham on Sunday! As for AFC Bournemouth, this is a great point for them! The Cherries are now 11th in the table and they host Manchester City next time out!

Everton 1-1 Fulham

Credit: Eurosport

Fulham had two great chances in quick succession, but they were unable to find the back of the net as Adama Traore was denied by Jordan Pickford before Emile Smith Rowe smashed the ball over the bar! Idrissa Gana Gueye then smashed the bar for Everton before Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored, but his goal was rightly ruled out for offside! Dwight McNeil then had a good opportunity which he headed straight at Bernd Leno before Alex Iwobi had a good opportunity which he poorly blazed over! However, in the 61st minute, Alex Iwobi did manage to find the back of the net superbly well to fire Fulham 1-0 in front! But then, in the 94th minute, Beto headed home from close range to rescue a point for Everton! In the end, this is a big point for Everton! The Toffees stay 16th in the table and their next game is a big one away at Southampton! As for Fulham, they’ll be kicking themselves once again! The Cottagers are now 10th in the league and they host Brentford next time out!

Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

Credit: Sky Sports

Crystal Palace managed to stun London Rivals Tottenham Hotspur to pick up their first victory of the season! In the 31st minute, Crystal Palace had the lead as Jean-Philippe Mateta scored after a stupid piece of play by Tottenham! Tottenham then hit the post following a deflection before Dean Henderson pulled out a great save to deny James Maddison! In the Second Half, it was Palace who had the good chances, but they weren’t able to get the ball past Guglielmo Vicario. Overall, this is a massive 3 points for Crystal Palace! The Eagles are now outside of the Relegation Zone (in 17th) and they go to Aston Villa tomorrow followed by a massive league game away at Wolves! As for Tottenham Hotspur, it’s insane how inconsistent they are! Spurs drop to 8th in the league and they have a big home week against both Manchester City and Aston Villa!

Manchester City 1-0 Southampton

Credit: Bitter and Blue

It only took Manchester City 5 minutes to take the lead as Erling Haaland finished well! Cameron Archer then came close for Southampton as his effort struck the crossbar before Erling Haaland came close to giving Man City a second! Haaland then had a golden chance to make it 2-0 which he somehow put wide before he had another chance which he missed! In the end, it’s a win for Manchester City, but they should’ve scored a lot more! City are now top of the league and they take on Spurs in the Carabao Cup tomorrow before an away game at Bournemouth on the weekend! As for Southampton, I guess this isn’t a bad result for them?! The Saints are now bottom of the league however, and they take on Stoke tonight before Everton this Saturday!
