2024/25 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 7

Brentford 5-3 Wolves

Credit: Brentford FC

An 8-goal thriller saw Brentford hand Wolverhampton Wanderers yet another defeat! Once again, Brentford had the lead inside 90 seconds as Nathan Collins scored against his old club! Just 2 minutes later though and it was 1-1 as Matheus Cunha found the back of the net. Brentford were then awarded a penalty after Mario Lemina fouled Nathan Collins, and it was Bryan Mbeumo who stepped up and scored to make it 2-1! Wolves were then level in the 26th minute as Jorgen Strand Larsen finished well, but it didn’t last long as Christian Norgaard scored just 2 minutes later to make it 3-2 to the hosts! Ethan Pinnock then made it 4-2 right in additional time at the end of the First Half before Sam Johnstone made a good save to deny Kevin Schade. In the 90th minute, Brentford had their 5th through Fabio Carvalho before Rayan Ait Nouri made it 5-3 a few minutes later. Overall, this is a positive win for Brentford, even if they weren’t great defensively. The Bees find themselves 11th in the table and they go to Manchester United next time out! As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, they’re a bit of a mess right now! Wolves remain bottom of the league and they host Manchester City following the International Break!

West Ham 4-1 Ipswich

After Kalvin Phillips lost the ball cheaply, West Ham had the lead inside 50 seconds through Michail Antonio. 5 minutes later though and it was 1-1 as Liam Delap finished well for Ipswich! Jacob Greaves then had a great chance to put Ipswich in front which he could only head wide before Mohammed Kudus hit the post! However, in the 43rd minute, Kudus was able to find the back of the net as he headed home on the rebound (after Antonio initially hit the crossbar). 4 minutes into the Second Half and it was 3-1 through Jarrod Bowen before Arijanet Muric pulled out a great save to deny Mohammed Kudus a second! Alphonse Areola then pulled out a great save to deny Liam Delap a second of his own before Lucas Paqueta secured the win for the hosts with a goal in the 69th! Overall, this is much better from West Ham United! The Hammers rise to 12th in the league and they go to Tottenham when the Premier League returns! As for Ipswich Town, they were pretty bad here! The Tractor Boys drop to 17th in the table and they host Everton in a huge game next time out!

Brighton 3-2 Tottenham

Credit: Evening Standard

Despite being 2-0 down at Halftime, it was Brighton and Hove Albion that came away with all 3 points! After 23 minutes, it was Tottenham who took the lead as Brennan Johnson scored yet another goal! Danny Welbeck then had a great chance which he failed to get a good connection on before James Maddison scored to make it 2-0 to Spurs after 37! Bart Verbruggen really should’ve saved this! 3 minutes into the Second Half and a mistake by Destiny Udogie allowed Yankuba Minteh to get one back for Brighton before Georginio Rutter made it 2-2 just 10 minutes later! And then, in the 66th minute, Danny Welbeck headed home from close range to secure a famous Brighton turnaround! Overall, this is a heck of a win for Brighton and Hove Albion! The Seagulls sore to 6th in the league and their next game is a big test away at Newcastle! As for Tottenham Hotspur, this is a disaster for them! Spurs drop to 9th in the table and they host West Ham next time out!

Manchester City 3-2 Fulham

Credit: BBC

Manchester City came from behind to edge out Fulham at the Etihad! Ederson made a good save to keep Adama Traore out, but it was Fulham who took the lead after 26 minutes through Andreas Pereira! Raul Jimenez’s pass here was absolutely sublime! Adama Traore then had a golden chance to make it 2-0 which he poorly put over the bar before Manchester City were level in the 32nd minute through Mateo Kovacic. 2 minutes into the Second Half and Man City finally had the lead as Kovacic scored again! Traore then had another good chance to score which he once again failed to convert before City had their third as Jeremy Doku smashed the ball into the back of the net! However, Fulham weren’t done yet as Rodrigo Muniz found the back of the net, but it didn’t ultimately result to anything. Overall, this is a good win for Manchester City because they really had to fight for it! City remain second in the league and they go to Wolves following the International Break! As for Fulham, they probably should’ve got something from this game! The Cottagers drop to 8th in the table and they host Aston Villa next time out!

Arsenal 3-1 Southampton

Credit: Evening Standard

After nothing happened in the First Half, Mateus Fernandes had a good chance for Southampton which he put over the bar before Southampton did have the lead in the 55th minute through Cameron Archer! Just 3 minutes later though and Arsenal were level as Kai Havertz scored after the visitors gave the ball away far too cheaply! In the 68th minute, Arsenal had the lead as Gabriel Martinelli scored after a terrific ball in from Bukayo Saka before Southampton hit the woodwork not once, but twice! And then, in the 88th minute, more defensive mistakes from Southampton allowed Bukayo Saka to finish the game off at 3-1! Overall, it’s a win for Arsenal, but they had to fight for it! The Gunners stay third in the league and they go to Bournemouth next time out! As for Southampton, they shot themselves in the foot here! The Saints remain inside the Relegation Zone (in 19th) and their next game is a massive one at home to Leicester!

Chelsea 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Credit: Opta Analyst

After not much action in the First Half, it was Nottingham Forest who took the lead 4 minutes into the Second Half through Chris Wood! However, just 8 minutes later and it was 1-1 as Noni Madueke scored with a nice finish! James-Ward Prowse was then sent off for a second Yellow card before Matz Sels made a nice double save to deny Cole Palmer! Neco Williams then had a chance to score which was saved brilliantly by Robert Sanchez before Sels made another great save, this time to keep out Christopher Nkunku! Jota Silva then thought he’d won it at the death for Forest, but Sanchez was able to pull off another super stop! In the end, this is a disappointing result for Chelsea! The Blues stay 4th in the league and their next game is a massive one away at Liverpool! As for Nottingham Forest, they could’ve won this! Forest stay 10th in the table and they host Crystal Palace next time out!

Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool

Credit: Eurosport

Liverpool did just enough to pick up another win heading into the International Break! Eddie Nketiah put the ball into the back of the net inside 30 seconds, but his goal was ruled out for a clear offside! After 9 minutes, it was Liverpool who had the lead as Diogo Jota finished off a really nice team goal! Ismaila Sarr then saw his effort saved by Alisson right before Halftime before Diogo Jota had a good chance which he poorly headed wide. Alisson then made another couple of saves to keep it at 1-0, and that was all she wrote! In the end, it’s another defeat for Crystal Palace! The Eagles stay inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th) and they go to Nottingham Forest next time out! As for Liverpool, this is a positive win for them! The Reds remain top of the league and they host Chelsea in a massive game after the International Break!

Leicester 1-0 Bournemouth

After 16 minutes, it was Leicester who had the lead as Facundo Buonanotte scored a really nice solo goal! Jamie Vardy then had a great chance to make it 2-0 which he made an absolute mess of before Illia Zabarnyi hit the post for Bournemouth! Mads Hermansen then made a decent save to deny Ryan Christie before Bournemouth thought they’d equalised through Lewis Cook. However, the goal was ruled out for an offside during the build-up, and I have very mixed feelings about this! Dango Ouattara then had a golden chance to equalise for the visitors, but he could only head the ball onto the crossbar! Overall, this is a big win for Leicester City! The Foxes rise to 15th in the table and their next game is a big one away at Southampton. As for AFC Bournemouth, I don’t know how they’ve managed to lose this game! The Cherries drop to 13th in the league and they host Arsenal next time out!

Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester United

Credit: Sky Sports

Morgan Rogers had a good opportunity to score which he failed to hit the target with before Marcus Rashford saw his effort saved by Emiliano Martinez. Speaking of Rashford, he really should’ve been sent off for a second Yellow card, I don’t get what the referee was doing here?! Bruno Fernandes then hit the bar from a free kick before Diogo Dalot pulled out a big block to deny Jaden Philogene-Bidace. In the end, this is actually a disappointing result for Aston Villa! Villa remain 5th in the league and they go to Fulham after the International Break! As for Manchester United, it’s another game without a win for them! United drop to 14th in the table and they host Brentford next time out!

Everton 0-0 Newcastle

Credit: BBC

Iliman Ndiaye pulled out a great goal-line clearance to keep Newcastle off the scoresheet before Abdoulaye Doucoure thought he’d headed Everton in front, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside! After James Tarkowski decided to bring down Sandro Tonali for literally no reason, Anthony Gordon stepped up to take the penalty for Newcastle, but he was denied well by Jordan Pickford! In the Second Half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a good chance which was saved by Nick Pope before Anthony Gordon had another good chance which he blasted well over! In the end, Everton will be happy with a point from this one! The Toffees stay 16th in the table and their next game is a big one away at Ipswich! As for Newcastle United, they dropped 2 points here! The Magpies remain 7th in the league and they host Brighton next time out!
