2024/25 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 5

Aston Villa 3-1 Wolves

Another Second Half comeback resulted in Aston Villa winning and Wolverhampton Wanderers losing! Mario Lemina had a really good opportunity which he headed straight at Emiliano Martinez before a terrible pass from Diego Carlos resulted in Matheus Cunha finishing well to make it 1-0 to Wolves! Rayan Ait Nouri then came close to making it 2-0 to the visitors before Yerson Mosquera pulled out some good defending to keep Ollie Watkins’ effort from going in. Finally, in the 73rd minute, Aston Villa had their equaliser as Ollie Watkins scored after his shot looped off Craig Dawson. In the 88th minute, Villa had the lead as Ezri Konsa scored after a terrific ball in from Youri Tielemans before Jhon Duran finished the game off in the 94th! Overall, it’s a good win for Aston Villa in the end! Villa rise to third in the league and they go to Wycombe tomorrow followed by Ipswich on Sunday. As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s another game they’ve let slip! Wolves are now bottom of the league and they host Liverpool next time out!

Tottenham 3-1 Brentford

After less than a minute, Brentford had the lead as Bryan Mbeumo scored with a great volleyed finish! Just 7 minutes later though and Tottenham were level as Dominic Solanke scored his first goal for the club after a terrible pass from Ethan Pinnock! In the 28th minute, Tottenham were in front as Brennan Johnson scored with a really nice finish! Guglielmo Vicario then got away with one after messing around at the back before Mark Flekken made a good save to keep Dejan Kulusevski out. We then got an appalling refereeing decision as Vicario clearly handballed it outside his own box, but somehow none of the ref’s spotted it! My oh my! Guglielmo Vicario then made a great save to deny Kevin Schade from equalising before Tottenham finally had the win secured through a nice James Maddison finish! Overall, this is an important win for Tottenham Hotspur! Spurs rise to 10th in the league and they play Qarabag on Thursday followed by a big weekend clash against Manchester United! As for Brentford, they’ll feel very hard-done by here! The Bees drop to 12th in the table and they host West Ham next time out!

Fulham 3-1 Newcastle

Fulham pulled out a great performance to stun Newcastle United! After just 5 minutes, Fulham found themselves in front through a great finish from Raul Jimenez! Emile Smith Rowe then came close as he struck the crossbar before Smith Rowe had his goal to make it 2-0 to Fulham after just 22 minutes! I don’t understand what Nick Pope was doing here! Just 28 seconds into the Second Half though and it was 2-1 as Harvey Barnes got Newcastle back into the game! Alex Iwobi then had a great chance which he struck straight at Nick Pope before Fabian Schar missed an unbelievable chance to equalise. I have no idea what anyone was doing here, from either team! And then, in the 92nd minute, after a terrible pass from Bruno Guimaraes, Reiss Nelson finished well to secure all 3 points for the hosts! Overall, what a great win for Fulham! The Cottagers rise to 9th in the table and they go to Nottingham Forest next time out! As for Newcastle United, this was a terrible performance by them! The Magpies drop to 6th in the league and they go to Wimbledon tomorrow followed by a massive home game against Manchester City!

Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal

It was a pretty hectic and quite frankly tiring Football match, both Manchester City and Arsenal came away with a share of the points! After a brilliant turn from Savinho, Manchester City had the lead after just 9 minutes through Erling Haaland! This is a great all-round goal! Ilkay Gundogan then struck the post from a free-kick before Arsenal were level in the 22nd minute through a terrific strike from Riccardo Calafiori. Whilst the referee didn’t do a great job here, the finish from Calafiori was superb! Gabriel then had a golden opportunity which he somehow headed over, but he wouldn’t make the same mistake again as he headed home to give Arsenal the lead heading into the break! This is terrific from Gabriel, but Kyle Walker’s attempt to stop him was absolutely horrendous! However, in the 8th minute of additional time, Leandro Trossard got himself sent off for kicking the ball away! Deary me! The Second Half then saw Arsenal put everyone behind the ball with Man City just shooting from outside the box, with their best chances falling to Josko Gvardiol (which David Raya dealt with well). However, in the 98th minute, John Stones guided the ball home to give City a big lifeline! In the end, this game was madness, but Manchester City will be glad to have gotten out of it with a point! City remain top of the league and they host Watford tomorrow followed by an away trip to Newcastle on Saturday. As for Arsenal, they’ll be gutted to have conceded so late on! The Gunners drop to 4th in the table and they host Bolton and Leicester in the upcoming week.

Brighton 2-2 Nottingham Forest

After Carlos Baleba took out Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood stepped up and scored from 12 yards to give Nottingham Forest the lead inside 13 minutes! In the 42nd minute, Brighton were level as Jack Hinshelwood headed home superbly well after a great ball in from Jan Paul van Hecke. Just 3 minutes later and Brighton had the lead as Danny Welbeck scored with a terrific free kick effort! In the Second Half, Matz Sels made a really important save to deny Welbeck a second before Nottingham Forest were level in the 70th minute through Ramon Sosa! This was far too easy for Forest! Tensions then got pretty high as after Morgan Gibbs-White was given a second Yellow card, both managers were also sent off! In the end, it’s another frustrating home result for Brighton and Hove Albion! The Seagulls drop to 7th in the league and their next game is a big one away at Chelsea! As for Nottingham Forest, their unbeaten start to the season continues! Forest are now 8th in the table and they host Fulham next time out!

West Ham 0-3 Chelsea

After West Ham had a chance which they didn’t take, Chelsea went up the other end and scored through Nicolas Jackson! Alphonse Areola should’ve done so much better here! Cole Palmer then came within a whisker of doubling Chelsea’s lead before the visitors did have their second in the 18th minute as Nicolas Jackson scored again! Mohamed Kudus then had a goal ruled out for offside before, just 70 seconds into the Second Half, Chelsea had their third through Cole Palmer! Alphonse Areola did manage to pull out a great save to deny Christopher Nkunku, but that’s the only positive of West Ham’s day. In the end, it’s a terrible performance from West Ham United! The Hammers are now 14th in the table and they take on Liverpool in the Cup midweek before they go to Brentford on the weekend. As for Chelsea, this is a great win for them! The Blues rise to 5th in the league and they take on both Barrow and Brighton in the next 5 days!

Liverpool 3-0 Bournemouth

After just 4 minutes, Bournemouth thought they had the lead through Antoine Semenyo. However, Semenyo’s goal was ruled out for offside! After Kepa denied Luis Diaz on a couple of occasions, a mistake by the Bournemouth Keeper led to Diaz giving Liverpool the lead after 26 minutes! Just 2 minutes later and it was 2-0 as Luis Diaz scored again! In the 37th minute, the game was virtually over as Darwin Nunez scored with a cracking finish! In the Second Half, Bournemouth came close on a couple of occasions, but Caoimhin Kelleher did a great job to keep them out! Overall, this is more like it from Liverpool! The Reds move back to second in the league and they host West Ham in the Cup on Wednesday followed by an away trip to Wolves on Saturday! As for AFC Bournemouth, it just wasn’t their day. The Cherries are now 13th in the table and they host Southampton next time out!

Southampton 1-1 Ipswich

A late, late goal was enough for Ipswich Town to nick a point away at Southampton! After just 5 minutes, Southampton took the lead as young Tyler Dibling scored his first ever goal for the club! Cameron Archer then hit the post for Southampton before Aaron Ramsdale made a good save to deny Omari Hutchinson. Cameron Archer then had another good chance which was saved by Arijanet Muric before Ramsdale made another good save, this time to deny George Hirst. However, in the 95th minute, Ipswich had their equaliser as Sam Morsy’s deflected effort flew into the back of the net! In the end, this is a gutting draw for Southampton. The Saints remain inside the Relegation Zone (in 18th) and they go to Bournemouth next time out! As for Ipswich Town, they will very much take this point! The Tractor Boys stay 17th in the table and their next game sees them play host to Aston Villa!

Leicester 1-1 Everton

Jesper Lindstrom had a great opportunity to put Everton in front which he poorly put wide before Everton did have the lead inside 12 minutes through Iliman Ndiaye. The crazy weather then led to Jordan Pickford nearly putting the ball into his own net (he actually did quite well) before Mads Hermansen made a decent save to deny Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Memeh Caleb Okoli then had a really good opportunity to equalise which he headed over, but in the 73rd minute, Leicester had their leveller as Stephy Mavididi managed to bundle the ball over the line! In the end, it’s not a disastrous point for Leicester City. The Foxes stay 15th in the table and they have away dates at Walsall and Arsenal this week! As for Everton, they’ll definetly be slightly disappointed that they weren’t able to hold onto their lead. The Toffees remain inside the Relegation Zone (but up to 19th) and they host Crystal Palace next time out!

Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester United

Alejandro Garnacho had a great chance which was saved by Dean Henderson before Henderson made another good save, this time to deny Matthijs de Ligt. Manchester United definetly should’ve scored from one of these chances! Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes then managed to both hit the crossbar within 3 seconds of each other before Eberechi Eze had a good chance which he struck straight at Andre Onana. In the Second Half, Onana pulled out an amazing double save to keep Crystal Palace out before Eberechi Eze had a golden opportunity to score, but he somehow guided it wide of the post! In the end, Crystal Palace will be disappointed that they didn’t win this game. The Eagles remain 16th in the table and their next game is a big one away at Everton! As for Manchester United, they didn’t do much after the First Half! United now find themselves in 11th place and they host both Twente and Tottenham later this week!
