2024/25 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 19

West Ham 0-5 Liverpool

Liverpool picked up another thumping win, this time away at West Ham United! Lucas Paqueta had a really good chance to give West Ham the lead which he made a mess of before Alphonse Areola somehow managed to keep Mohamed Salah’s effort out! In the 30th minute, Liverpool had the lead as Luis Diaz took advantage of a fortunate deflection to finish well! Mohammed Kudus was then very unlucky as his effort came back of the post before Liverpool were soon 2-0 up through Cody Gakpo! Just 4 minutes later and it was 3-0 as Mo Salah finally got on the scoresheet before Trent Alexander-Arnold made it 4-0 in the 54th (thanks to a deflection off Max Kilman)! And then, in the 84th minute, Diogo Jota scored to make it 5-0 for the visitors! In the end, what a terrible day for West Ham United! The Hammers stay 13th in the table and they go to Manchester City next time out! As for Liverpool, what a win for them! The Reds remain top of the league and their first game of 2025 sees them host Manchester United!

 


Brentford 1-3 Arsenal

The first Premier League game of 2025 saw Arsenal pick up all 3 points away at London Rivals Brentford! After just 13 minutes, Brentford had the lead through Bryan Mbeumo! David Raya then had to pull out a big save to clear the ball off the line before Arsenal went up the other end and levelled things up through Gabriel Jesus! Brentford really should’ve just cleared their lines here! Less than 5 minutes into the Second Half, and Arsenal were in front as Mikel Merino scored after some poor goalkeeping by Mark Flekken! Just 3 minutes later and it was 3-1 to the visitors as Gabriel Martinelli got onto the scoresheet! In the end, Brentford just weren’t good enough here! The Bees drop to 12th in the table and they head to Southampton next time out! As for Arsenal, this is a good win for them! The Gunners remain second in the league and their next game sees them head to Brighton!

 


Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth

A late goal earned AFC Bournemouth a valuable point away at Fulham! Bernd Leno made an important save to stop Antoine Semenyo from making it 1-0 before Fulham had the lead in the 40th minute through Raul Jimenez! This was a great header, but also poor defending! Just 6 minutes into the Second Half, though, and Bournemouth were level as Evanilson scored following a terrific pass from James Hill! Kepa Arrizabalaga then made an important save to deny Jimenez a second before Bernd Leno made a good save to keep Philip Billing’s effort out! In the 72nd minute, Fulham were back in front through Harry Wilson, but then, in the 89th minute, Dango Ouattara finished brilliantly to earn Bournemouth a late point! In the end, Fulham will be kicking themselves here! The Cottagers remain 8th in the table and they host Ipswich next time out! As for AFC Bournemouth, they’ll be pleased with this result! The Cherries drop to 7th in the table (however) and their first game of 2025 is at home to Everton!

 


Aston Villa 2-2 Brighton

After just 12 minutes, Brighton had the lead through Simon Adingra! This was such a well-taken goal! After Bart Verbruggen dropped the ball, Joao Pedro committed a foul which resulted in a penalty which Ollie Watkins scored from to make it 1-1 after 36! Just 2 minutes into the Second Half, and Aston Villa had the lead through Morgan Rogers! Rogers’ finish is great, he took his chance superbly, but once again, Verbruggen makes a mess of catching the ball! However, in the 81st minute, Brighton were back level through a strong strike from Tariq Lamptey! Ollie Watkins then had a good chance to win it for Villa, but he blasted his effort over! In the end, Aston Villa will be the ones disappointed with this result! Villa remain 9th in the league and they host Leicester next time out! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, it’s another game without a win for them! The Seagulls remain 10th in the table and their next game is a big one at home to Arsenal!

 


Tottenham 2-2 Wolves

After just 7 minutes, Wolves had the lead courtesy of a terrific strike from Hwang Hee-Chan! Just 5 minutes later, though, and Tottenham were level through a Rodrigo Bentancur header! Radu Dragusin then had a good opportunity which he headed just wide before Spurs were awarded a penalty after Brennan Johnson was brought down! Heung-Min Son stepped up, only to see his penalty saved by Jose Sa, but just 5 minutes later, and Spurs did find themselves in front thanks to Brennan Johnson! In the Second Half, Santiago Bueno did well to stop Dejan Kulusevski from scoring before Wolves found themselves back on level terms in the 87th minute through Jorgen Strand Larsen! In the end, it’s another disappointing result for Tottenham Hotspur! Spurs are now 11th in the league and their next game is a big one at home to Newcastle! As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s another positive point for them! Wolves remain 17th in the table and they host Nottingham Forest next time out!

 


Crystal Palace 2-1 Southampton

After just 14 minutes, Southampton had the lead thanks to a close-range finish from Tyler Dibling! After 31 minutes, it was 1-all as Trevoh Chalobah headed home after a weak bit of goalkeeping by Aaron Ramsdale! Ramsdale did then make up for it slightly with a good save to deny Ismaila Sarr before Diego Munoz had a great opportunity which he struck straight at the boot of Kyle Walker-Peters! In the 52nd minute, Crystal Palace finally had the lead as Eberechi Eze smashed the ball home! Overall, this was an important win for Crystal Palace! The Eagles rise to 15th in the table and their first game of the new year is at home to London Rivals Chelsea! As for Southampton, it’s another defeat for them! The Saints remain bottom of the league and they host Brentford next time out!

 


Ipswich 2-0 Chelsea

One final shock in 2024 saw Ipswich Town stun Chelsea at Portman Road! Ipswich were awarded a penalty after Filip Jorgensen caught Liam Delap, but honestly, I think this was too soft! Anyway, Delap stepped up and scored to fire Ipswich in front after just 12 minutes! Jorgensen then made a great save to deny Liam Delap a second before Cole Palmer struck the post with a great free-kick strike! Honestly, I cannot believe that Christopher Nkunku hasn’t finished off the rebound! Christian Walton then pulled off a great save to tip Cole Palmer’s effort onto the crossbar before a terrible pass from Axel Disasi led to Omari Hutchinson doubling the hosts’ lead! Overall, what a memorable night this was for Ipswich Town! The Tractor Boys rise to 18th in the table and they go to Fulham next time out! As for Chelsea, they’ve completely dropped off in the past week! The Blues drop to 4th in the league and they go to Crystal Palace for their first match of 2025!



Manchester United 0-2 Newcastle

After just 4 minutes, Newcastle had the lead as Alexander Isak headed home from close range! Isak then had another good chance to score which he made a bit of a mess of before Joelinton headed home to make it 2-0 after just 19 minutes! Sandro Tonali then had a golden chance to make it 3-0 which he could only strike the post with before Rasmus Hojlund had a great opportunity to score which he put just narrowly wide! Casemiro then had a great chance himself to get Manchester United back into the game, but he made an absolute mess of his attempt! Man United then had more great chances in the Second Half, but they just weren’t able to find the back of the net! In the end, it’s another defeat for Manchester United! United stay 14th in the table and their first game of 2025 is a big one away at Liverpool! As for Newcastle United, it’s 5-straight wins for them! The Magpies remain 5th in the league and they head to Tottenham next time out!

 


Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest

Iliman Ndiaye made a good solo run, only to mess up the finish before Nottingham Forest had the lead after just 15 minutes through Chris Wood! This is such a good goal! Ramon Sosa then had a good opportunity to make it 2-0 which he scuffed wide before Morgan Gibbs-White fired home to make it 2-0 to Forest after 61! Jordan Pickford then pulled off a nice triple save to keep the game at just 2-0 before Pickford pulled out another double save later on! In the end, Everton were poor here! The Toffees drop to 16th in the table and they go to Bournemouth next time out! As for Nottingham Forest, it’s another win for them! Forest rise to third in the league and they face Wolves on Monday Night Football!

 


Leicester 0-2 Manchester City

Manchester City picked up their first away win in over 2 months in a tightly-contest game against Leicester City! Jakub Stolarczyk made a good save to stop Erling Haaland from giving Manchester City the lead before Jamie Vardy had a good opportunity which was kept out by Stefan Ortega! In the 21st minute, Manchester City went in front as Savinho scored after Stolarczyk parried the ball into the Brazilian’s path! Erling Haaland then had a great solo run, but he could only drag his effort wide of the post before Facundo Buonanotte hit the post! In the Second Half, Manuel Akanji was in the right place to clear the ball off the line before Jamie Vardy had a golden opportunity which he somehow guided over! And then, in the 74th minute, City had their second as Haaland headed home superbly! In the end, Leicester City had more than enough chances to get a result from this game! The Foxes drop to 19th in the table and they go to Aston Villa next time out! As for Manchester City, they needed a result like this! City rise to 6th in the league and their first game of 2025 is a home one against West Ham!
