2024/25 Premier League Roundup: Gameweek 14

Southampton 1-5 Chelsea

Credit: Chelsea Football Club

It was another super display from Chelsea as they thumped 5 past Southampton! After just 7 minutes, Chelsea already had the lead as Axel Disasi headed home from about 2 yards out! This was so easy! Just 4 minutes later though, and Southampton were level as Joe Aribo scored after Enzo Fernandez lost the ball too easily! In the 17th minute, Chelsea were back in front as Christopher Nkunku scored from an open goal after a terrible error by Joe Lumley! This is just unbelievable! Lumley then made a good save to push Cole Palmer’s effort onto the post before the visitors had another goal, this time through Noni Madueke! Just 5 minutes later and things got worse for the hosts as Jack Stephens was sent off for pulling the hair of Marc Cucurella! I have no words! Chelsea then missed a couple of good chances to score before Cole Palmer made it 4-1 in the 76th minute, and then, in the 87th minute, Jadon Sancho made it 5! In the end, this was honestly pathetic from Southampton! The Saints remain bottom of the league and they go to Aston Villa next time out! As for Chelsea, it’s another great result for them! The Blues rise to second in the table and their next game is a big one away at Tottenham!

Newcastle 3-3 Liverpool

A late goal earned Newcastle United a point in a crazy game against Liverpool! Alexis Mac Allister was unlucky not to score as his effort struck the post before Jacob Murphy did the same for Newcastle! In the 35th minute, it was Newcastle who had the lead thanks to a thunderbolt from Alexander Isak! Just 5 minutes into the Second Half, though, and Liverpool were level through Curtis Jones! Darwin Nunez then had a golden chance to score which he somehow completely missed before the hosts were back in front in the 62nd minute through Anthony Gordon! I do feel like Caoimhin Kelleher should’ve done better here! In the 68th minute, it was 2-2 as Mohamed Salah found the back of the net before Salah scored again in the 83rd minute to completely turn the game on its head! But then, in the 90th minute, another mistake from Kelleher allowed Fabian Schar to score and gain a dramatic point for Newcastle! In the end, this is a decent point for Newcastle United! The Magpies remain 12th in the table and they go to Brentford next time out! As for Liverpool, they’ll be disappointed to have conceded so late on! The Reds remain top of the league and their next game is a big one away at Everton!

Everton 4-0 Wolves

Everton’s best result for a while saw them thump Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park! Jordan Pickford made a good save to push Matheus Cunha’s effort out before Everton already had the lead after just 10 minutes thanks to a great free kick by Ashley Young! James Tarkowski then thought he’d scored, but his goal was questionably ruled out for offside before Everton did have their second in the 33rd minute courtesy of Orel Mangala! Just 4 minutes into the Second Half, and it was 3-0 to the hosts as Craig Dawson scored an own goal before unbelievably, Dawson did it again to make it 4-0 to Everton! Overall, this is a terrific win for Everton! The Toffees remain 15th in the table and their next game is a big one at home to Liverpool tomorrow! As for Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s another shocking performance from them! Wolves remain inside the Relegation Zone (now in 19th) and they go to West Ham next time out!

Ruud Van Nistelrooy got off to the perfect start as Leicester City Manager with a 3-1 win over West Ham United! After less than 2 minutes, Leicester already had the lead as Jamie Vardy cooly slotted home! Danny Ings was then unlucky as his headed effort struck the post before it was then 2-0 to Leicester in the 61st minute through Bilal El Khannous! Conor Coady then did really well to clear the ball off the line before Bobby Reid had a goal ruled out for offside! However, in the 90th minute, it was 3-0 to the hosts as Patson Daka scored (after a shocking bit of defending by Max Kilman) before Niclas Fullkrug got one back for West Ham in the 93rd! Overall, this is a great start for Ruud as Leicester City's Boss! The Foxes remain 16th in the table and they host Brighton next time out! As for West Ham United, it’s another poor result for them! The Hammers stay 14th in the league and their next game is a big one at home to Wolves Monday Night!

Fulham 3-1 Brighton

After just 4 minutes, Fulham were ahead through Alex Iwobi after a shocking pass from Bart Verbruggen! What on earth was he doing?! Joao Pedro then had a couple of decent chances which he failed to take before Simon Adingra had a great chance which he shot straight at Bernd Leno! In the Second Half, Jan Paul van Hecke had a good chance which he failed to guide on target before Brighton were finally level in the 56th minute through Carlos Baleba! This was a really well-drilled strike! In the 79th minute, Fulham were back in front thanks to a Matthew O’Riley own goal before Alex Iwobi finished the game off in the 87th minute with a great curling effort! Overall, this is a really positive result for Fulham! The Cottagers rise to 6th in the table and their next game is a big one at home to Arsenal! As for Brighton and Hove Albion, they missed so many chances here! The Seagulls drop to 5th in the league and they go to Leicester next time out!

Aston Villa 3-1 Brentford

After 21 minutes, Aston Villa had the lead as Morgan Rogers finished well! Less than 7 minutes later, and it was 2-0 to Villa as Ollie Watkins scored from the penalty spot before Matty Cash made it 3-0 after just 34 minutes! 9 minutes into the Second Half, and Brentford had one back through Mikkel Damsgaard before Mark Flekken made a couple of decent saves to keep Villa from scoring more! Overall, this is more like it from Aston Villa! Villa rise to 8th in the league and they host Southampton next time out! As for Brentford, it’s another away loss for them! The Bees drop to 11th in the table and they take on Newcastle tomorrow!

Manchester City 3-0 Nottingham Forest

For the first time in a while, Manchester City tasted victory in a comfortable outing against Nottingham Forest! Matz Sels made a good save to deny Erling Haaland early on before Manchester City had the lead after just 8 minutes through Bernardo Silva! Josko Gvardiol then had a couple of great opportunities to score which he failed to hit the target with (on both occasions) before Chris Wood was handed a golden opportunity which he poorly put wide! Just a couple of minutes later, and Man City punished them as Kevin De Bruyne smashed the ball into the back of the Forest net! And then, in the 57th minute, Jeremy Doku scored well to secure all 3 points for City! Overall, it’s been a while for Manchester City so they’ll be really pleased with this City! City rise to 4th in the league and they go to Crystal Palace next time out! As for Nottingham Forest, they were just brushed aside here! Forest drop to 7th in the table and they go to Manchester United tomorrow night!

Arsenal 2-0 Manchester United

Ruben Amorim suffered his first loss as Manchester United Manager as Arsenal’s good run of form continued! Thomas Partey had an amazing chance to give Arsenal the lead which he somehow failed to do before Gabriel Martinelli had a good chance which he also missed the target with! Diogo Dalot then came closer to giving Man United the lead as his effort fired just wide before finally, in the 54th minute, Arsenal had the lead through Jurrien Timber! David Raya then did well to push Matthijs de Ligt’s effort out before William Saliba made it 2-0 despite knowing nothing about it! Overall, it’s another game where Arsenal win after scoring from a corner! The Gunners drop to third in the league however, and they go to Fulham next time out! As for Manchester United, they’ll be disappointed with the goals they conceded here! United drop to 13th in the table and they take on Nottingham Forest on tomorrow’s Saturday Night Football!

Ipswich 0-1 Crystal Palace

1 goal was all that was needed for Crystal Palace to take a massive 3 points off Ipswich Town! Eberechi Eze had a good chance for Crystal Palace which he hit straight at Arijanet Muric before Dean Henderson made a good save himself to keep it at 0-0! In the 59th minute, Crystal Palace had the lead as Jean-Philippe Mateta finished brilliantly! Liam Delap then had a good chance to equalise for Ipswich which he failed to convert with before Jacob Greaves hit the post! In the end, it’s yet another defeat for Ipswich Town! AFC Bournemouth’s great season continued as they edged out Tottenham Hotspur at the Vitality! Dominic Solanke had a good opportunity to score against his former club which he blasted over the bar before Bournemouth had the lead in the 17th minute through Dean Huijsen! This was a nice goal from the hosts' point of view! Fraser Forster then made a good save to deny Marcus Tavernier from making it 2-0 before Kepa Arrizabalaga did well to parry Pedro Porro’s effort out! Ryan Christie was then unlucky as he struck the post before Evanilson scored, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside! Overall, it’s another great home win for AFC Bournemouth!
